I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel and facilities. Decent size rooms and bathroom, a couple of English channels on the TV for news and HBO, good wifi, a couple of bottles of water each day for brushing your teeth. Good selection at breakfast, with good staff restocking and cleaning tables so war fast and efficient with Chinese and western food available. Location is out of the centre but metro is really close and gets you into the centre in no time, really easy to use and cheap. Also a goo... Read more

Quite disappointed during my stay, the hotel is very noisy, as well as inside or outside, there is no phonic insulation at all. A very bad smell push me to ask for an other room but the next one was worse, still the same bad smell. Mattress are too hard and sheets not warm enough and no way to heat the room, only cool down. the hotel is quite close to subway station ,this is convenient. Check if there is any event at the stadium otherwise you never could get a taxi around during the event. Fit... Read more

We were very surprised with the overall quality of this hotel, since previously hearing that hotels generally in China were lower in standard to European, this is not the case. This hotel was part of a stadium but was not used during our stay so cannot comment on active stadium days. Room a bit tired I.E. carpet needed cleaning or replacing otherwise clean, but reception and breakfast was superb. Recommend using the local shop (Family Mart) for drinks as the bar/reception in the hotel VERY expen... Read more

The hotel is in a very convenient location and has many shops nearby. The downstairs bar, restaurant and reception area is very big and beautifully appointed. However when you go to the rooms they certainly need some attention. We were a group of 7 rooms and some had some very bad smells and it took a couple of moves to get a good room. Unfortunately many rooms smelt of cigarette smoke and the carpets are stained. The beds were firm but comfortable and the sheets, pillows and duvet were very sof... Read more

I stayed in the 8th floor in a Superior room. The room was clean but not too big. The matress was quite hard, but ok. The interior was use, the carpet not clean. Reading the other comments it seems that the rooms at the execetive floor are nicer. But I think there should be also godd quality businees rooms at the lower level. Breakfast buffet provided everything needed: Chinese as well as European food, fresh made omlettes and so on. Thumbs up for the breakfast!

The room was good but the air and the smell was not very pleasant. Almost impossible to open windows. The beds were OK and the breakfast was also ok. The hotel felt pretty worn-out and needs to be refreshed.

Very pleasant large 8th floor room with large sofa and good sized bathroom. Dreadful music in the lobby bar! Good gym and spa (reasonably priced treatments) small but adequate pool in basement. Hotel built into 80,000 seater stadium complex. No events on during my stay so can't comment on how busy and noisy it might get! Suspect very! Not all that central, but metro close by and easy for taxis to find. Free wifi throughout hotel and decent enough breakfast buffet.

Just had seven nights at the Regal East Asia in Shanghai before landing in Dubai. The hotel is good, we had a club room so were entitled to use the club room facilities and also take a buffet or continental breakfast. We took the buffet and it was ok, hot and cold selections and some cooked to order. Plenty of choice so not bad. The room was good, spacious and modern with decent facilities. Location is ok and about 5 mins to the Metro so really handy. However, the immediate vicinity does NOT ha... Read more

We stayed in the hotel for 4 nights. The location is convenience so far, easy to get transport, around 10 to 15mins walking distance from the hotel to metro, there were some street food sometimes too. Upon our check in , it was pretty disappointed as it was very slow. We did have some complain about the speed of check in. There was a manager to ask us if anything he can help us. So then, we checked in but gave us a wrong room. We requested a smoking room, they send us to a non smoking floor unfo... Read more

Not what I expected, but in a good way. On the map this hotel looks miles away from anything of interest, not true :-) we walked to the next corner and found a little mall, then walked on about 10-15min up the street and found a great mall with a Uniqlo! I think the location probably helped our getting around for our day trips too, avoiding CBD traffic. The bed was hard but comfortable. Get used to a very hard bed in China, it's how they are, Mum loved it and wants to import one! The brea... Read more

we arrived very end of November before moving onto Vietnam. The hotel was large, but not noisy, tastefully decorated and provided a good menu. Facilities fine, and room was a reasonable size. Breakfast was included with a very good choice of healthy dishes within a spacious light dining room. The lifts were amazing, just loved the music and lights- very calming, and dare I say it- 'up lifting.' Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. We only had two nights in the hotel, but the service was excellent. The concierge sorted driver for us, assisted with lost baggage and spoke good English. The lobby bar was ok, it a little pricy, but for a few drinks worth it. 12 exec facilities on the 12th floor overlooked the stadium pitch, the hotel being an integral part of the stadium structure

Stayed there for a week. It's an excellent hotel with good location, well kept spacious rooms, proximity to metro stations make it a right choice. Service is pleasantly above average. Has good facility for large gathering / conferences. You get to start the day with an elaborate breakfast. The negative point here is the limitation of TV channels in English. The staff has been courteous.

