Was a fun, good quality hotel off the beaten path of downtown Victoria. Staff was great, room was good quality. They are right near the bike path that takes you to downtown Victoria, and they offer free bikes to use. Would definitely recommend.

This hotel is definitely eclectic with its bright, retro décor everywhere, complete with typewriters, mod style couches, retro coffee tables, and a wall phone in the lobby. Toilet paper comes out of a polaroid camera in the bathroom =) A brightly painted hot pink and lime green restored VW van with, "Rebels against the ordinary" painted across it, (makes a great photo backdrop) will cart you to and from downtown Victoria for free if you make a reservation 1 hour or more in advance. An older motel beautifully perked and brought to "LIFE" on the main route from ferries into Victoria. Excellent spotless rooms and amenities. Thumbs up all the way! Bonus indoor/ outdoor pool with covered slide, ping pong bats and balls for a ping pong area (keeps kids really batty) and a genuine enjoyable atmosphere. Staff super friendly and helpful. We were in Vic to watch a 14 yr old son's team play a weekend of baseball. They and accompanying parents stayed in a less well rated and less ex... Read more

Great marketing concept. Take an old run down motel & clean it up, fill it full of mid-century treasures, you'll appeal to both the hipsters and the nostalgic. This is not luxury accommodations, but it is clean and comfortable. The rotary phones, typewriters and record players will provide a distraction from the fact that you are paying slightly higher prices for a cinderblock motel on a major roadway. The staff is friendly and courteous, there is a pool, hot tub, pingpong lounge, shuttle-bu... Read more

This hotel is just amazing. Colourful, family friendly, close to downtown and most of all our kids were enamoured with is, they were never bores. Water slide, pool, the 60s VW camper that takes you downtown, hot tub, ping pong and old school typewriters, they loved it all! The staff were excellent, we are definitely coming back.

How great it was to find this place - we almost cancelled at the last moment because we wanted to bring our dog, but I'm so happy we didn't! Four of us stayed in the cottage round the back, and it was like having our own little house...it's at the good end of a rather sketchy street (the cottage) but we were perfectly safe and happy there - the restaurant was fun, all the staff were super friendly and helpful. If we'd stayed longer we would definitely have taken them up on their offer of free bi... Read more

Pros - neat decorating, beds are great, rooms are clean, great location across from the mall for teenagers Cons - Although there are fans in the room the room gets stuffy. Opening windows wasn't an option due to exterior noise of traffic and party people. Walls and doors are paper thin, no option to have coffee in your room which means you got to get dressed and go down for coffee. When we were there there were many older people drinking & knocking on doors in the middle of the night. We dint ... Read more

This is the second year in a row me and some friends have biked from Vancouver to the friendly confines of Hotel Zed. We had a blast. The staff is awesome, there is a KFC in the parking lot, and a waterslide. What more could you want! All told, the room was massive (big enough for five guys and bikes), and the staff is exceptional. They even helped us out with a charger for our phones that we forgot. I also recommend the downtown shuttle service, which is also free of charge. A+!

My husband and two daughters loved this place! The front desk clerk was extremely friendly and helpful with tips of where to visit and attractions to see. The free shuttle in the VW van was a lot of fun and saved us a fifteen dollar cab fare. The waterslide and hot tub and pool were wonderful as well. The rooms were clean and funky with 70's decor. There was a games room with ping pong as well but never got a chance to use it. The front lobby was great with a desk with typewriters to use and a r... Read more

We found a very favourable deal on Hotel Zed and were impressed by the retro stylings of the hotel/rooms. It is a new hotel in a old hotel frame, so industry standards now don't quiet fit - no A/C in rooms, rooms do pick up street noise, etc. Staff were amazingly friendly, courteous and responsive. During a 4 night stay, our room was cleaned and clean glasses were overlooked. A phone call to the front desk and they were delivered within a minute of the call. I have not had that speed of serv... From my first contact with the hotel staff I was getting a great upbeat vibe. We were travelling to Victoria for our sons graduation ceremony and had left the booking a little late and were running out of our usual options. The Zed was suggested by the Accent Inn and and so gave them a call. We booked a bedroom suite which had a separate queen bedroom with another queen and a large sofa bed in the main space where the kitchen is. Great retro vibe, fun and funky. Super comfy rooms that are refitted, so don't expect modern, just comfortable. Has super fun time in the ping pong rec room! Restaurant is awesome and busy. Not totally happy with the service. We emailed ahead with request and got no response and no knowledge when we check in. Transfer service was kind of useless because they only go on a limited schedule and not at night. Too bad. Bikes were fun!

