Pleasantly surprised with the price and facilities offered. We have stayed at some the local hotels in Shanghai previously and let me tell you, the interior decor can be a put-off. Very basic facilities yet not well maintained. Pentahotel Shanghai has a very modern, cool vibe about it. a Boutique hotel whose bulk of hotel guests are Caucasian travellers. There are no concierge but the Front Desk staff are very helpful. I have to compliment one of them. Lance has been extremely helpful and frien... Read more

great location for going everywhere in Shanghai, room are clean and nice. but the washroom should get a little bit revemp. on the night doing the checkin was very noisy as a dancing party took place. impossible to ear the people over the counter, also not possbile to go for a drink at teh bar. very dissapointed

A very convenient place to stay for a short trip, either as a tourist or for business. A good atmosphere , nice bar and excellent breakfast! The location is interesting as metro line 2 brings you in no time to the interesting places in the city and also provides a direct connection with the railway station and airport. In the direct environment there are plenty of good restaurants (including tastefull street food opportunities further on Dinxi Lu); also shopping and relaxing in the nearby Zongsh... Read more

Stayed in Penta several times and its really a pleasure to go there again every time. One point of frustration is when you stay there over the weekend. On Sunday afternoon the bar/restaurant turns into a Salsa dancing school. Meaning the place is full of sweaty dancing people and there is no space left for the hotel guests to have a drink or a meal.

Pental is a worthy hotel to stay in SH. Perfect location, excellence service and breakfast, and clean enviornment, especially with a reasonable price for a business trip. Closed to subway #2, and can go to SH every properous location easily. I do recommand you to choose Pental when you have a chance to visit SH.

First time stayed in Penta and it's nice, very convenient location close to metro line 2 and the public cozy space was easy to mingle with other guests. Live atmosphere, excellent English breakfast at the restaurant and comfort bed. Skip Sunday afternoon if you wanna have afternoon tea there because the restaurant space turned into dancing floor though it's fun to watch. WiFi was not stable but maybe it's the problem of corner room, also the room was not sound-proof as I can easily hear houseke... Read more

Second or third time for my stay here now. This time I got a room facing the streets across and it felt bigger than the ones I had before (not that size matters too much to me). Spacious and clean with basic amenities to get you through the day. Its location is really what draws me to the hotel each time and I am happy with this most. Metro is super easy and with Shanghai's ever expanding metro system it's getting better and better. There seem to be more eateries opening down the street (and ... Read more

Came a few years ago for a meeting and before their renovation - definitely a big improvement in terms of look and feel. Room was spacious and clean. Nothing to shout about. One issue was the wifi. Tried on various devices but would never get to the login page. Positive were that it felt like a cool place to hang out. The reception had a pool table, bar, games as well as allowing you to hire bikes for free. Also a decent spread for the buffet breakfast. I'm familiar with the area as well as ... Read more

Location is good, very near the subway station. Breakfast is also good, plenty of choices. Room is comfortable and reception is modern and nice. Reception staff could be more friendly, smiling to guests would not be bad. All in all a very good cost-benefit hotel at Shanghai.

I actually stumbled upon the Pentahotel, after a hotel I had originally booked failed to deliver on my reservation. I was so pleased from the moment I walked in to the lobby. The staff was very friendly, particularly my new friend Laurens Van Der Heijden, the assistant restaurant manager. He welcomed me and made me feel more welcome than I had felt since arriving in China. The rest of the young staff were actually fun. This hotel has a real international feel. The restaurant had the best f... Read more

The Pentahotel is a clean, western style hotel which provides nice rooms and has good access to public transport which is essential in this megacity. We stayed 3 days. Staff was friendly and many of them spoke English. We had a hick up with our booking (probably the agents fault) but this was rectified the next morning. Meals and beers in the bar were fine. The Latin dance night in the bar (we stumbled in by accident) was amazing.

