This is an older hotel and it looks it. It resembles an older apartment building. It does not have a grand feel like some older hotels but it is not totally devoid of charm. The rooms are large compared to other 4 star Chinese Hotels, but the furniture & carpeting is worn & weathered. The location is good with lots to do and see within walking distance. The nearby Buddhist Temple is worth seeing (there is an entrance fee). The breakfast buffet was ok.

This review is for the "new" wing of the hotel, which is tucked away in the back, as opposed to the "old" wing, which actually exudes the old Shanghai. Not much to rave about, other than that the rate is super low for being so centrally located. I was greeted by an escort business card on the floor, the moment I entered the room. That pretty much sums up the place. The soap ran out, the wifi is not free, the beds like marsh mellow, an AC occasionally coughed up a bit of cool air... For 20... Read more

This is probably the least expensive "hotel" that I stay in Shanghai. Thank god I only stay for a night. The Good: The location is unbeatable, right in the middle of the city in Jing An district. Can't ask for more with RMB300 a night. The Bad: It is a very very old and not well kept hotel...can't really say more than that. The Ugly: I prefer self service than bad service. If there is a worst service award, this hotel should win it. They charge RMB38 for WIFI without telling you on th... Read more

This hotel is conveniently located in the busy Jing'An Temple area, not far from shopping malls and a ten-minute walk into the French Concession area. The hotel has a storied history: About twenty years ago this used to be the only hotel in the area. Now things have changed: you can either stay here, a few ultra-luxury properties a few minutes away or the mid-tier Hilton a squirrel's jump away. The rooms there will be pricier but the beds are softer (Chinese hotels often have very hard beds). Th... Read more

They've made this really difficult to find online by adding "Jinjiang Shanghai" to the front of the name recently. And, bizarrely, there's a separate - and much more prominent - listing on TripAdvisor for the hotel "ballroom". Further confusion may arise from the fact that many sites have a separate listing for the Jing'An's "New Building" (although you have to be careful that attempts to book at the Jing'An do not allocate you to the New Building, which is ridiculously NOISY). There's another m... Read more