On our recent 'girls weekend' my best friend and I had the pleasure of staying in Hotel Zed. From the moment we checked in we felt welcomed. The staff were friendly, helpful, knowledgable and entertaining. They listened to our questions, offered great advice and sightseeing options and some top notch restaurant recommendations. The hotel is obviously not new but the refurbishments have been done incredibly well and with a real flair. The bright colours and fun funky interiors would put smile o... Read more

The hotel stay was as described on the website. Fun lobby area and great food. The bathroom and laundry room could use a little face lift, but was a welcome sight after a week of camping. There were a lot of fees attached to our bill, which I'm told is standard, I just wish this was included in the advertised pricing. My husband and I both forgot clothes in the room's drawers, but after a phone call they backed everything up and put it in the mail!! We very much appreciated the extra time spen... Read more

Cheap plasticky faux-mod furniture is not enough to transform this cheap roadside motel into something else. The room smells moldy, floors are perpetually damp, you hear absolutely everything in neighboring rooms and outside, and the bathroom fan (actually of 1960s vintage--how authentic!) sounds like a blender. Customer service is borderline rude, and it's not cheap, either. Newer cheap motels like the Comfort Inn are much better.

We booked here for the location and price and were so happy we did! What a perfect spot, just next to the Central Park where we had a picnic and walked all around the neighbourhood. We checked in a bit early and although our room wasn't quite ready we were greeted with friendly service by the staff. Just newly opened with still a hint of construction dust here and there, I'm sure that everything will be completely set up soon, like the club room and hot tub. We were surprised that the grou... Stayed for 2 nights in July 2016 with family (2 adults and 2 kids). Booking easy over the Internet, but keep checking back to see if the rate changes (we saved $70/night only because I checked back a few weeks after initial reservation). For 15+ years, we've been staying at what was formerly called the Blue Ridge and is now the Hotel Zed. We used it as our home base when we were in Victoria for real estate shopping, teaching, our daughter's wedding, our grandson's birth...but no more. When the Blue Ridge first became Hotel Zed, a number of non-pet-friendly changes were implemented (higher pet fees, greatly reduced number of available rooms, tiny sinks that didn't allow for filling pet water bowls, etc.) Today we learned that the... Great two night visit to one of Hotel Zed's "bachelor pads." No frills, but comfortable, and met all the needs of a relatively quick trip. Nice staff, free coffee, free shuttle to downtown Vic, and of course, the Zedinator. Would have given five stars if the Ruby had been open when I was super hungry and eager to try what looked like a cool and eclectic menu!

We recently spent the weekend in Victoria and stayed in the Cottage. This blast from the past was the perfect home away from home. We were two couples so the 2 bedrooms were great, and the full kitchen and living room were a real bonus. We enjoyed sitting on the covered porch area which faced a nice quiet residential street. The best perk of the whole stay was the VW Van that shuttled you where ever you wanted to go. I highly recommend this gem of a hotel to anyone staying in the area.

We are a married couple in our early 70's. We like to stay at places that are up to date, comfortable, and close to attractions and good restaurants. Hotel Zed mostly failed for us. The staff were friendly, the king size bed and oversize pillows were comfortable. This is a refurbished 1950's ?? motel. It looks old as do the rooms and bathrooms. Some would call it boutique or retro. I would call it dingy with some attractive features. There is no air conditioning, no coffee maker, no dress... Read more

Stayed here for two nights. Loved the thought and detail they have put into it. Wish it was cleaner. If they stepped up the cleaning a notch I'd highly recommend it. It wasn't horrible, just not the cleanest. But the towels were fluffy and beds were comfy and the decor was a nice change (totally not my style but fun!). The price was great! It was a bit noisy and the hot water wasn't constant but overall I'd stay there again.

We were traveling with one child and wanted to make sure wherever we stayed had amenities to keep a child busy, particularly a pool, but was still somewhat convenient to downtown. This pool, though small, had three depths which ensured smaller children did not enter the deepest end. There were also two garage style doors that pull up to let the outdoor air and sun inside. A small outdoor lounge area added to the ambiance. Of course, the hit of the pool is the slide, which even entertains an adul... Read more

I just spent the weekend at this establishment, our second stay here. My mother and I decided to get the cottage as we were bringing the husbands and kids and wanted more privacy and more room to move. However... An older hotel that has had a "70's style renovation done with lots of lime green, hot pink and colorful flowers and décor throughout. The owners did a lot of work searching for old phones, lamps, photo's etc for a quirky, fun place to stay. In good location next to Mayfair mall and 5 minutes to downtown. My boyfriend and I needed a quick place to crash and randomly came across Hotel Zed. It caught our attention with its bright lights and colors. The receptionist was very accommodating and the room was clean and quirky with an old phone and comic books. It's older but renovated to have a 60's vibe which gave it a uniqueness over other hotels. Our bed was very comfortable as well. Cool place, I'd definitely recommend staying.

Spend a short stay in Victoria and choose Hotel Zed for lodging. My mom of 83 loved it and so did I. The room was clean and had lots of icons to talk about. The staff was top notch and very help full. We would stay there again for the experience and price. Keep it up Hotel ZED! Public transport right close and very affordable.
