Arrived to the hotel and immediately found parking. Was extremely quiet. Entered lobby area and realized it was under construction but was extremely clean. We were greeted by front desk staff who was honest right away and said ,"my colleague mentioned he never told you we were under renovation. If you are unhappy with it we will not charge you if you choose to go to another hotel." Upon check in went to our room which was nicely renovated and extremely clean. Asked to be moved to another room a... Read more

Pretty disappoint when I arrived at this hotel that it was being renovated and we wasn't told when we booked the hotel. The reception at check in and departure was extremely poor and unwelcoming throughout the trip automatically charging our cards before asking if it was okay to do so. The Breakfast was awful you could get better at McDonalds and located in a bad part of downtown harassed on the way home from the city centre. I would say this Hotel is $80 over priced

I stayed here based on my belief that Holiday Inn Express's are clean, safe, and well maintained, and this one was no exception. The room was very good. But the location is very lacking. It is in the west end of downtown, and area of parking lots, a car dealership, and several low rent pubs. None of the downtown buzz that is only about a mile away. Very limited dining options are nearby. But, if you can live with that the hotel is fine.

Location was easy to access to with a GPS. Parking was included. Hotel was small but very clean. At the time we went, they were undergoing renovations in the lobby, but it was not an issue at all (not loud, no bad smell). There is a bar next to the hotel, but I did not had any issues with the noise from the 9th floor. No suite had separate bedrooms (with bedroom door that close from the main space). Otherwize it was great. It's a 5 minute walk to a Moxies, MEC and Athmosphere. Breakfast was ... Read more

Stayed here for 3 nights. It was a very good value. The hotel appears recently redone so everything looks good. I was impressed with the rooms and felt like I was in a more expensive hotel. Hotel is on the edge of downtown so it is a touch quiet but this isn't the end of the world. The main downtown mall is 3 blocks away. The Light Rail station is a 2 min walk on the next street and is free downtown. Free wifi. Breakfast buffet was basic but more than adequate. Interesting pancake machine... Read more

Reading some of the less supportive reviews prior to my stay made me nervous, but I did not experience them. Yes it's in a quiet location - but I think that's a bonus. In easy reach of 'downtown' Downtown using the excellent free Calgary Transit system (free service through the downtown core). The hotel refurbishment means it looks great inside. The rooms are great and have been finished well. Very clean and sine exceptionally friendly staff in particular Erin, the head housekeeper! The usua... Read more

The reviews of this hotel are decidedly mixed and it is apparent the recent renovations had some impact. When I stayed there at the end of May, it would appear the renovations are mostly complete, as I had no issues related to any renovations. What I don't understand is complaints about the location, especially relative to the price you pay here. You are not in a "bad" or "boring" part of town at this HIE, it is in fact its a rather convenient location to many downtown places/attractions either ... Read more

The hotel has high quality rooms. Breakfast was good, staff were nice. Parking is free, but lot is dark and as a woman alone, did not feel safe. Daytime has sketchy characters hanging out in the parking lot across the street and throughout the general area.

Friendly staff, usual contemporary decor in the bedroom. Comfy bed and choice of pillows. On arrival room was clean and stocked. Breakfast on the first morning was devoid of yoghurt and several other staples that are normally found at the HI breakfast bar. And, unexpectedly on the second day too, in fact it was so bad my wife had no milk for her cereal. We were told the orders would arrive that very day so the following day would be OK. It was, but how and why does a hotel run out of stock foods... Read more

I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in downtown Calgary. I was greeted as a spire elite member of my rewards program. The location of the hotel is within walking distance of downtown and very close to some trendy bars/pubs on 10th St. The hotel itself is dated buy clean. I was in a king suite with balcony and hot tub. The room was nicely updated and comfortable. We did not eat the breakfast as the line was very long. They do offer free onsite parking, but be warned!!! If there isn't roo... Read more

When we first checked in on July 5 the manager on duty was very helpful recommending a restaurant (which we liked) and explaining where to get the C-train light rail. We tried to overlook the homeless man sleeping on the floor in the car garage although it was a concern. However, the room was not clean at all. There were black hairs on the bathroom floor, on the toilet, and on the beds. There were stains on the bed-skirt of one of the beds, on the sheets, and on the rug. The furniture was d... Read more

We had some changes in our itinerary so we needed one extra night in Calgary. We chose Holiday Inn express both for the great price and also the fact that it offered free parking. Finding the hotel wasn't difficult at all and had a very smooth and quick check in. The room itself was very spacious and with good decor over all. Hotel's location is great as it's right next to downtown and you can easily walk from here to anywhere in downtown. I kind of agree with other people when they say that i... Read more

Staff very friendly and efficient. Recently renovated - nicely done. We had a suite a few floors up and it was lovely. Breakfast room clean and tidy and though basic fare was a good enough start to the day. Very handy for the city centre. We did not walk at night but during the day I felt perfectly safe. Used the fitness suite too and though not extensive it had everything you'd need. Would return here.

Stayed here for two nights, hotel and rooms nice spacious and clean, however the area is very bad, full of dodgy characters, homeless and so on and unfortunately you have to walk past these to get downtown area. The hotel doesn't mention it's two blocks away from homeless centre. Whilst walking towards downtown yards away from hotel we saw homeless fighting over money, petty theirs trying car doors. The hotel knows the area has issues but does nothing but put a safety card in yr room with tips t... Read more

This hotel is recently renovated, and unlike many other hotel renovations, this was done right. The room I had was on the 5th floor, overlooking the back lane(normally they probably would not do that to gold/platinum members) but it was a spacious suite with a king bed and pull out couch. The hotel was very quiet, shower pressure was fantastic, and the bonus was a nice balcony. As a weekly traveller to YYC , this hotel will certainly become one of my favourites. Parking can be tricky if you hav... Read more

The hotel is updated, clean and is a great value for the location and size of room. The comfort of the bed alone would warrant a great review but the rooms are very nice with separate bedroom from the living room and kitchenette. Free parking is also a great perk. I'd definitely stay here again.

Having visited Calgary a few times over the years, I have always found that I am greeted extremely well by everybody, so staying at the hotel in downtown Calgary and meeting great people was not surprising. The rooms are very well maintained and pleasant and useful with a mini kitchen. The breakfast was vast, great coffee and a fantastic selection of hot and cold food, no complaints from me here, they even mixed it up during the week so that you had some variety. Downtown Calgary these days is ... Read more
