The hotel is located on the backside of Fudan campus area and virtually next door to Shanghai University for Finance and Economics. It is a pleasant 20-minute walk to Fudan main area, mostly through the lively campus. If you have business with either of these universities, the location is ok, even a good one. However, Crowne Plaza is unbeatably convenient for Fudan. Were you staying in Shanghai for pleasure, I would advice to get a hotel from a more central location. The distance to the neares... This hotel is very close to SHUFE and Fudan Universities. And probably that is how it gets most of its traffic. Nonetheless, it is actually easy to get in and out of central Shanghai from here and the hotel itself is as good as the larger, brand name hotels near the Bund. The rooms are good - some of the best I have stayed in from the point of the view of a business traveller - good desk, wireless OK (esp. relative to usual China issues), nice view, good bed, etc. The restaurants are not great... Stayed in this hotel for 10 days, during an extended business visit. The hotel location was near my meeting venue, but otherwise far from the nice downtown. Checkin process was a bit challenging since most of the staff do not speak english, but were very very sincere in trying to help and fix any issue. I got a room with panoramic view on the 19th floor, which was really nice, clean and spacious. The bathroom was nice too. No complaints. To go anywhere, you will have to take a cab ( easily o... I was staying here during a recent conference. The only downside at this place is that the bathroom has a big glass window which separates the room and that could be a problem if you are sharing. But you can pull a curtain for privacy!! Food is a challenge in general for vegetarians in China, but there is a supermarket across the street where you can buy fruits, cereal and milk. Wifi is patchy, but if you carry a LAN cable life will be super easy. Would choose to stay here again if an opportunit... Read more

I guess this is a 3-star hotel. I rate it well below any well-run Holiday Inn Express. There were several things that left me unsatisfied with this hotel. First, we reserved a non-smoking room but got a smoking room ... and all the hallways on the floors I was on smelled like smoke. When we complained, they moved us ... to another smoking room. Both rooms were generally musty and smelly. Second, the AC didn't seem to work the first night. When my wife (who is Chinese) complained, it turned out t... Read more

I ended up here because I was presenting at a conference in the very near by Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. The hotel is also very convenient to a few other universities in the area and to the offices of some IT companies. But it is hardly a first choice if the objective to a Shanghai visit is the usual tourist attractions. They can be reached via the train system which is 5-10 minutes away. From the airport the easiest and most sensible transport is by taxi which will run you abo... Read more
