We stayed one night while in town for a basketball tournament. Just a basic, clean hotel. The staff were decent. There is no indoor pool and the fitness area is tiny. There is only a treadmill, an elliptical and a recumbent bike. The pictures showed Dumbbells but they are no longer there. The breakfast was good enough. Nothing fancy but a decent start to the day. There are food options across the street so no need to travel anywhere for meals. As long as you know that you are getting a cle... Read more

We visited Toronto last year at the same time of year, and stayed at the Best Western, which is a terrible experience. This time we stayed at the Holiday Inn, and it was like night and day. This hotel was quiet, no door slamming, noisy hallways or other sleep-disrupting features. The room was spacious and comfortable, and all questions answered quickly and nicely. The breakfast offerings were not amazing, but the scrambled eggs were prepared properly, as well as the sausages, and there was a goo... Read more

I check into Holiday Inn Express. I am given room 101 ??it is first room to the right of the reception, across room is the ice -machine, clunking away and the window of room opens to the drive-in/drop off of the hotel. I am quite horrified that such a room even exist in a hotel. I go back out and tell reception, get me another room and that room should be illegal for any paying guest. Her response, ??we are sold out.?? I remind her, ??We are in Whitby, Ontario.?? I am stuck as I had prep... Read more

Great hotel extremely clean. Came in on the Friday to check in and had my children with me when I called an reserved we had requested a adjoining room. After driving five hours and getting to the hotel it was made aware to me there was a mix up in regards to the reservation and the adjoining room would not be available until Saturday. The staff bent over backwards to help but aside from arriving after the cancellation time I was stuck and ended up with rooms that were right beside each other... Read more

Got a fantastic price on a jacuzzi room. It was beside the elevator so a fairly busy area and noisy, but the staff made that known before we took the room so it wasn't a surprise. We thoroughly enjoyed the tub and King bed. Breakfast was decent and the coffee was good. We were lucky to get just what we wanted. The bed was extremely comfortable and pillows felt like new. Very clean hotel.

Stayed for a Jays series. Overall, a very good experience. Pros: + Friendly staff eager to please + Pleasant exterior & public areas, more upscale than a typical HIX + Heavenly bed, slept great + New fridge & microwave in room + Spacious bathroom, ample counter space + Good shower pressure, ergonomic showerhead, plush towels + 3-minute drive or 15-minute walk to Go Train Whitby (smooth 50-minute ride to downtown Toronto. Avoids all traffic, which is a nightmare in Toronto) + 30 seconds off the ... Read more

There is a great selection of eating options a stone's throw from the hotel. Kelsey's is a good choice. The hotel continental breakfast is tasty and the room they gave us was very comfy. It was a king suite and we felt pampered. Staff is friendly and helpful. Always a cheery good morning from the staff wherever you encounter them. Parking is easy and is 5 mins from the Whitby waterfront nature trails. Definitely returning to this hotel.

Decent stay - average, relatively clean hotel room. Nothing special. Microwave and fridge in room. Free wi-fi and decent wi-fi speed. Close to 401 but far enough away to avoid highway noise. Air conditioning unit in room very loud. Close to a host of restaurants. Average HI-express breakfast. Only one elevator so can be a bit of a wait during busy times.

I returned to this hotel after 2 years to find it still a good place to stay when in Toronto. Staff was courteous and helpful, (special shout out to caretaker of breakfast room! Sorry I didn't get your name, but you were the happiest employee I have ever met) rooms were clean and comfortable, and at least this time they weren't working on the parking lot! The only thing this time was the two lamps near the window of room 224. One wouldn't turn on, and one wouldn't turn off unless unplugged. Told... Read more

This was my first time staying here. I stay at hotels pretty often, and the Holiday Inn Express brand is one I'm pretty familiar with. First - the good things. - Staff all seemed nice (other than one girl who seemed confused with our request to get a new card key). - Room was clean and roomy, with a comfortable bed and nice couch (a lot of hotel couches are similar to medieval torture devices it seems). - Breakfast was included. - Parking was plentiful. - The outdoor pool and pool area was trul... Stayed here as it was close to the zoo about 15 min. Nice hotel, outside pool, very nice big suite. The breakfast was great, most of these hotels that include the buffet are so so, this was so good, lots to choose from, well cooked, fresh, coffee was delicious, will definitely go back. Also, the go train is about 4 min drive if you do not want to drive in Toronto. Many restaurants were right across the street to choose from.

Nice place to stay outside the city. Breakfast was better than most. Front desk could be more attentive. Many good restaurants nearby that are worth a visit. Especially Los Cabos Mexican restaurant! It's in the folder in your room, check it out.

