All the facilities were great and so it was the location, close to the Bund. I was upgraded to a junior suite. The main commercial street was just in front of the hotel. All the employees are nice and English speaking.

The hotel is very generous in it´s public spaces. The rooms are bigger than other hotels of that category. It´s got a Starbucks at the back entrance which allows you to have your normal breakfast meal on the other side of the world, without feeling of not knowing what you are eating. Firendly staff. At this Howard Johnson you will be more than satisfied.

Stayed here for 3 nights in May. Graded this 5 stars for the following: i) Cleanliness of the room; ii) Beautiful condition of the room; iii) State of the art gym. Howard Johnson Plaza Shanghai located at 595 Jiujiang Road is just across the road from the People's Plaza, a walking strip where mid range Western stores alongside Chinese souvenir and local shops are located. It is about 20 minutes casual walk to the Bund and an hour's walk to Xin Tian Di. Plenty of local eateries and street vendor... Read more

This hotel has outlived its status as 5-star. The rooms are tired and over-furnished (making them crowded) with outdated facilities and poor standard amenities. I seriously doubt the room met the size as advertised. I stood on carpet nails near where the aged carpet met the foyer tiles - fortunately not breaking skin. I had to use fingernails to lift the bath plug in order to have a shower that drained. The shower head spewed an uncomfortable stream of water in a small showering space (in the ba... Read more

I was attending few business meetings in Shanghai and happened to stay at this hotel. Great location right in Nanjing Road. Very close to shopping centers and western restaurants " Macdonald, KFC, Pizza Hut..." all within less than 5 mins walking distance. Also, starbucks in the lobby. The breakfast buffet was very good, served between 6:30 and 10:30 am and costs 115 RMB per person. The dinner buffet was expensive and not worth it ( 285 RMB). This hotel is not your typical Howard Johnson. I had a pleasant stay and would do so again. HOTEL/STAFF/ROOM The hotel is modern, has comfy places to sit in the lobby, and a small food stand as well. Starbucks is in the back of the lobby and there's also a men's shirt shop for those interested in getting custom made shirts for a nice price. The front desk staff was fine, some more helpful than others. There are a few staff who speak English which was very nice. My room was a nice size a... Read more

This is my 4th visit at this hotel. Its the best hotel you can find at best price. It is located on nanjing street also known as walking street of shanghai. Its in the city center. The area is so live during evenings. Hotel has pool, hot and cold tubs. Staff is courteous. But those going to sniec it is far from this place. Red bus pick up is just outside the hotel. Metro is more preferable from airport to avoid city traffic.

We arrived from Busan early on 19.11.16. We arrived at the hotel at 11 am. Surprisingly we could check in and was given a room straightaway. We were also allowed to check out at 2 pm next day. The receptionist was polite, helpful and efficient. Whenever we dialled "0" for help, help was rendered almost immediately. However we were disappointed with the concierge, room temperature and buffet breakfast. No one came to help us as we emerged from the taxi with two fairly big bags and handful of oth... Read more

If you have experienced Howard Johnson in the US, it is a consistent and moderate priced select-service property. It is what you would expect for the money spent. In Asia however, this Brand is consistent with what you would expect from a 4-star upper-upscale property, if not more. The hotel exceeded expectations in every way I could imagine.

Gotta agree with some of the other reviewers, my room was just too hot. Even though it was much cooler outside it was still far too warm in my room. The ac won't go lower than 25 and it's still too hot for me! Apart from this it's what you expect from a upmarket Chinese hotel. Language even here in a major city is still an issue. I stayed here for 5 nights in November. Didn't feel welcome upon check in, the reception who checked me in did not explain anything about hotel facilities , only told me no breakfast included. We only asked for housekeeping on the 3 day during our stay , however on the 4th night after we came back, the room was serviced and the Do not disturb sign was placed back into the room. Location is good , near to many attractions however I don't feel like going back to this hotel cause the staff seldo... Read more

I stayed twice for one night each in a week. for the same rate I got two very different rooms - one was a suite the other a standard room, but no idea why. the hotel gives easy access to Nanjing Lu and with high-up rooms is not noisy. The front desk is slow for check in and out as they deal with many other queries too.

Distinguished hotel, very good and efficient personnel. Rooms at 26th floor are offering a wonderful panorama over glittering night Shanghai. Rooms are very generous, well equipped. The only inconvenience was very slow Wi-Fi and even by cable was the same.
