We stayed in a renovated room, which was very good. (apparently, there also are rooms which have not been renovated). The front desk staff was helpful. The breakfast was good and the variety of food excellent. The hotel is 7 minutes by foot from the Jing'an metro station and 10 minutes by foot from Changle Road and Anfu Road in the French concession, where there are many good restaurants. The price for the room was attractive. We would go back any time.

I stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip in a SMART room. I believe that those are newly renovated on the corner. They are quite small but comfortable. I would say that whether or not you should stay here depends largely on the price. If you can get a decent deal, this is a good choice if you don't want to pay for the top notch hotels that are nearby. Things I liked about Equatorial: 1) Location is good, close to the subway 2) Bed is super comfortable, I loved it. Good for people ... Read more

We were very impressed with this hotel. The decor was amazing from the reception area to the floors and rooms. In the room there were lots of little extras and funky lighting. When we put in our room card the roller blinds lifted to reveal our view of the temple across the road. Breakfast was included and it offered a wonderful selection. We visited the spa and pool and were disappointed we didn't have time to visit as it looked amazing! We would definitely stay here again and recommend this hot... Read more

Surprisingly, prices in this hotel got cheaper over the years even as Shanghai prices went skyrocketing. Location is amazing - just across the road from JING AN temple and park and in walking distance to Nanjing Lu, huaihai Lu or French concession. Room - we took 3 rooms and were disappointed as rooms were tired and old. Mattresses were too hard or too soft. Make sure to ask for renovated room as they are much nicer. To conclude - price we paid was super cheap considering location and being ... Read more

Ideally located on the edge of the Concession(French) and one block away from West Nanjing Road, the Hotel Equatorial is a great place to stay during your visit to Shanghai. English is spoken throughout the hotel and the staff consistently exceed expectations for their service. This is my go-to hotel when I am in Shanghai and have stayed ... Read more

Well situated between the old French Concession and the new Nanjing Road, you are a quick walk to either place to experience the Yin Yang of Shanghai. An older big hotel, good breakfast, decent sized rooms, it's well maintained and cheaper than the other choices that proliferate in this area. If you are there at the right time you can watch an NBA finals game on the TVs in the lounge or restaurant. That means breakfast.

I visited this hotel for a business trip over a period of almost a week. I also got an upgrade and that's very nice. Despite minor flaws, the hotel is great at a very convenient location (near metro and a lot of good food). The room is clean and staff very nice, and the stay was enjoyable. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in Shanghai at reasonable price.

Just a one night stay before heading on. First time I tried the hotel. Friendly and good pace at the check-in and check-out. Fair size room, tidy, clean and equiped with all the relevant amenities. Primarily Chinese TV channels, but some non-Chinese news channels. The hotel offers a couple of restaurants (tried the Cafe 65). Their pizza was not worth the money. I guess it is better to stick to the local dishes? The service was fair, but not great. English levels very different. A few spoke ... Read more

This hotel has an excellent location , being nestled just around the corner from Jing An temple . It has been upgraded recently and now has a swimming pool. The only negative is that the toilet in the room has a rather silly remote control and is hard to use unless you understand Chinese characters. Good breakfast and good service make this a good choice overall though .

The hotel is in a pretty good location, with plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance and less than five minutes from a subway station. They were constructing walkways over the roads whilst I was there which would make it even easier to get about. The hotel is decorated in an art deco style, which is lovely, and the rooms feel very luxurious. Breakfast had a great variety of foods, with pancakes, bacon and other more traditional Western options alongside the Chinese dishes.

I recently stayed at Hotel Equatorial for a week while visiting Shanghai. The hotel was very comfortable; I was in a Club Level room and had access to the Club Lounge with wonderful views. The location was great--short walk to shops and restaurants in the French Concession, or to the metro stop on West Nanjing Road. Emily, who worked the concierge desk on the Club Level, was extremely helpful in assisting me with confirming tour times and pick-ups. Would definitely recommend!

In my opinion, you basically get what you pay for with this hotel. The location is convenient, very close to a subway station and several shopping centers (ie, food options).