As there were several stadiums in nearby area and my son is a fond of sports I preferred to stay here . We really enjoyed the stay, specially the activities early in the morning and late nights also. Young kids and elders start practicing Kungfu, Judo, Yoga and running as early as 5 AM and as late as 9 PM . There is swimming pool and Gymnasium at nearby building and no one told us that we have right to use . Staff at reception is poor in English but overall it is value for money hotel. My son a... The hotel is situated in the Shanghai Stadium and is therefore particularly ideal for those like us attending an event at the stadium. It is also close to the metro station for going elsewhere. That said, however, the stadium is not located in the most vibrant area apart from life in a moderate-sized shopping mall opposite, and it takes a station ride to Xujiahui which is the centre of all shopping and entertaining activities in this part of Shanghai. The hotel itself is reasonably well appoin... Read more

This is China so expectations on cleanliness need to be adjusted lower. Less than spotless cleaning in the bathroom and on towels/ manchester. Toiletries do not get replenished (without being asked) on all 4 nights I stayed. Breakfast average quality although decent range. But the hotel's worst sin when you're here on business trip? Poor poor internet connection! Can't even google simple queries like directions/ landmarks; pretty much all, almost All websites can't be reached due to timeout. ... Read more

Stayed here as first stop on Wendy Wu tour. First impressions were a strange setting for hotel but looks deceiving. Our bedroom looked inwards to well of steps to enter stadium but as we only slept in bedroom it did not matter. Room slightly tired. That said the rest of the hotel was excellent with first class staff who assisted when required. Good choice of food in restaurant.

Stayed here for 4 nights in early September. The hotel itself is very modern. The smell as soon as you walk in is refreshing unlike other hotels in China which stink of smoke. The staff were very friendly and most spoke great english. They were happy to assist me with things such as writing the names of places in chinese in order for me to get around easily in Taxis. We loved this hotel, it was spotless, the beds were really comfortable and the room was huge and well equipped. We had no internet issues and would recommend it highly. The breakfast was amazing catering for both Western and Chinese tastes. Even at 6.30 am when we ate on our last day the service was great and the choices immense....Highly recommended....especially the soft beds.

Lovely hotel, close to subway for convenience, novel to stay in a stadium, shame you couldn't actually see inside the stadium. Be warned, no view from most of the windows as they have a BMW advertising film covering the entire front of the building, makes the room feel like it's permanently shaded. Nice pool to have relaxing swim in. Booked double room but got a twin and beds very hard. Overall a good stay.

I booked this hotel for a business trip due to its location and was very pleasantly surprised. Inside you do not really notice that you are actually staying in a sports stadium. I did feel very comfortable though: friendly, unobtrusive, English-speaking staff, large rooms with all amenities, no issues with wi-fi, very good breakfast with a wide selection of continental as well as Chinese options, reasonable fitness area, close proximity to Shanghai underground. There was a lovely touch of additional items in the bathroom. Combs, toothbrush and toothpaste with kettle and refreshments. There's a safe in the room, which is free. I have stayed in many hotels in China over the last 18 years and The Regal Shanghai East Asia ranks in the top two, and deserves an EXCELLENT rating. The hotel and my room was very clean and the housekeeping and were like all of the staff, very professional. The Metro which gives one access to all of Shanghai easily was a 5 minute walk away. I have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel.

A beautiful hotel within the stadium, it was holiday week while we were there and a concert was on every night, but at 10.30pm it ended and it all went quiet so it did not disturb us at all. Very close to the Metro which is so easy to get around on, everything is in English so no need to worry. There are many shops, cafe's etc around and a big supermarket, go left has you come out of the hotel.

Our reason to visit China was Football stadiums. This fine hotel actually looks over the Stadium and we requested that on the initial booking. Good staff relations and a very good room and great breakfast too. Close by there are many shops and restaurants close by and we decided to visit the BUND which is by the river and well worth a visit.
