We decided to overnight near Belmopan driving in from Placenzia and booked into Banana Bank Lodge. This was an intriguing stay. John and Carolyn Carr were friendly hosts, happy to tell the story of the Lodge and the history of the area. The accommodations provided either cabannas or rooms on the main lodge. Cabanna was clean and comfortable with full bathroom and bed netting. Food was good. We had too short a stay and would consider another night to take in horseback riding and local natural to... We loved it! We went for horseback riding and got plenty of it, plus more!! My husband, 8 year old daughter, and I did the 3 day equestrian express package plus one night ride. We had amazing, varied, interesting rides, - jungle, forests, farmland, fields of flowers, creeks - and then thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the pool (perfect temps) and checking out the various animals in the afternoons. The horses are AMAZING. So responsive, sure-footed, well-behaved. Our cowboys were delightful. And we ... Read more

Wow, tough to know where to start! Banana Bank Lodge has been on my list for many years after hearing stories from my parent's visit here so we took this trip with our two children, age 17 and 20. When we arrived in Belize and were met at the airport by Mario, our good fortune began. We immediately felt welcomed and in good hands. We discovered on our way to the lodge that Mario had amazing knowledge about birds which happens to be a huge interest of ours. He shared information about local and m... Read more

I spent, with my sister and niece, ten days at Banana Bank Lodge in January 2016. It was a wonderful trip. There were ample choices for activities as well as a wonderful relaxing ambiance on the grounds and by the gorgeous pool for down time. You could do as much or as little as you wanted. We enjoyed jungle walks, river boating, bird watching, horse back riding, a horse whisperer lesson from John, Mayan ruins, the Belize Zoo which only rescues abandoned animals and provides a forever home ... Excellent horseback riding experience... Pool is a great place to relax. Owners are exceptional hosts. We were there visiting with friends who live right outside of Belmopan. We did not stay at the resort overnight so i do not have firsthand knowledge of the other accommodations. Next time i am there i plan on doing one of the longer horseback riding tours, 1/2 day or full day.

My friend and I were the only two on our horseback ride. We were picked up at the cruise ship terminal by our guide, Cesar, who drove us to Banana Bank Lodge. There, we hiked down an embankment and met up with a guy who pulled us across the river in a sturdy boat, using a rope strung across the river to the other side. Once off the boat, we walked up the hill into a beautiful, lush meadow, where we met the other guide, Lazarus, who had our horses all saddled up and ready. The ride was wonderful,... Read more

This is a magnificent spot. Nice place surrounded by the rainforest. We had breakfast in next to the river. Rooms are basics as well as food and drinks. Everything has a kind of private touch. But we liked it that way. Friendly people. The place had seen better times I guess I hope the owner will renew a couple of things.

John Car is a character, he was waiting for my family at his lodge and gave us a personal tour and brief history of how he came to Belize. The damage the recent weather had caused the country did detract from the horse riding however the staff the horses and John compensated for that. My only regret is I didn't have the time to talk more to him.

Lovely Overall experience - we were there to Horseback Ride, and were pleasantly surprised by all that we experienced while there. Horses are incomparable - so so well trained so so lovely. Pool was a great way to cool off after Ride. Food was a lovely family-style experience. Coffee is a bit weak and not on early in the mornings when the parrots are waking you up (from their enclosure) so try to sleep in a bit!!! :)