Clean, reasonably priced, very good breakfast included in price, despite being so close to Highway 401 was remarkably quiet. Staff very friendly and courteous. Room was clean and tidy - beds were incredibly comfortable and too many pillows to count.

The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful with our small group that was in town for a funeral. Even helped verify directions to where we were going. Everything was very clean, the kids enjoyed the outdoor pool and breakfast was good with constant restocking and cleaning of the breakfast area. Thank you.

The hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff is pleasant. But, before your visit you get an email suggesting you to check off your requests. I really don't know why because I don't believe anyone reads them. We did arrive early and all we wanted to do was the check-in paper work. That was fine but apparently you can't do that unless they can assign you an available room. I didn't want or need the room right away and the one she wanted to give us was right across from the elevator, contrary to w... Read more

Stoped for one night stay on the way at 11pm. Staff is pleasant, place is very clean and breakfast in the morning is fresh, one staff member was there to fill the trays as they got emptied. They also have an outdoor pool. Price reasonable for the stay.

This is a budget hotel on the outskirts of Toronto. The hotel is clean and neat. There was ample parking. Check in was quick and professional. The rooms were clean. Breakfast was included and was very tasty. Staff were pleasant. Gym was small and could do with some free weights.

First of all the breakfast that is congealing downstairs is NOT free. You pay for it. It is in the price of the room. Orange juice so watered down as to be unrecognizable. Eggs disgusting and the english muffin stale. Will never go back to hotels with beds so soggy as to be a joke. Room was clean. Very. Apart from that....in lieu of a Holiday Inn I will book an Air B and B and buy myself an edible breakfast.

I am a loyal holiday inn express customer and have written many positive reviews for them. Tonight they kicked myself and my 7 yr old daughter out of the hotel at 9:00pm because we had our dog with us. Under the booking I could find no place where it says it's not pet friendly. And we stay as much as possible at Holiday Inn Express hotels and we have never had a problem. My dog is a small short haired dog. We were not causing any noise or problems. There was no reason for us to be asked to leave... Read more

The government rate is excellent, the room was clean and the beds comfortable. The location is good, near the 401 and several dining options. Check-in was a breeze and the staff were friendly. I have had the breakfast before and even though it is included in the rate, we opted to dine elsewhere as you truly get what you pay for. If in the area again, we won't hesitate to stay here another time.

Stayed here for a business trip for 3 nights. My room was clean and made up every day without disturbing any of my personal items. The walls in the room are very thinly insulated as I could hear the people next door to me just talking. The noise in the hallway carries far so when there are kids running up and down shouting it is extremely disruptive. The bed was decent, but mine squeaked everytime you moved in the slightest. I'll be staying here again as this is where our company puts us up... Read more

We stayed here while in Canada on business in Oshawa. Nice clean rooms. Hotel is nice & clean. Front desk attendants were friendly & helpful. Breakfast was good. I had egg omelets & sausage. My only complaint was the the pool was outside & closed in Sept. An indoor pool would have been nice. Everything else was up to HIE standards.

Don't waste your money. Place is a dump. Stayed with 16 families on a hockey tournament. They were rude always bothering the kids and the parents. They hooked up with the tournament then didn't want kids there. Had security hanging around us all the time. Wanted everyone to stay in there rooms, no talking in the halls no sitting in the lobby. Just annoying all weekend. Don't do it much nicer places in the area.

There was no one at the front desk to greet us. After awhile, someone came out, put up a sign saying they would be back and left. There was no 24hour decaf coffee in the lobby. Finally, they came back and checked us in. Our room was fine, the usual HIE room. We walked to dinner at Kelsey's across the street. I did not eat breakfast the next morning, but went down for decaf and there was none. When I asked for some, the attendant asked if I didn't like regular. Why do I have to explain I don't dr... Although our beds were quite comfortable, the bathrooms were outdated and the hotel had a damp and mouldy smell. For the price they charge you would expect the hotel to be a bit more updated and definitely smell clean. The elevators are also painfully slow so I would recommend staying on the first floor. The Residence Inn Marriott is a much better option if you need to stay in Whitby.

Stayed for four nights in November and overall it was what we expected for the price. The lady who checked us in was no help at all with a problem we had with the rate, (she just kept shrugging her shoulders) but this was sorted out very efficiently by another member of staff a couple of days later. Breakfast was let down by paper plates and plastic cutlery and the breakfast room itself is very small, (we decided to eat across the road in the Sunset Grill each morning).
