Excelent location, clean and comfortable rooms. Friendly staff. Noisy neighbours and no elevators. No breakfast but there are options nearby. But overall a good choice to explore the city. I recommend those who seek good value for the money to consider this hotel.

The hotel is located in a great spot walking distance from everything quite area and safe rooms were great and staff were helpful. They offer morning coffee and tea and have a board ready filled with maps and things to do

Good value for the money, very good location, excellent staff; hotel is quite in need of some modernization, but if one merely needs a no-frills place to stay in Vancouver, this is certainly a place one should consider!

We greatly enjoyed our stay. Clean and a great location. Will stay again next time we are in Vancouver. Perfect for travelling while on a budget but still wanting a pleasant environment. Close to downtown and a bajillion awesome restaurants!

If the thought of shared bathrooms is making you hesitant about booking, please, please don't let it disuade you!! This hotel is immensely clean, the staff are all incredibly pleasant, and the location literally could not be better. With a sink in your room and individual rooms for each bathroom down the hall, the facilities are more then adequate. Cannot recommend this hotel enough.

We chose the Buchan hotel as it was our first visit to Vancouver and only had 2 days before travelling oon to Seattle to visit our son and his wife. The location was excellent, and the hotel was clean and comfy but could do with some new paint as it was quite shabby in hallways and public areas. We had eeverything we needed for the stay and the staff were very pleasant.

Reread the less-than-favorable reviews & agree with (good) reviewers who say that if u are looking 4 la-di-da, stay somewhere pricey (and noisy, and shallow; a place that could be found in any of a bazillion cities). Came directly from airport and Buchan was easy to find with #250 Horseshoe Bay from City Center skytrain & (great) map from (airport) tourist info. Was greeted pleasantly and professionally (told about coffee and given a great lead 4 nearby Guu restaurant, THANKS!), Room (#20) is ni... Read more

Excellent location for a first time in Vancouver. Easy walk to Stanley Park and bike rentals. Nice quiet area. Complimentary coffee/tea was appreciated. Good access to public transport, restaurants and food shopping. Staff were excellent. Our room was right opposite the restaurants outdoor dining area but this did not disturb us. This is an older building with no A/C. The rooms could use a bit of TLC. Would we stay at the Buchan again? YES.

We booked for 4 nights & extended our stay. The location was great, 2 minute walk to Stanley Park & 2 minutes to Denman street which has a wide variety of restaurants etc. 10 minute walk up to Burrard for shopping. The hotel is old in decor but clean & friendly staff to help. We were on the 3rd floor & no lift/ elevator, not a problem for us but may be to others. We had a toilet in our room but had to share the showers at the end of the hall, again this was not a problem for us & you could upgra... Read more

Lovely old boutique hotel, has a great Italian restaurant below, walking distance to Stanley park ,beach, eateries . Would recommend this to people who are looking for accomodation with ambience, not clinical hotels, some rooms share facilities but ours had its own bathroom. No lift but no problem to us in our 60s. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Downtown near Stanley park is the perfect location. A short walk to the park or to restaurants. Good safe neighborhood. Everything downtown is within walking distance. Close to coffee shops and bakery. There were a couple corner grocers that made fresh local fruit easy to get.

We chose the Buchan to wind down after a Denali tour and coastal cruise. Good proximity to cruise terminal (we walked but most wouldn't). Stairs to entry and lots more stairs to rooms would discourage some. Lack of air-con on a hot night is forgiven as this is rare. Room was clean, large and comfortable, if a bit dated. Overall good value.

Location perfect as there is only a short walk to Stanley Park, around the Lost Laguna and to English Bay. Besides that - on Denman Street one block away - there are numerous coffee shops and restaurants.

Very affordable hotel. My room came with a shared bathroom. In some hotels that might cause an issue, but at the Buchan it did not. The bathrooms were very clean and never occupied when I needed to use them. The room was very clean as was the rest of the hotel eventhough it's a bit dated. The hotel is right next to Stanley park and the Downtown area is only about a 20 min walk away.

The Buchan is another 'grand dame'. Definitely a bargain - with options for 'shared bathrooms' (not as bad as that sounds) or private baths (we opted for this). Also - a walk-up (no elevators) and no AC - but all windows are newer, screened and work well. All of this contributed to the charm for us. Oh - great rates! Now to the really good stuff: Amazing location - literally 2 blocks off Stanley Park and 2 blocks from Denman. Denman is a vital and happening street with wide array of dining ... Read more

Place was pretty decent for the price. Lots of room. Maybe could use a little renovation. Does not have elevators so it's not very disabled friendly. Location was nice but parking can be a nightmare if you have a car.

We would stay again! The Buchan hotel is in a quiet residential area walking distance to: stanley park, English bay beach, seawalks, fun local restaurants and bus routes. Loved the first floor customer friendly lounge with free coffee, tea, travel books, maps, brochures and even a bulletin board with timely area events/shuttle schedules. Friendly knowledgeable staff.

Great location so close to Stanley Park and the numerous excellent shops, cafés and restaurants of Denman and Robson Streets. You are really spoiled for choice. Walking to waterfront was no problem and you can even walk to Yaletown or Gastown in 30-40 minutes if you don't mind a decent stroll. Hotel itself is fairly basic but great value for money. Only criticism would be our en suite was very tight and the bed was a bit firm but this did not detract from the stay in what is a quiet lovely lea... Read more

What I love about this hotel is the non-corporate feel. Unique and full of character, so relaxed and very friendly staff. Best location: quiet leafy st close to Stanley Park and restaurants galore (the Italian bistro next door is great). Highly recommend.

