Last week I arrived in Shanghai, amazed at the size of the city.I had booked a room at motel 168 near the Railway Station as it looked a convenient location.I was pleased I stayed there as it's also close to the subway and bus terminal. The staff were very polite and friendly towards me,and assisted me in finding directions etcThe room was very small but very clean and tidy. The shower was nice and hot,and the air conditioning provided a welcome respite from the Summer heat. The bed was super comfo... We pre-booked this room with a reputable on-line booking company, yes the room had a window but opened out to an internal passage of the hotel. We had to keep the curtains closed otherwise everyone walking down the passage could look in on us. The room was smaller than we had had in previous Motel 168's. They have a crazy security system in the lift, you must use the room key card to work the lift. This meant that one had to sit in the room in the dark while the other went downstairs to get some... This was our 2nd hotel for this holiday (1st was in BJ) so we are able to compare the facilities of the budget hotel to our previous one. WIFI was not reliable and there was an unpleasant smell when you enter the hotel foyer (But it was something I smelled only when passing to enter and exit the elevator.) Rooms were ok and AC was working. If you're on a budget, the room facilities are ok for the price. it was easy to find using Google map and 10 mins walk from the Shanghai Railway Station. We w... This was my 2nd stay at motel 168 and I had just arrived from the US. I had some questions for the front desk workers such as the best way to purchase train tickets, or nearby restaurants. Although I heard them speak in functional English, while waiting in line, behind a Chinese couples back, they refused to speak it to me when I attempted, saying they knew absolutely none. This was frustrating, then when I asked in Chinese about how to purchase train tickets, they just said they couldn't do it ... Read more

The Motel 168 chain are cheap & relatively clean. Not particularly comfortable bed, but had worse. Bathroom small & quite tired, fixed shower head which is awkward to use. TV has no English language channels. There is good Wi-Fi freely available to guests. For the location & price an overnight here is perfectly acceptable, sleep, shower & go. What do you expect?