I spent a couple of holidays with my wife in Hangzhou and Shanghai 2 weeks ago. It's part of our Silver Wedding Anniversary. As one of our favourite hotels that we chose Pentahotel Shanghai during our 2-days stay in Shanghai. And the great surprise is the first moment we stepped into our upgraded suite. A bouquet of beautiful flower and a fruit platter were awaiting for us. A card from hotel management wrote: Happy Silver Wedding Anniversary to Alex and Heidi! It was a blessing that we both are... This is our Go-To hotel in Shanghai. Its well managed and good services are expected every time. The room is clean and beds are very comfortable. The breakfast are good and more than adequate for your needs. Its about three minutes walk to the nearest subway station( ZhongShang Park station. The departmental store is nearby and many good restaurant are very closed to the hotel,

Very nice hotel, close to the park and subway. Only few stations away from Nanjing road. Rooms are pretty decent. There is a nice pub on the ground floor with good offer. The thing that bothers me is that I reserved a room in no smoking area and got a "sorry, only smoking area rooms" and ended up in an awfully smelly room. Yuck Therefor the 3/5

Pentahotel offers really good amenities: beautiful and cosy bedrooms, clean and quiet, good breakfast (large buffet with a great choice of food), good location close to the metro station and shopping centres. We really enjoyed our stay, except for one thing: the staff. In such an international and high standard hotel, it is unacceptable that the front office staff is so detestable. They never greet you when you enter or exit the hotel, they don't even look at you when you talk to them for an enq... Read more

I forgot how many times I stayed at Penta when I went to Shanghai. Each time, when I entered the front door of the Penta, I didn't feel like to come into a hotel, I just feel like to come back home. I was so familiar with this hotel form the front desk, bar area, and the room, etc. I can enjoyed quite good sleep each night in the comfortable and clean bed. The staffs in the hotel knows me and I know them very well. When we said hi to each other, I just felt like to meet some friends in Shanghai ... Read more

Location was splendid, easily accessible and with plenty of amenities in the immediate area. Room was cosy and comfortable. A different scent would have worked better; not sure if it is just my room. Power outlets are catered to multi-region so travellers need not worry about a power adapter. Water takes a while to clear in the shower stall so had to be cautious.

Firstly remember this is a three star hotel, so the five star rating reflects the results as it relates to a three star hotel. I was here for two weeks as was leading a program for students in Shanghai. My students were all very happy with the hotel (and remember they were sharing rooms). The only downside was the free WiFi was somewhat intermittent and it seemed the higher the floor, the better the reception. In the end our course provider gave us routers for our stay. The air conditioni... Read more

Nice place with friendly staff. Most staff can speak English well and inconvenience due to language is minimal. They have a happening bar cum restaurant at the lobby which doubles up as a salsa dance floor on Sunday afternoons. Rooms are clean, house keeping is just OK, they may forget to clean something occasionally. Internet is the only sore point. No point upgrading to premium as that is equally bad. Only irritant was that they did not waive off the premium internet charges even though it was... Read more

I book my stay with clear instructions to hv a non smoking room. Upon check in, the front desk lady (who maybe been having her all year long, period) shows me her very long face and telling me there r no non smoking room for now and straight pointed to a smoking room. And I was being so kind (thought that the hotel housekeeping maybe busy) and hv the courtesy to ask "how long do I hv to wait for a non smoking room" , she just claim noy sure... I was impressed with the customer service at Penta Hotel. Everytime I had a question or needed something, the staff was quick to help out and went above and beyond to make sure I was right. When I stayed there, another guest got sick during his trip and went to the hospital. I remember overhearing the staff asking him how he was and how they could help. This is by far some of the best service I have ever experienced! They helped make my visit to Shanghai smooth. Salsa nights on Sundays are aweso... Read more

Went there 2 or 3 times for the Sunday brunch. Really satisfying experience: LOT of different fresh foods (imported cheeses, delicatessen, homemade bread and pastries). Even some coktails are included such as bloody mary. Juices are delicious as well. And all of this for an unbeatable price (148rmb) including also 1 main course (eggs benedics, burger...). My only reproach is that they can improve quality of this main. All in all very good !

Located at Zhong Shan Park where you can easily access by subway with links to the two airports. Room rates are reasonable with very comfortable and tidy room. Exceptional is the bathroom seems a bit tight. A very impressive reception counter with lobby bar and restaurant at its back. These are all located in an open space where you won't feel lonely as Laurence, a manager from Belgium and his associates Bosco will definitely take good care of you.
