To be honest, I did not stay at every five star hotels in Shanghai, for I'd lived there for more than ten years. However, based on the limited experience I have, it's quite safe to say that Mandarin Oriental is far better than Jing'an Shangri-La, Ritz-Carlton Portman. It's as outstanding as other MOs in Macau, Singapore and New York City. You will never regret to stay here, trust me.

Unfortunately we only spent 16 hours here but they were amazing none the less. But we were lucky enough to stay at the Harbour City suite which was phenomenal. Check in was done on the second floor at their Club reception which was a lot more private and personal. The views of the futuristic Hangpu river at night alone are worth every penny. The suite itself is brilliant. Excellent technology. Beautiful lighting. Stunning views. In room dining was perfect. The fried crab rice and the Chines... Read more

We just finished off a 6 month stay in the apartments at the Mandarin Oriental, and can't say enough good things about our experience. We came to Shanghai with two children, ages 8 and 12. When we arrived in Shanghai, our language skills and knowledge of Shanghai were limited, and the wonderful staff at the Mandarin were a great buffer as we learned our way around town. We relied heavily on the concierge staff for everything from train tickets to restaurant reservations to special event tickets,... Read more

We stayed for 4 days in the service apartment of the hotel and it was more than pleasant. Overlooking the Huang Pu River, this plush yet isolated hotel in Pudong maybe overpowered by the area's high-rises but can offer you homely comfort. The view of the river from the bedroom was simply mesmeric. The location is also a huge advantage as many of the popular Shanghai sightseeing spots are easily accessible from its nearest subway station the Liujazui. I stayed 4 nights on the Mandarin Shanghai, last year I was on the Four Season, once both are on the same price range there was no way I was not comparing. In size of the room, location, pool and gim and free internet Four Season was much better. The internet was something that was terrible and very, very expensive. The only thing the Mandarin was better was the breakfast, but a little bit better.

If there is an option for 6 stars, this place is it. We landed almost midnight and there were 3 people at reception so no one had to wait. When a fourth customer came along, the manager came out from the back to help out. I like the understated service and elegance that has come to signify MO for me. We landed in Shaghai at 7:30am after a 11.5 hour flight from London and felt pretty tired. Because we booked a Club Level room we were taken straight to our room and were able to catch up on sleep before we woke to up begin enjoying the city and everything it has to offer. We did not have to check in at the front desk rather the clerk did all of this in our room which was nicer than having us stand at the front desk. This hotel is exceptional in every area- the decor, cleanliness, attention to de... What a wonderful hotel. A real pleasure to visit and stay. Room was fantastic corner suite with stunning view and all around floor to ceiling Windows. Spacious and beautifully decorated. Spa and swimming pool was also standout - well worth a visit for the choice of showers, jacuzzis and chill out areas. Lovely to have a good length pool (30m?) for a change too. Had a really good stretch out there. Staff wonderful - slick, helpful and super polite. Perfect east/west combo. Would recommend tryin... Read more

I stayed in Mandarin Oriental Pudong for a few times because of business. For business purpose, this hotel is okay as it located near the CBD. However, whenever I want to escape from hotel and find some other place to eat, I need to take shuttle / taxi / walk 15-20 mins to the nearest shopping area. Staff are nice and helpful, especially those who are at the lobby. Delicious breakfast!

I was on Business in Shanghai and ended up at the Mandarin Oriental Pudong. They upgraded my room and it was a wonderful stay. Beautiful rooms and a great view of the river. The breakfast was fantastic (catered to westerners and Asia travelers) and the staff was very helpful. I would definitely recommend staying here.

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in during any trip to China. The executive room was outstanding with a brilliant view of Pudong. It is ideal for business trips with a comfortable bed, good wifi and a decent desk. The food is brilliant at the hotel particularly breakfast. The staff were helpful. I would like to give a particular shout out to the bar staff who were brilliant especially Edison. When I come back to the mandarin next I hope he is the manager there.

I stay at MO everytime I visit shanghai, although the location is not exactly the must convenient one (an outskirt in Lujiazui) but it is definitely worthwhile. Or is a very very elegant property - the rooms are well we designed and always well maintained, the beddings/mattress are great, services are wonderful and staffs are friendly. The swimming pool is the best in all shanghai five star hotels. The spa price is steep but the facility is the best in shanghai for sure (its well maintained as ... Read more

When you choose a five stars hotel, what you expect?? For sure an outstanding comfort, a safe environment, a gorgeous design but more than everything a full team dedicated to your happiness capable to anticipate all your needs... MO Pudong ticks all the boxes and even more. I've visited an other time this hotel over the last week end and I've been again seduced and very impressed. It is surely meets all the requirements you can have from a MO but far better all the other ones, you will be pamper... Read more

Excellent location along the Huangpu River with a great view of the observatory deck. The room is very comfortable and unlike other Mandarin Oriental, the deco isn't too chinoise which is what i like. The most appealing bit about the hotel is its soft touches; from the attentive staff at the coffee house and lobby to the housekeeping staff leaving you 1 or 2 Mandarin Oriental bookmarks. I would like to applaud the coffee house staff who even knew my fruit juice mix and brought me a second gla... Read more

It was my first time to this hotel. Stayed in a Club Deluxe River view room there one night for business. Experience was fantastic. All the staff from concierge, front desk to housekeeping were helpful and nice. Room was big enough, clean and comfortable. 2 good things about Club room: (1) you can have access to their club floor on 2/F which is the best one I experienced in Shanghai so far. Breakfast was nice. Very spacious and nicely decorated. The staff there did all their best to answer gue... Read more

I stayed only 2 nights here on a business trip, but the service was outstanding. As it was my first time at the hotel, I got a free upgrade which is of course a great way to start! The room was spacious with a stylish bathtub, which I unfortunately didn't get to use. Even though I didn't have the river view, the view over Pudong was very nice. I came to MO Pudong for a special visit to my friends and colleagues in Shanghai on 19th of October. I must say everything has been extraordinarily fantastic and memorable. I felt warmly welcomed by your front desk staff. I was deeply touched by many of your hotel staff who made me feel home. Many of them have been truly accommodating, and often went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable. I had by far one of the best stay of my life. Real sense of Luxury. One important factor on a guest's stay I believe is the emotional meaning of a trip. This was a very important trip for me. I haven't been to Shanghai for 16 years. Olesia, your Guest Relations Manager did an outstanding job welcoming me, escorting me to the room while showing the facilities and providing a hand written welcome letter (even with a message in italian, my mother tongue!) and a surprise I wasn't even expecting: at... This hotel is rated as 6 stars and I can't disagree. From the moment you arrive, the front entrance staff will sort out your luggage and whisk you away to the front desk. Check-in is a breeze. If you're a club member, you will be guided to a private check-in on level 2. I had the pleasure to experience both the standard room and the upgraded version (mostly just more floor space and a few more furnishings). The rooms are very well equipped and they are generous with the bottled water. Room serv... Read more
