This hotel is very average. Pros - Close to beach Lots of eating options nearby Close to train station Onsite restaurant and bar, with free breakfast Affordable Cons - Wifi is highly unreliable and you will have to use one of the 3 computers on site IF the internet is even working. I usually don't care about wifi because I like to disconnect on vacation, however, not being able to use Uber or Google Maps or Yelp or WhatsApp or other communication, is a great inconvenience while on a trip. I am not one to complain but we're to start the electric went out in all of the building in the night but this meant that the a/c was not on then went down stairs to find a truck across the front of the building with a generator on the back of it pumping out lots of black smoke to address the no electricity, building work at the pool side, light switch hanging of the wall, a stair on the bridge over the pool a piece of plastic tubing propping it up, I had to go to reception to change my key card ... Owing to the massive demand for hotels over New Year, this hotel takes advantage of this and provides a lackluster service. The wifi didn't work most of the stay (with zero apology). Enormous cockroaches throughout the room, little English spoken by bar and waiter staff which made ordering food and drink near impossible, no such thing as an ironing board and reception staff disinterested. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Well priced (for an upmarket hotel located near Copacabana), Royal Rio is an excellent option if you need a comfortable, quiet place to stay close to the centre of Rio. The staff are efficient and helpful, and the location is also very good- within walking distance of both Copacabana and Botafogo. There is also a cab rank very close (but it is easy enough to hail a cab in this area). Some minor issues include the fact that one of the elevators was out of order during my stay, so on occasion it... Read more

This place is near Copacabana Beach. The staff was friendly and spoke English. Be careful as this place is in a high crime area. I went out with my camera around my neck and some old lady told me to hide it. The room was clean and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was good.

If you are looking for decent accommodation at an affordable price and are happy to stay in a clean room with slightly dated decor the Royal Rio is fine. An easy 2 block stroll to Copacabana beach and 10 minutes to the famous Copacabana Palace it's a popular hotel with an often crowded reception/foyer area. Upon arrival Reception was very helpful and spoke both our languages, French and English. Unknown to us we were automatically upgraded from a Deluxe to a Super Deluxe with Spa Bath and S... Read more

Hotel is is old, tiled floors, old building and noisy. Wi-Fi (which they charged us for) was non-existent. Location is ordinary and there really is nothing to recommend about this hotel. Many other better options available.

The hotel in general is very noisy, you can ear everything from the hall, the water pumps makes noise everytime you open it. First night we had to move to a different room because water started to fall from the ceiling. Wifi doesnt work well inside the room. Breakfast is good.Room service and in the pool is good too.

I was here for Christmas/NY wth friends. Hotels in Rio are overpriced in general and this is my third time there so I knew that. But this hotel is shabby, dirty, noisy and hit and miss as to whether you get a rude Carioca on reception or a nice one. Wifi is intermittent and at breakfast you can see how overcrowded the hotel is. The staff at breakfast were excellent and I have to credit them. The reception staff were poor, the cleaners, some good some really really bad. Hot water sometimes 'ran o... Read more
