Building is old. Some Rooms have smell and insects. Stuff very nice. Prices expensive for this hotel. Location close to ocean but not close to popular places. And worse thing is parking with charges. But you can find front free parking on front of hotel.

I tried multiple rooms and finally decided this one was "good enough", but I was wrong. I'm still here and I wish I had left. The lobby is old, but I was optimistic. The first room I went to smelled so bad the mold and musty smell was disgusting. The glass on the shower door was so old it was corroded, the mirror was damaged, the furniture SO tired... The bedding was nice and clean but I just couldn't get over the smell. I went to the front desk and told them I was probably going to have to leav... Read more

This hotel is in a nice location on the beach with a few amenities near by. I'm sure it was a lovely hotel 20 years ago but unfortunately it doesn't look like they've done any maintenance since. The walls in the corridor were all peeling and The rooms are so damp that everything feels cold and wet. This is is some part due to the climate however this can not be good for your health to sleep in these conditions. On the plus side you won't need to iron your clothes as the creases will just drop ... Read more

I booked first and saw the reviews later. I thought I had made a terrible mistake. Many of the reviews are absolutely terrible, and I don't have any idea why. It is possible they have done some renovations since the bad reviews. From my experience, I can't understand why the hotel had so many poor reviews. I experienced a very decent hotel, especially for the money. The room was large, clean, not moldy or damp as many have complained about, and had all of the amenities I expected. The gym is hug... I have stayed in this hotel twice now, both times I have really enjoyed my stay. The rooms are big, clean and air conditioned - all with a beautiful view of the beach. The hotel itself does need some work, paint etc. Also the jacuzzi only had one working jet on both of my visits. The food and cocktails around the pool are great and staff equally as pleasing! All the staff are welcoming and friendly and the concierge really goes out of their way to help you. Breakfast offers a great selection o... Read more

The hotel is situated on Barra Beach, with a number of restaurants and other hotels nearby. Keep in mind that the main tourist attractions are relatively far away, a taxi ride to Copacabana or Ipanema took me about 25 minutes without traffic (and can take much longer at busy times). Barra Beach itself is a nice sandy beach, with a lot of surfers. Staff were extremely friendly throughout my visit, both at reception and at the restaurant, and spoke English well. Breakfast was good. Wifi was free,... Read more

I have had the misfortune of straying here for over three years. It has changed management and name several times but has not managed to solve the fundamental problem of the hotel - damp. After a stay here your clothes stink, everything feels slimy and the atmosphere is 'close'. I personally would avoid this hotel if I could.

The hotel location is actually really nice, aside the long Barra boulevard. The hotel inside though is a bit different. The hotel rooms, which are situated in the left wing, are worn out. Many rooms are very damp and smelly, the bathroom pretty old and in general the whole wing is pretty worn out. Each room has its own little terrace which makes up a bit. Though the price you pay is not in relation to what you get. I stayed here a few times a couple of years ago. This time the smell just st... Read more

You always think that people exaggerate a lot on these tripadvisor reviews and maybe the hotel is not as bad. I did the same mistake and decided to stay here at Sheraton Barra. It was a terrible mistake. At check in there was not acknowledgement of the SPG status. Checked into the room only to find it flooded with water. Moved to a different room which was old, outdated and smelled bad. The only good thing about the hotel is the balcony and the views of the ocean. Bathrooms are badly maintained ... Read more

This hotel is work keeping an eye on. Radisson brought it from Sheraton, ran it into the ground then sold it back 18ths ago. Sheraton have done a lot of work leading into the Olympics with more to come. The air condition units have been pulled and replaced so that has fixed the musty smell and floors and common areas refurbed. Great pool area and good gym, Restaurant not great, but very good areas close by. A very good option for Barra, We used this for clients during the Olympics and all... Read more

Stayed here for two nights in room 503. The room was well presented and nicely chilled with great air conditioning. There is also a de humidifier in the room. I used the hotel restaurant for breakfast both mornings. Food was very good and plentiful. Staff were a delight and spoke good English. For me , it all worked well here. Nice staff , clean room and good service all round

The hotel has undergone a partial return and is nice. The rooms are a bit damp and therefore a bit smelly. However the view from the balcony is fab! Staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast is plentiful with lots of choice.

I feel bad for the excellent staff of the hotel - they must be going through daily process of taking complaints about the hotel facility status... This hotel need URGENT upgrading. The smell of the corridors and the room is really bed - smell of humidity and mold. NO club lounge - so for all of us who are SPG elite - big disappointment. Starwood - take a decision - or upgrade this property or take it off your franchise list - fast - you are making us frequent SPG members really disappointed with... Read more

I felt like traveling back to 1990, the carpets have stains and ware that look 20 years old. The rooms are large, but with lack of care. Location is great, right in front of the beach. I will not come back until a full renovation is done. A stain in the Sheraton family.

Booked into the Sheraton for a long work stay based on recommendations from colleagues due to location, room size, and the small kitchen space the rooms have. Positives: - Fantastic service from all staff I encountered - Good breakfast - Good bar space - Location in Barra - Great pool area - Best hotel gym I have ever used - good, fast, strong WiFi in my room and common spaces Negatives: - Tired and worn halls and rooms (more than can be reasonably expected for the price/level of the hotel) - ... I recently had the opportunity to visit this Sheraton Hotel while in Rio. Absolutely beautiful location and room was spotless. My view from the terrace was great and a very nice way to unwind from a day of work.....taking in a beautiful view of the ocean. is the STAFF that made my 5 star rating. Mr. William Jackson was the first one I met while checking in. He was extremely pleasant, very professional and willing to spend extra time to give me the information on the hotel, ground... We recently stayed at the Sheraton hotel having stayed there some years before and having read the reveiws wondered a bit what we might find. Whilst the decoration in the rooms is tired in the sense it has not changed in some years the hotel is general fine, with a great location, friendly staff and we did not encounter any issues and the rooms were clean and well appointed. The Hotel is someway out of town so is best suited to visitors who only want to dabble with the Rio attractions and spend ... Read more

My experience started with the system being off line . So I had no keys to get into the room . The room was clean , great view of the beach . Shower was ok , bed was ok , food was good , breakfast too many people but awesome view . The body guard was very rude by making fun of what you are wearing and definitely not trained or polite . Blocked me from getting in the hotel after I was wearing only shorts and no shirts . I also tried for 3 days to get the safe to work , but the staff seems to be u... Read more

I stayed already on a few occasions in this hotel in Barra da Tijuca. It is nicely located straight on the beach. Positive: - Good and large breakfast - The rooms are large with a nice balcony with sea-view (sort of sideways). - Large rooms - Extremely helpful staff that really does an effort to solve your problems as fast as possible (this is unfortunately exceptional for a lot of Brazilian hotels). Negative: - The hotel is in need of renovation. There are carpets everywhere and after a fe... Read more