Parking was one of the reasons I chose this hotel as it can be hard to come by in downtown Vancouver. However, we were there for 2 nights during the week (a Monday and Tuesday) and they didn't have any available in that time and so we were forced to find street parking and move our car every 2 hours. The hallways stunk like mildew and the rooms left much to be desired. One positive is that they have 2 fans per room, which were so helpful as there was no A/C and the rooms were sweltering. Located perfectly, priced aptly, serviced diligently.. in short this hotel just made our stay in Vancouver even more enjoyable. There can be a lot of better properties, but when you consider price, service and quality together, this place is the most optimum... If somebody wants to be very critical, the only downside in our trip was the knowledge level of the receptionist.. She seemed not updated with the shut down time of the city.. Told us that the city sleeps at 10pm.. when actually quite a... Read more

The location and price is great. They don't have elevators so it is a little bit painful to carry 3 luggages in to my room on the 3rd floor. They do have storage which allows me to store my stuff when I change the type of room for the next night (for my own reason). The staff was very friendly and suggest I can leave all my luggage on the same floor and they will put them in my next room, which saved me a lot of time and effort. I enjoyed my stay!

We only stayed one night but enjoyed our stay and the location was lovely and close to everything. Only one slight negative and that is lack of parking however we managed to secure parking in front of the hotel on the street.

We had 7 people staying at the Buchan before our epic ride down to SeaTac airport. We were able to put our bikes together fix our flat tires on the front steps & get a great nights sleep. It was great being so close to Stanley Park, where we wanted to start our ride. Will return if I am up that way. Very good value for the price. No A/C though.

We stayed two nights and it was nearly perfect, especially the value you got for the price was very good. The location is very good, only 20 minutes to the center (by bus) and in a nice and friendly neighborhood. Eating facilities are within walking distance. We had a room with a private bathroom which was located right to the staircase. Due to the fact that door and walls are thin we heard everyone passing by. Earplugs are provided by the hotel.;-) But this was the only minor disturbance.

Was very disappointed as bathroom was just too small, bed creaked a lot and was just not too happy about the room. If things could be updated and the bathrooms made a little bigger, then that would be great..we had to squeeze ourselves in the tiny space in order to reach the sink..Service from front desk was excellent and they were very helpful and informative.

Great price for great neighborhood location within walking distance of Stanley Park, English Bay Beach, Gastown, and more; lovely hotel and surprisingly spacious room (with HD TV!), helpful, nice, and informative staff. Fan was more than sufficient - nights were cool. And with all the good food in town, was happy to have to walk up stairs!

I loved staying at the Buchan, a pleasantly old fashioned, comfortable and clean small hotel in a quiet, attractive street. It is very conveniently located for cycling in Stanley Park and along the sea front which was fabulous. The front sitting room with facilities for making hot drinks was a great way to meet other travellers. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

convenient to Stanley Park and Denman street, which has tons of ethnic restaurants; also convenient to #5 bus downtown yet is in a quiet neighborhood. Facility itself is a little worn, and rooms have few amenities. Wi-fi signal ranged from adequate to poor. Walls are thin, and the wood hallways, although cool looking in a retro way, do little to muffle sound. No AC, which in a heat spell would be tough.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Good location near many restaurants, bus routes and attractions. Coffee and tea available in lounge. Some mold growing in medicine cabinet and shower stall needed regrouping. No a/c and no electrical outlet in bathroom. Would still recommend this hotel.

The location of the hotel was great, close to Stanley Park and restaurants. I slept really well because I was tired after a long flight, but there seemed to be a lot of noise inside the hotel throughout the night, people in the room above me, and people coming and going and talking. The hotel was really good to not charge me for the first 2 days I was unable to stay due to weather delays.

If you looking for the great location and want to spend most of your time exploring and enjoying beautiful views this is it. Guest room is very busy and you can meet people from around the world. The only thing you have to be comfortable to share showers and washrooms. .During warm days it can get hot but rooms are equipped with portable fans. We will be back more often if the air tickets would be less expensive.

The Buchan is reasonably priced and in an awesome location in Vancouver's west end right near Stanley Park. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and the restaurant adjacent to the property. I would stay here again in a heart beat. Clean and comfortable with extremely helpful and friendly staff.

I had my doubts when I booked two nights at the Buchan. Low price, considering where it sits in the placid west-of-Denman streets, and shared washrooms/showers like a backpacker's hostel? I was expecting something close to the grotty Downtown Eastside vibe (I lived in Vancouver for four years, so I developed prejudices.) I waited too long to book a room before my Northern Hemisphere trip started, though, so I didn't have much time for advance planning. First thing I did when I got to the room w... Read more

It was close to several restaurants and situated on a quiet street. With a great location, it was easy to walk to almost any location in downtown Vancouver within an hour. Considering the prices of other hotels, this had the best value. While the rooms were basic, without any airconditioning, they do supply fans that can help cool you down.

This is not the Ritz! It is a great BUDGET hotel. Very simple room, very clean, in a fantastic area. It is walkable to Stanley Park, to dining, shops, etc. If I am ever in Vancouver again, I will absolutely stay here. We walked to a bike rental shop and rode bikes around Stanley Park. This place is super clean. The cleaning people are go go go and always working hard. There is no AC, but my room had a ceiling fan and two other fans. OMG our stay was horrible there. We booked only 2 nights at the end of our stay and I thanked God we didn't book more than that! - When we entered the room there was an aweful smell and it didn't get any better even with the fan on and the window opened.
