Really enjoyed my stay at the Okura. Takes about 40-45 minutes to get there from the airport (may take longer during busy time of day). Japanese style hotel. Everyone speaks good English. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful. Reserved a hotel car to get to airport. Reserve it early enough though if you want to use it. The breakfast buffet in the Coffee Shop Rose is very good. Weekdays it opens at 6 AM which is great. Good selection. Rooms are clean. Lounge area in the lobby is nice. I high... Read more

We wanted to be in the former French concession area of Shanghai and the okura is perfect. The room was very clean, with a great park view . The bed was firm the toilet seat was real Japanese water and heat! The internet sucked but that was partially a Chinese thing, lots of sites blocked for our own good I'm sure. We did not do breakfast so much good food on the street no need eat hotel restaurant food.

Located in one of the busiest city's is this lovely hotel. Nice and quite, nice gardens to walk in and view, which makes a difference when you need some down time amongst a busy work schedule. Staff are helpful and the amenities are good, maybe a little dated but comfortable and working. Located just a short walk from the bund and near some good restaurants, this hotel even though it is Japanese has a western feel to it and is nice and quite after a long day. Will stay again.

Apart from the really hard beds we fully enjoyed the hotel. There isn't alot of things for our four year old, but the garden space was sufficient for play. The location of the hotel to other ammenities is great and the proximity of line 1 subway station is another plus for the traveler. The red tourist bus also darts past the hotel. The hotel is equipped with so many restuarants to choose from and a boutique shopping experience.

This was not the first time I stayed at this , a bit old fashionned but still great japanese style hotel. Nice rooms with all necessary comfort, including japanese toilet with heated seat. Compared to newer big hotels the rooms are slowly getting a bit dated, Same for the breakfast, big choice, but some newer hotels do better. The perfect location in the center of Shanghai , close to the Huahai road, and the classical grandeur however compensate.

When I travel to Shanghai, I usually stay at Okura Garden because I really like the hotel and grounds. I have stayed here four times in 2016, yet the past two stays were not ideal. What's lacking is the service aspect of a 5-star hotel - although the hotel is impeccably clean and has good amenities, at times the front desk and bell-desk team aren't very helpful at times.

Historic Hotel just a mile from the Exhibition Center (where my conference was located) - great location. Also close to shopping and variety of dining options. Hotel has been recently renovated and provided all of the "western" amenities that may not be available in all China hotels. Having access to CNN international and a variety of english TV programs was a great bonus. Large % of staff spoke english which made is easy for me. Daily breakfast buffet has everything you would expect of a res... Read more

It is very near to underground station, and shops are all around on the right of the hotel. The entrance is very Japanese style, very standard decor. The basic room is clean and basic. The shower is powerful and strong, very very important to have a strong shower . Big bath tub. Powered toilet. Bed sheets are good with ?goose feather pillows . Curtain can cover the early rising sun. Dawn starts at 4:30am in July. There is a posh cigar room, serving wines as well. Sky lounge also allows... Read more

Am staying in the Okura Garden Hotel for work-related travel and would happily recommend it to anyone. It is right in the heart of the "French Concession" and only a five minute walk to Line 1 and Line 10, as well as a main shopping street. There is a department store a block away that has a grocery store if you like to self-cater. Taxis often wait outside the hotel, so I've never had any problems getting a cab. Service has been excellent, a welcome respite from the brusque attitudes you ge... Read more

Stayed at the Okura Garden for 4 nights during the last visit in Shanghai. The hotel is makes a very good impression. The staff is professional, friendly and always keen to support. Their good english skills made comunication quire easy. The garden view rooms offer a nice view over the garden and the skyline behind it. Breakfast was OK, typical selection with both, asian and western food. The bar on 33rd floor is great for relaxing drinks in the evening, but closes at midnight.

Wonderful hotel. They have great gifts shop that you can buy just about anything, from undergarment to clothing to shoes to wedding rings... There is a hair salon on the third floor which is quite convenient, and also a wedding studio. The hotel itself is a historical building, so you will see quirky corners and overall very nice classic designs. The sushi restaurant is very good. I had one of the best negitoro sushi. Highly recommended.

Wow, Okura Garden Hotel was everything we had hoped for and more. Super quiet, super clean, lovely garden in the middle of crazy busy Shanghai. A big plus was the super helpful team of people working at the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and even though we had read other reviews saying limited English, we found their English to be excellent. A tip for other travellers....a taxi fro the hotel to Pudong airport was only 180 Rmb ($40NZ). Good restaurants and shopping nearby. We highly rec... Read more

Okura Garden is run by a Japanese consortium, which will guarantee a great service from the beginning until the end of your stay. This hotel targets businessmen, however I found it very convenient for our holidays in Shanghai. OGH is located in a nice neighborhood with several shops and restaurants around, without mentioning the beautiful garden next to the hotel. However it is worth taking into consideration that the hotel is not at the Bund or the Oriental Pearl Tower area. It will take you ab... Read more

This is a very nice hotel and staff speaks English, Mandarin and Japanese as this is a Japanese hotel (hence the name). They have two restaurants for breakfast and you can choose either one. I had a room in the upper floor and the veiw was breathtaking especially at night. Around the hotel are many restaurants, malls and streets. Beautiful hotel.

My previous reviews have mentioned a decline in service, yet I decided to try once again and was not disappointed with Okura Garden Hotel. I have stayed at this hotel many times over the last 6 months and have never been disappointed. The history of this hotel is great. embodied by the frontage built between 1925 / 27 by a French architect and was the French Tennis Club. As a monthly visitor to Shanghai, I might stay at the property again as it is an we'll kept and quiet property. Basically a mediocre hotel, nothing more, nothing less. The dated facilities feel depressing. You'll walk in and realize you got what you paid for or possibly less. Service will drive you mad if you aren't used to being nickel-and-dimed and expect to be able to resolve issues with a manager in English. That's just not going to happen.
