I first reviewed a stay at this hotel last year, and gave it a 5 rating as a top hotel. A year later and another stay here was a little disappointing. The room I got this time was extremely warm, and the thermostat had some cryptic instructions to not turn it to Cool, or to turn it below 23C if the room was too warm. I tried everything, including asking at the desk for someone to help me set the thermostat to get the room to cool down, to no avail. And I was also surprised when the business cent... Read more

The A/C was not working......due to "not hot enough yet" even though it was in the upper 70's. The refrigerator in the room was not working properly. Warm soda and beers are not for me. Unfortunately, I have had this exact same experience before so it's doubtful things will be corrected.

The breakfast is brilliant, and gives my review these only points: everything from European coffee & croissants to fruit, greens, omelettes, noodles, rice, and local dumplings - an excellent starter for a long day! The gym facilities (swimming pool, tennis, squash, weights) are not so new, but clean. Same comment for the bathroom. What one doesn't see (pipes, cables, the underside of the washbasin) is a mess, but then one is not supposed to see it. :) The surfaces are totally clean. Great view... Read more

Stayed here for 2 days, at the end of an 11-day tour of China. Hotel is well appointed, rooms are spacious and well equipped. Buffet breakfast is very good: extensive selection of food both European and Chinese, plentiful coffee, everything from fresh-cooked eggs and other hot breakfast favourites, through the usual fruits, cold meats and juices etc. Five-minute walk from the the nearest subway station (Hengshan Road), and just four stops from People's Square.

I use to stay in this hotel since many years, it has always fit my expectations. Food and beverage very good but little bit too much expensive. English level of employee must be increased. Hotel is also very well placed close to metro and many taxi too.

Well equiped rooms, quiet hotel, fantastic sport facilities, meeting rooms, .... helpful staff, great location! We organised a conference with reception in one of the meeting rooms and got all possible assistance. Reception was excellent. I also attended as guest to a formal private dinner in one of the conference rooms: very professional with attention for details!

I've been staying in this hotel a couple of times. I was expecting similar experience before. However, I got two issues in an one night stay. First of all, I got a smelly room. I thought it's because AC wasn't open long enough. However, I found the same smell after dinner couple of hours later. I requested another room and I was granted another room. That was ok without disgusting smell, but I found hairs in bathtub. I didn't request another room since it's late and I just stay for one night.

Hotel was booked for me for a business trip. The room and hotel itself were nice, spacious rooms and so on. Good however was awful, and check in / out procedure was so slow it was irritating to say the very least. Wasn't horrendous but I would try somewhere different next time.

The rooms where nice, they are currently renovating some floors so you might get an old or a new room. The renewal was necessary since the old floors permitted smoking so the smell was bad. It has lot's of amenities I didn't use due to my short trip, and the breakfast was ok. The bar was expensive and I recommend you to go out to discover the district.

What a spectacular hotel, myself and my husband stayed in Shanghai at the end of our East Asia cruise and it was a beautiful place. The staff were very helpful and a certain concierge was so knowledgeable with information on destinations, how and the best way to get there too. There's a lovely view across the city from our room on the top floor and it was very spacious. I would stay again if i went back, they couldn't do enough for you. We never had breakfast there but there was always something... Read more

There's something about Regal beds,..absolutely dreamy and spacious! Great location to explore various the neighborhoods of Shanghai with quick access to Lines 1 and 10 of the Metro system. The gym is an added delight, as well as the breakfast spread. Bathroom and in particular, the showers/tubs, need updating, but that would be the only complaint.

Nice location--located in the French concession district, so easy access to many places/shops, etc. Rooms were clean and quiet. Service was wonderful. While some staff members may not have good command of the English language, they will find someone who does if they cannot understand or communicate with you. The pool is a lap pool and is located in a different building. Jacuzzis are in the sauna/locker room, so if you wish to relax with family members of the opposite sex, this isn't possibl... Read more

Great location with everything on your doorstep eg food, bars, metro etc. stayed on the top floor 22 and the views were awesome although the sky was polluted and cloudy . Only complaint would be wi fi continually dropping out. But great location, staff and pretty good value.would definitely stay again.

Roomy modern hotel, also with more than usual amenities, featuring a substantial indoor pool and tennis courts. In our opinion, the French Concession is the best locality, with a more relaxed greener semi - European feel, while still being handy to the bund via the subway system (stop nearby). We didn't try the breakfast, which appears overpriced.

Overall stay was very pleasant with the hotel rooms being very clean and spacious. The restaurant is slightly overpriced but there loads of places along hengshan road to explore including halal restaurants. The 5th floor is very nice in particular with rooms consisting of expresso machines dressing tables and walk in showers. Only negative would be are the walls are too thin so you can over hear people in other rooms.

The hotel is very well placed just between hengshan lu subway station and xujiahui station. The rooms are very nice. Prefer the lowest floors rooms since the high floors were not redecoreted yet and keep the hotel old style and dated bathrooms, by the way still very clean, don't worry. The breakfast is very good having western and chinese options and big variety of choices, either very expensive to pay (about 200¥/each) when it is not included on the daily rate, still worthwile if you have time... Travelled to Shanghai for work and was put up at Regal International East Asia Hotel. The room was well appointed with a large desk and good internet/wifi connectivity. The bed was comfortable and provided good rest. I can't review breakfast offerings as the bed was so comfortable, I'd opted for the extra 30 minutes sleep in instead. ?? The staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel location was also convenient and taxis were easy to hail (thanks to the staff).

Nice hotel with good maintenance. Rich breakfast. Located in a relatively good location, walking distance from a big shopping center with several malls. Free WiFi, including in the public areas with very strong signal, but with the Chinese web accessibility (forget about Google...), but this is local policy and not the hotel's.

with usually a good (company) rate this is good value for money. do ask for the 'newer' rooms as some are outdated. breakfast buffet is mediocre however and has not changed 1 thing in all the years I have been coming here. Staff (especially at breakfast) forgot how to smile All together convenient, but not top class.

I travel to China quite often and stay in a number of different hotels. The Regal is one of my favorites due to its location and value. During this stay I received a room that was not up to the usual standards as it lacked a sufficient number of outlets, had a broken hot water pot, a quite annoying high-pitched sound from an outside AC unit and was generally a bit run down. This surprised me as I stay here often and hadn't experienced such a poor room. Nevertheless, Mr. Shady Yang, took care... Read more

I have visited this hotel several times when I was in Shanghai for business. I have had rooms on the executive floor as well as on the other floors. The rooms at executive floor ar, according to my experience, for a longer stay, to prefer above the other floors. The service is okay. Although you see that here and there some maintenance should be done. Especially at the executive floor the staff is very friendly.
