First off lets start with location - if you are on business mainly on the Pudong side then its a fine choice (though the Four Seasons and the Shangri-la are certainly closer to the action). But if you are on business in Puxi (me) or a tourist the location is lousy. Its in the middle of nowhere (in what looks like an area that may soon be built up but at the moment is just empty, half-finished buildings), a good 20min walk to the metro and shops/dining options in Lujiazui (and not a scenic walk (... WOW WOW WOW! We stayed for just 3 nights in a Suite. That is a must for all. We paid to be picked up from the airport in a Mercedes and the service was tops from that point right till when we left. They checked us in in the room itself and the assistance was incredible. We have lounge access and the room rate included breakfast there along with lunch, canapes and dinner. Dont forget the teas, coffees and cocktails on demand too. The room was luxurious, the linen exceptional and all the inroom tr... Read more

Started our Asia vacation here and arrived on Christmas night. Absolutely loved it. Concierge service was top notch, the welcome gifts for our kids (along with a note from Santa) and the location were fantastic. If you happen to get access to The Club Level, it's amazing. And one of the reception people there (don't know his name) was so helpful: he recommended a dog cafe since our son loves dogs (which was a 15 minute cab ride). Finally, the breakfast buffet was fantastic--such great food ... Read more

Missed my connection flight and had 1 night and the following day in Shanghai. Booked Mandarin Oriental and extremely happy with my decision. What started with a very stressful night, turned into an amazing stay at one of the coolest hotels. Bruce with the hotel staff was awesome! Not only did he assist me with an upgrade, but provided me with a late checkout the following day so I wouldn't have to stay extra hours at the airport waiting for my flight. I highly recommend this hotel. Amaz... Read more

I went there as my husband was on business trip. The room is decorated in Chinese style, in the way I like. Room is large and clean. The hotel is located in Lujiazui, but not close to metro or any shopping mall, need to work 15 mins to the nearest shopping mall or metro station

We stayed at Mandarin Oriental Shanghai during New Year 2016/17 and had a superb experience in a Mandarin Club River View Room to which we had been upgraded. The room was large and had an excellent view. It featured a.o. a large bathtub placed with a panoramic view over the city. The Spa was first class as was the swimmingpoolarea, which was open 24/7. Location is very good and all you want to see or do is available within a short, inexpensive taxiride. But most importantly the staff was second ... Read more

Exceptional business and leisure hotel. Boyfriend was on a business trip and I went along since I'd never been to China. We stayed 5 days and then the weekend for pleasure. Amazing staff, from the front desk to the concierge to the guys at the front of the hotel hailing cabs and the waitstaff at the first floor lobby lounge. Patient, kind, knowledgeable and did I say patient? We had numerous asks especially of the concierge, due to not speaking the language, not being able to use Uber and not... Read more

After my extended stay at the Mandarin Oriental Shanghai, I feel compelled to share my experience with my fellow Trip Advisor travelers. Having stayed for over a year at the property, I believe my opinion is both well informed and qualified. The hotel's general manager, Pierre Barthes, an eighteen year veteran of Mandarin Oriental Organization, has created something truly special -- in just a few short years -- on the banks of the famed Huangpu River. The hotel, located in Lujiazui the Centr... Read more

Been staying at the Mandarin Oriental in Shanghai since it opened and it just gets better and better. Each time I'm welcomed back and made to feel special. I travel a lot, so this is important to me. Warm, friendly, attentive service and attention to detail; lovely spacious rooms with stunning views of the river day and night - worth being in Pudong for and for getting away from the buzz of the city. Not to mention the range of food offered...and delicious cakes and pastries.

Had a great experience last time and went back again, the Mandarin never disappointed me, from the arrival till departure it was flawless, the staff always went their best to delight you and extremely helpful, the food in their newly awarded Michelin Chinese restaurant is awesome (make a reservation first consider it's getting very popular in Shanghai). Sadly I don't have enough time to try their spa from my shot stay, but will definitely come back whenever I return to Shanghai. Highly recomme... Read more
