With warped passages, ruddy carpets, faded paint and the lack of safety equipment, Hotel Galicia in Rio Centro is sure to give you a unique experience. Noisy pluming and the hallways that have never seen the light of day give a prominent "bad horror film" feel to this establishment. The location of Hotel Galicia, being in a particularly dingy part of town, is sure to yield homeless vagrants and their excrement along the walk to the main road. Expect to explain to taxi drivers exactly where this ... Read more

I stayed here during the World Cup as it was a reasonably priced hotel. First thing to note is this is located in the centro area of Rio. Not the best place to be walking around on your own at night time, but not as bad as people suggest. Most tourists stay in ipanema/copacabana area. A taxi to this area will cost you between 30-40 real. The hotel is basic but clean and front desk staff are helpful, friendly and speak english. It appears that they are working hard on improving the quality of r... Read more

We stayed here during the World Cup and we had previously heard it wasn't safe in this area. The walk from the train to the hotel was interesting, as our clothing gave away the fact that we were tourists. The locals were nice, and guided us in the right direction. The staff were great, most spoke English and were very helpful. The room was pretty dismal, however. Noticeable stains were on the bedsheets. We slept on top of the blankets anyways, also because there was no air conditioning. What was... Read more
