Ok, ok, it's Fairmont...a great hotel and normally I would have given it 5 stars, but we wanted to go to an Italian restaurant. We had one picked out and went to the desk for directions. The girl said she never heard of the place and she recommended another place for Italian....it was not! Or just barley.....and really a bad place for service. We had a terrible night.... Thanks Fairmont!

We stayed at this hote=after having spent a couple of days in Banff. My other Fairmont experiences were in Ottawa and in Quebec City. Unfortunately I did not feel like this hotel lived up to the Fairmont reputation. This is a great hotel but just does not compare to the other Fairmonts that we have stayed in. There is nothing wrong with this hotel. It offers a nice lobby, decent rooms, etc. The room service was delivered quickly and the food was good. The location is probably the best thing t... Read more

We came to the hotel exhausted. The desk person up-sold us a package that was ok. I will admit to arriving with no knowledge about parking issues and I was expecting free internet which is something I have not paid for in many years and I have stayed at many hotels and motels. Their website says nothing about the cost of internet access. So, the package included valet parking and a slow internet connection (about 5-5.5 Mbps) which normally sells for $C15 Can/night. As with most hotel chains across NA, we cannot wait to see which of the hotel brands will truly build and renovate hotels to allow another 17-20% of the NA market to access and spend money in the hotel. Wayfinding, signage, access to showers are the first things that need to be taken care of at Fairmont and all other major hotel brands. Staff training and education to ensure everyone knows how to ensure an excellent and comfortable stay is next for Fairmont.

This is a top notch, well appointed, historical hotel, where the staff will stop at nothing to ensure you feel important and well taken care of. All of the staff, from the Door Man, to the Concierge, to the Front Desk Staff and the Room Maid Staff, went out of their way to make you feel welcome and important and I was impressed with how the cleaning staff would go out of their way to stop what they were dong and say "hello" in a very friendly manner every time I walked down the hall.

Very much like other Fairmont properties, centrally located and traditional in style, the room offers space and are really quiet, the usual amenities work fine. Breakfast was slightly less overflowing in variety than usual in this category, but otherwise no problems.

We chose this hotel for the start of our vacation in Canada/US and could not have been more pleased and impressed. The hotel has genuine old world character we find charming. Our room was comfortable and spacious, well appointed and a pleasure to enjoy for our short stay. Small touches such as monogrammed stationary added to the experience. Wonderful and helpful staff only enhanced the Fairmont's reputation as a quality hotel. I noted this hotel is rated on TA at 18th in Calgary so if our e... Read more

My stay at the Fairmont Palliser was very brief, only one night, but it was a wonderful stay. I selected this hotel while running a race for the Calgary Marathon weekend, and although it wasn't the host hotel, it was an easy 15-20 minute walk to and from the stampede grounds. When the Stampede is on in July, I am sure this is a huge selling feature for the Palliser. Stayed here for one night on our way to the Canadian Rockies. really nice hotel. Our shuttle driver called it the grand old lady of Calgary and it does look good. The usual Fairmont hospitality. Think it's cheeky that they charge for wifi though. So many hotels offer complimentary now, they need to step up. Very handy for the Calgary Tower as it's just round the corner. Across the street is a coffee bar called Deville and I would recommend that for breakfast, it's much cheaper than the Fairmont

Not impressed with this one. Built in 1912 before en-suite bathrooms, so rooms are very small and squashed. Bed right by the door. VERY noisy doors. Think we had a family of 7 elephants using the two rooms by us. Complained to the reception and they just thanked us for our feedback. Will not be staying here again. Decor is looking tired and out of a Stephen King novel.

Loved the renovations at the classic Fairmont Palliser in Calgary. Had a beautiful, newly renovated room-- that wasn't so modern that it had no feeling of home about it. Some visitors may not love the trains that occasionally pass behind the hotel (it was a rail-hotel, after-all) but we loved hearing them. Helped us sleep at night!

We spent three nights at the Palliser and enjoyed the visit. We stayed on the Gold floor in a beautiful, spacious and renovated room - tastefully decorated, quiet and comfortable. Staff were attentive. The penthouse Gold Floor was beautiful and we spent time relaxing there as a family, playing the board games provided and reading. Food selection on the Gold Floor was good, but not as extensive as the Gold floors we have stayed on at the Royal York and Queen Elizabeth. The fitness room was new, c... Read more

In the center of the city, within walking distance to live theatre, with many great restaurants and bars in the neighbourhood. The rooms are renovated, and clean, but very, very tiny. The staff were nice, but rather quiet... there was not a warm, interested, outgoing energy. Add to this a lobby that has seen much better days, and it is not an inviting welcome to the hotel.

We enjoyed our family stay. The hotel staff is lovely and eager to assist you, from providing late check outs to room amenities. The gym is modest, but has much of what you might want and room to stream a workout video. The suites worked well for our family of four since the kids could sleep on a pullout sofa bed in a living room with a door.

I had previously visited the Fairmont Lake Louise and thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. So with a long business visit to Calgary, the Fairmont Palliser seemed a good choice. The Fairmont hotels are well known for their luxurious accommodations but what I really like is that each has its own story to tell and so each one is unique. Being a railways buff I particularly like the link between the development of Canada and its railways, and the grand hotels that were established along the major rail lines. Many of these hotels are now Fairmonts and the Banff Springs Resort is one such hotel. The free President's Club is well worth joining. But make sure you get a room... Read more

Tips for staying at the Fairmont in Calgary: 1) Be prepared for a long wait at check-in. The Palliser is NOT geared up for large check- in/check-out volumes (the VIP check-in can be marginally faster). Their on-line check in does not work. 2) Unlike other hotels, there is no provision for parking at the front door.
