We stayed here for 3 nights due to hubby being in Calgary for business. We decided to make a family trip of it so booked two rooms. The one thing we found strange was that our room had a king bed but did not have a fridge or microwave in it, but the other room we booked had two queen beds , fridge and microwave. When we called down to the front to ask the staff said they found it strange too but had no explanation. Just wanted ppl that might need a fridge for medication, drinks etc to know so th... Read more

Had a wonderful stay at Sandman. Next to Ikea and close to Deerfoot. Free upgrade to a nice honeymoon suite with jacuzzi as it was our anniversary. . Bed was big and comfy. Modern decor and very clean. Really enjoyed our stay.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. The General Manager, Barry, is arrogant, aggressive and gave me one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. We booked 30 + rooms for 2-3 nights each as well as a gift opening brunch (where we spent $1500 on food) at this hotel for our wedding weekend and Barry treated us like second class citizens. Everything was an extra expense even though our group was half the guests in the hotel. To make matters worse I was locked out of my room the night before my weddin... Read more

Stupid wedding people...almost ruined my entire weekend. Stayed here a couple of weeks ago for volleyball and everything was fantastic as always. Very impressed with the hotel staff who addressed my complaint about noise in the room near me. There must have been at least 20 people in that room and they were being totally unruly, argued with the staff about their 'right to do what they wanted because they paid for the room'. Glad I'm not marrying her. Staff don't get paid enough to put up with ... Read more

Booked the family suite for a weekend down in yyc. First, thermostat didn't work and there was no note or notification. Room for 28C by the ac not kicking in and it was moist from pool towels already wet and in room. Next, 2 tvs and 0 remotes, not helpful with three kids. Final issue - was hoping for late checkout and outright refused for a large group coming in.... On a Sunday and a family suite?? When we did push it a little - by 1130 staff were phoning, knocking every five minutes. Worst ex... Read more

Stayed for 3 nights (Fri to Sun) - very nice place to stay. Non-smoking (they do have a covered area in front though in which you can) and they are pet-friendly as well. Bed was extremely comfortable and had 4 very comfy pillows. I'm going to miss the soaker tub lol. Very attentive and friendly staff. Each one you saw would smile and say hello. Free to go coffee or tea in the lobby. Also green apples if you so choose. One morning, there were Kellogg's breakfast bars to go along with the ... Read more

We recently stayed for 3 nights in the Sandman hotel south Calgary before driving to the rockies. Staff were genuinely friendly, room was great with two double beds, flat screen TV and plenty of room. There is a small swimming pool, 24 hr diner next door and Maxxies restaurant & bar attached to the hotel where the food was excellent. There are also a good selection of shops & restaurants with in walking distance. For $25 you can get a taxi into downtown Calgary where there is plenty to do. Overa... Read more

I've stayed here few times, the location is great, the two/ three restaurants on site are so convenient. The hotel is overall okey, but some annoying things always disappoint. - no automatic door entry, when you arrive with 4 bags in your hands, don't expect the door to open for you..nope.... - Door keys (cards) fails at least once during each stay... - My room had dishwasher but no dishwashing liquid supplied. I asked, they don't have -watch out for the shower tub, it's slippery upon your fir... Read more

Our first 15 minutes at Sandman Hotel & Suites Calgary South I thought we had a 5/5! Good suburban location with lots of nearby shopping, clean/modern lobby and a nice room at first glance. Sadly, it was downhill from there. We stayed 3 nights for a family function in Calgary. They had a perfect room for my wife and I and our two teens. A suite with bunkbeds, a galley kitchen and a separate master bedroom. Decent looking room, a little rough around the edges and a cramped bathroom, but good ... Read more

Stopped thru Calgary on our way to BC, this as a good choice for an overnight stay. Clean modern ,trendy and nice staff, we all slept well, the room was clean, and it was quiet. Parking was a little tight, the lot was pretty packed, thats to be expected on a holiday lng weekend, but if you needed things while on your trip, its walking distance to wal mart, ikea across the road, and theres a shark club on the lot for the adults. Nicest Denny's ive ever been in attached to the hotel. Friendly staff... Read more

Lots of minor troubles made this stay a big disappointment. First- the hotel's guest book- listing the various services etc- TOTALLY WRONG!! It listed phone books in the room- NO PHONE BOOKS, to be had anywhere. Second- the TV listings in that book are NOT what they are on the TV! Third- Lousy heating/air conditioning controls- it was either too hot or an ice freezer Fourth- no vending machines- just a small closet/room with a lousy set of choices, all overpriced Fifth- pathetically small bath... I've stayed a few times at this hotel and chose it because the rooms are nice and the location is close to Chinook Mall and the Deerfoot. Upon check in we had a discrepancy about what was included in the booking. At time the booking included free breakfast at Denny's, I was given one pass for Denny's. However the booking clearly stated a free breakfast for each adult and thus we should have 2 passes but Rachelle insisted that we only get one and continued to correct me. I didn't say much but... I recently stayed at this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone. The staff at reception were rude, awkward and very unhelpfull. They wouldn't accept my Visa Debit card for incidentals after I had already used this card in 3 other hotels in Canada. It took me 2 hours to check in.The receptionist eventually took 500 dollars from my account to cover any damage and also phoned The Sandman in Vancouver without my permission which was my next hotel to tell them I only had a Visa Debit card and then... Been staying here for work since it opened and it has gone continuously down hill since then. Beds are not comfortable, rooms are dingy to dirty, closet doors off track, dresser drawers sticking, ripped wallpaper. This will be my last stay, would rather drive further than put up with rundown conditions and lack of service.

The hotel was well maintained with a lot of amenities within walking distances including easy access to the highway. The rooms were spacious and quiet with complimentary WiFi services. Air conditioning is a little noisy but I've experienced that at a few other hotels as well. All in all, it did well for a couple of night's stay.

We are travelling across Canada & specifically booked a room with a washing machine & dryer. Upon arrival we questioned why there was no washer or dryer in our room as booked and still showing on their website? The front office lady said that Expedia only guaranteed the room? ( didn't realise that a washer & dryer were seperate) . She then advised that it was a first come And "luck of the draw" when it came to these rooms as only a few had them. We were moved the following day to a room with the... Read more

I've stayed at Sandman in SE Calgary a few times. I live an hour+ drive from the mountains to the city, thus I stay over-nite and get my shopping done. It's close to Costco, Ikea, Walmart and several big box stores. Also the Calgary Farmer's Market (open Thurs to Sunday) is just up the hill. The staff at Sandman are very helfpul and polite and will try to get you your choice of location. I prefer away from the elevator and as far down the hall as possible, in case it's a busy nite in the hallway... Read more

This is an average hotel in a convenient SE location. The rooms are relatively new and there is a good Denny's restaurant attached to the hotel. Beware, however, of the pool! The chemicals are so strong, we all started to feel our eyes burning by the time we left the pool. My swimsuit was a nice bright purple when we went in and a strange grey colour when I came out. All of my jewellery was tarnished as well. You can smell the pool as soon as you walk into the hotel. I think they just have A LOT... Read more
