We read the reviews and looked at the pictures online and just thought people too picky/ being uptight about the accommodations....WOW we were surely mistaken. The place is actually kind of a dump. The lobby was decent, the parking was free, the reception/service - okay. She handed us two keys that looked like they could have opened an ancient treasure chest, I thought maybe this is part of their " victorian look"...let's be honest they probably just couldn't afford modern swipe key technology.... I'm really not sure what some of these negative reviews are referring too. My only grumble was having to walk from my car to the inside to access my room for the first time, after that I could access the car from the room like a motor inn style motel...and that complaint is one borne of personal laziness! I had cause to travel to Sudbury on business with a companion and this was the most economical of the legitimate choices on hotels.com. I was not disappointed. Location This hotel is loc... Read more

The Ambassador hotel in Sudbury is the only place I will stay. I am here 10-15 nights a month and they treat me like family. Old fashioned hotel however very clean. Staff are incredible and remember you by name. Incredible place to stay. Recommend to anyone looking to feel at home.

Upon entry into the lobby of the hotel, I found it quite elegant with an older 90's twist. The staff were exceptionally helpful and one even took it upon himself to bring me ice after seeing an LCBO bag in my hand on entry. I was very impressed. The room itself was descent. The room was spacious and had an older feel too it. The bathroom had a unique look to it but I couldn't help but notice that the coffee maker and cups were in the bathroom. I find that a tad unsanitary regardless if they we... Read more

The photos are deceiving, do not expect a clean, fresh room. Granted all of the amenities that are listed in the ad are there but in deplorable condition. Where do I begin: The hallway smelled of stale cigarettes, room carpet had lots of stains, air was stale, mold in the shower, ceiling tiles were bowed, furniture old/broken/scratched, wall paint was bubbled and stained from leaks, garbage behind the bed. I have read many of the reviews and can not explain the broad variations. IThis would ... Read more

My husband and I ended up having to stay over in Sudbury very unexpectedly mid week. We had gone for dinner and then went looking for a hotel we could sleep at overnight. To our surprise, most all hotels were booked up solid. On a whim, we tried the Ambassador which had one double room available! It was a lovely old fashioned hotel, we both had a wonderful sleep. The room was very clean and spacious and beds were comfortable. Suited our needs perfectly! Thank you to the wonderful staff.

A great hotel, nothing fancy but it is clean and the bed is very comfortable. What makes this one of the best hotels is the staff. They are very helpful, friendly and will do anything to make your stay pleasent. The resturant that is part of this hotel also has great customer service. The resturant was closing but the owner said not to worry, she took my order and had it delivered to the room...and it was perfect!

We were hesitant to stay as it is a very old hotel. Would have been our loss. The staff was amazing. The lobby is gorgeous. Old, yes but, first class. The beds are wonderful. They have room service which is wonderful. I find that when we are tired, who wants to go find A restaurant? We booked there again today. It is our #1 choice when in Sudbury.

We decided to give the Ambassador hotel a try because our usual nearby marriott locations were all booked up and because it was the next closest "hotel" to the shopping and people we visit. Our expectations were low because it isn't a chain but we definitely didn't expect what we encountered.... We were booked by an agent who was quick to book us in a 2 double bed room and advised she would email me the confirmation when I requested her to do so (because I didn't have anything the write th... Visited this location on business, this time with my husband! Had a wonderful stay, again! They remembered my name when Upon arrival. I booked direct, not through Expedia this time, and got a better rate... Plus and upgrade! I enjoyed dinner, and was told about the amazing desserts, and WOW, those didn't disappoint. Try the cheesecake! It's a must :). A small hotel, with lots of character and charm. I will be back. And would recommend to anyone.

Traveled for 16 hours - North Bay hotels were full (we didn't know how far we would travel our 1st day). Continued on to one of our normal brands in Sudbury - they were full, but they told us that the Ambassador might have rooms. We went there. We got a first floor 2 double bed room that also had drive-up parking/unloading right at the room. Room was very clean. Not brand new but in good shape. The second floor restaurant was very cozy and the food was good. Everybody was very frendly. Ask the ... Read more

I stayed in the Main Tower which was dark and tired looking. The hallways had boxes and plastic tubs strewn throughout and the windows and entrance ways were quite dirty (cigarette butts/cobwebs). I had to ask to have my room cleaned and the air conditioner and washroom both made very loud noises throughout the night. Do not recommend.

This is "our" place of choice. A very comfortable and warm hotel, made even better with the professional, friendly, service oriented employees. We are very happy to have come across The Ambassador Hotel here in Sudbury, Ontario. Big box hotel chains can definitely learn much from this private hotel as this hotel doesn't use the predictable cookie cut-out approach in their business plan! Highly recommend this hotel!
