We stayed in the Grand Central for 3 nights. It is super close to the main pedestrian road, and a short walk to the bund. At the time we were travelling, it was one of the cheaper options for its class of hotel - superb location and better value than the other options, so it was a no-brainer. And we were so happy with the choice! It is also about a block away from a metro stop on two lines, so it's easy to get around to other areas. The rooms were very nice and comfortable. We stayed in Grand Central last year and were very satisfied with the hotel, therefore we returned to the same hotel, and we were not disappointed. Just as our good experiences from last year, we found that the hotel service is still excellent: all staff from the check in/out at the reception, to housekeeping staff and especially, the concierge staff are all friendly and service minded. The check-in/out processes were efficient. The room is spacious and bright. We asked for a similar room as the... Read more

Excellent hotel in prime location. 3 minutes from Peoples square, 2 minutes from Nanjing pedestrian street, 10 minutes to Bund. A lot of useful facilities like pool and conference room but the most important are attentive and reliable service, beautiful décor and unbeatable ambience of this hotel. Good beds. Enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is about location, which is right in the middle of Nanjing pedestrian road and Shanghai financial district. Service wise, I would say, good, no complain, but no big praise either. Room wise, medium size and clean. Also mine was dark, with windows facing the courtyard. Breakfast is so-so, edible.

Located near to People Square this awesome structure has much to offer. The spacious lobby is by itself an architectural masterpiece. Breakfast: very rich buffet with fresh fruit, croissants (OK but not really very good), a lot of Asian food, but also 3 types of toast bread, pancakes, cereals... for a European probably the best choice would be à la carte, the buffet is otherwise even too much and also quite expensive. I recommend Continental Breakfast a la carte. SPA and Swimming pool: nice atm... Read more

We stayed for three nights and when booking we were not sure whether we would be too far away from the Bund but we could not afford to pay the prices to stay on the Bund. So here is my recommendation. If you were to stay on the Bund you would want to stay in a room with views of the Bund. These are even more expensive but even so you would have to go for a walk to hit the shopping malls. Therefore this hotel being 100 metres from the middle of the Nanjing Road mall is perfect in location as you ... Read more

In Shanghai for several days and enjoyed our stay. I had asked for their highest floor with a view and Sophie at the front desk delivered us to the 16th floor. Beds are extremely comfortable and service has been outstanding. We ordered room service when we arrived and it was delivered quickly. Be sure and specify an outside room when you place your reservation as the first 4 floors have some rooms that face an inner garden/lobby area.

First, the Grand Central Hotel should not be confused with the Central Hotel, which is right across the street...some reviewers seem to have confused them. From the outside this hotel does not look like much -- it's just a bland box that could be mistaken for a corporate office or department store. On the inside, it's beautiful. There is a vast entry lobby containing a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, and other facilities, all enlivened by classical music (self-playing piano by day, genuine musi... Read more

The hotel is pure luxury with all the golden taps and great interior. Breakfast was also good but defenately not worth the price. The location is very central and walk to metro station is also very short. Many nice restaurants and shops can be found near. The pool area was also nice but bit laid down. Too much very slippery wet floors and the water and air were little too hot for me. Not enough pressure in showers too.

There is a metro station a short walk from the hotel. When visiting Shanghai buy a Metro Card at the airport and put a 100 Yuan a week on it, will cover all the metro rides, buses and taxis you could want.

First to say - the hotel has a great position. There is the well known central pedestrian zone direct across the street, the hop-on hop-off buss stops some two hundreds meters down the street. The lobby is magnificent, the room perfect. The hotel is clean and surely worth of its price. Our room was very nice, spacious with magnificent bathroom. I value the quietness excluding outside noises as was just this case. There is not such luxurious but practical pool for swimming with long opening tim... Read more

Luxury hotel experience in shanghai with a reasonable price. The room decoration is luxurious with everything you need. Even the shampoo and shower gel are of high quality. Location is perfect for business traveller. Breakfast is average though.

Check in smooth and painless. Room not as large as normal Chinese hotels, but it was right in the centre of Shanghai's busy shopping area Nanjing Road. Room was spotless, bed large and very comfortable, nice bathroom etc... Wifi connect not great - could get emails and facetime home, but google just did not work for any sites. TV great selection of western movies, but only two English channels HBO and CNN Breakfast was superb, very large choice. Bar in the evening very quite. Reception staff ver... Read more

Its very old style, not modern, so depends on your taste. Rooms were comfy, gym is rubbish, swimming pool excellent, I liked having a game of snooker/billiards, main lounge is too smoky. At 400yuan a night its value for money compared to other places

Perfect location with walking distance to shops and to the skyline view of Pudong. Breakfast average in the lobby, and some of the hot dishes were not warm enough. The rooms and the bathroom of very high standard.

A beautiful hotel and in central Shanghai close to all amenties and attractions. The lobby is amazing and nice to sit down for a drink. Rooms are comfortable. I did find the water pressure in the shower and bath very poor. That is the only negative I had with the hotel.

Stayed at the Grand Central for four nights on a recent business trip to Shanghai. Good location for shopping, restaurants and close to the Bund. We stayed on the executive floor, which gave us access to the lounge, but this lacked atmosphere and had very limited services compared to most executive clubs. The room was a good size, with excellent facilities and a good size bathroom. The breakfast was excellent and have a good choice of both western and eastern options. Good size swimming po... Great choice to stay in Grand Central instead of another 2 hotels nearby with similar charges. First, greeted with widespread lobby with nice lounge style ambient. Room was quite big and clean, bathroom was well equipped. Separate rooms for toilet and shower. Beds were firm enough. The best was the location, stone throw distance to the famous pedestrian shopping street, Nanjing East Road. Full of shopping complexes. Metro was right there. Nice Chinese restaurants to choose. The only downside was... Read more
