This has a old feel to the hotel the room we were in was room 9 and it was absolutely beautiful and very clean. The staff was very helpful and nice. The restaurant in the hotel was very good they don't serve breakfast but the hotel gives you a ticket to get breakfast right next door and the little cafe. Would definitely recommend staying there and we would stay over and over again there.

Good location, easy walk down town and to the left up the coast to a lovely wee beach bar and the Belize museum. Friendly staff, faded grandeur. Decor a bit dated but big rooms, nice showers (hotter in the morning) and a wonderful swing chair with a view on the veranda right outside our room (10) which was perfect for watching the sunrise and having a coffee. Having the water bottles you could buy in a fridge would make a big difference. N.B. I am gluten free and the voucher you get for br... Read more

We stayed here for a day only (arrived in Belize early and wanted a day to rest before heading off to our resort as we took a redeye). Our room was big, and quite lovely. The whole hotel has a very colonial feel, and really pretty decor in the rooms. The woman at the front desk was lovely and the entire place felt clean and well-tended. Belize City itself can feel a bit dilapidated and the area around the hotel may not be great for tourists after nightfall, but as long as you stayed on th... Read more

I found the information on line was exactly as advertised. But even better was the restaurant attached - perfect setting great food and very cold Belikin. Charming historical building, well kept and comfortable with quiet A/C, spacious bath and Excellent bed !! Staff was very helpful with bags as we were on the 3 floor - no elevator. Not so easy to find for those who are driving rental car because signage sucks in the city - however, the 2 individuals we questioned along the street were very... Read more

Large, clean rooms. It is located conveniently near the port so you can catch the water taxis to go out to the cayes. The front desk staff is friendly and accommodating. There's a restaurant downstairs that's nice for dinner. You get $7 voucher for breakfast at a cafe next door.

Belize City is a pleasant place to visit on an airline flight. Most who visit the city come on cruise ships but it is interesting for a wide variety of interests. Water taxi service to local islands are inexpensive and are within one hour to 90 minutes of travel. The coastal St. George area is their downtown area and it has a variety of places to eat. All sea food is fresh and plentiful. I took a local trip to Chetumal, Mexico and it was the greatest thrill of my trip. I had previously vis... Read more

Everything was great about the Great House. It is housed in a beautiful old building, with wide porches and a lovely porch swing on the third floor. My room was clean and spacious, the aircon worked well, and I felt safe and secure. It is located within walking distance of everything a tourist needs with the water taxis a short jaunt up the street. The hotel provides a voucher for breakfast, and the cafe next door is cute and great for coffee and pastries. My only disappoint was the front des... Read more

This hotel is in a safe part of Belize City, is convenient to a couple of very nice restaurants, the rooms are clean and nicely furnished, and the staff is helpful and friendly. I've stayed here twice, once with one of my adult daughters, and most recently with my husband and another couple. On our first visit (in 2012), my daughter left her wallet (with cash and credit cards) in the room safe. Upon our return to Belize City 2 weeks later, the staff had my daughter's wallet, with all cash and cr... Read more

great colonial home, very friendly staff, comfortable room. The city is not my favorite place but the Great house was very nice indeed. its pricy in the city so the hotel was in line with regular pricing for the area.

The hotel building has a nice colonial feel to it but the room that we were put in had very little natural light and it had a very strong musty smell that made me cough when the A/C was not turned out. Another room that our friends stayed in was a lot more updated and pleasant. The hotel has a nice outside sitting area that we used for drinks. Voucher was available for a small coffee and pastry breakfast next door. It's in a good location with free parking.

We stayed here for one night right before departing Belize since it's relatively close to the airport and we were doing a tour that day so wanted to stay near, rather than having to wake up early and take a water taxi from the Cayes. The architecture and history of the building is very impressive. Our room was a single queen located on the 3rd floor, which as others have pointed out might be a hassle if your have a problem with stairs. The room was smaller than I had anticipated - barely room... Read more

The great house Inn is centered around hard working, friendly, and helpful people. The hotel itself is a reformation of the past of Belize made into the present. It is a taste of the old history of Belize and within it , lies the story of the generations that once were and ultimately the present. Enrique is also a great hotel receptionist .

This is a very old and unique hotel. The wood, floors, ceiling, the veranda and all is beautiful. There are lots of steps and no alternatives. The restaurant downstairs is awful and smells like dirty cat litter. I think it was a bit overpriced.

I went to Belize City for an overnight shopping trip and decided to try The Great House. The third floor room was fine for the night, but it is a historic building. The steps are a bit steep and not covered which was a bit uncomfortable in the rain. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was good. I will stay there again.

The Great House is a Charming hotel. The room is super spacious. Our team (of 5) had a meeting in one of the rooms with PLENTY of room. Some rooms have sofas and a little table. Others have larger tables. A family of 4 would be comfortable. In addition, there are sitting areas on the balconies. They provide bottled water, crackers, and fruit each day. In addition, you get a coupon for breakfast at the bakery next door. The WiFi was strong. I was able to work and download documents without an... Read more

This is a great place to stay in Belize city. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. They partner with the Raddison across the street so you can eat there and use the pool there which is great. Beautiful historical building for a bed and breakfast.

There are more glamorous, modern and well maintained places to stay in Belize city although I would say this is probably the most charming and the one with most character if you are looking for an authentic experience that conveys the history of the town. Rooms are basic although clean, and the service was faultless. The breakfast arrangement was inadequate and could be improved upon.

We love coming here. It is very easy to find, and the staff is great. Close to our favorite restaurant The Celebrity. The parking is secure, and the rooms are kept clean. Coffee shop downstairs gives us something good to eat each morning, and if we want a big breakfast, we have the Raddisson next door

Great feeling of being home. Convenient location - walking distance to downtown and nearby eateries. Staff was great and reacted quickly to any request. The bedding cover and shams needs updating. We had to request that ours be especially laundered as it was a little musty.

Housekeeping was disappointing and TV was in a strange position but other than that I would definitely recommend this hotel for travellers staying in Belize City. Close to city centre, water taxis and other city attractions. Breakfast was ok but a little inconvenient as it is a voucher for the cafe next door!!

I selected The Great House over some of the larger hotels in the area due to better reviews (and I'm glad I made that decision). Plus, it looked more like a "local inn" than a big chain hotel, and that was appealing as the first stop in our first Central American trip. The staff were very helpful for restaurant & other suggestions, plus a few miscellaneous requests that we had. Our room was #1, right next to the second floor reception (stairs!) and was very spacious! Loved the big porches on... Read more

This hotel is one of the most beautiful in Belize City. They give you complimentary coffee and bananas. Make sure to book rooms in higher floors since you can hear everything going on the room upstairs. It has air conditioning and it's a block from the coastline.

The lodge was a private mansion that is now an Inn.We booked water view rooms and when we got there, they put us in rooms in the back of the hotel. We asked to switch to water view rooms which we had booked. The manager switched our rooms but the water view is only from the common porch. We think he put us in back rooms since they were still repairing rooms from water leaks during the hurricane. The room he switched us to had just been painted that day . We had a non-stop 10 day Belize adventure - 5 days on the go in the interior and 4 days in the Cayes. It was our first time in Belize and we wanted to make sure we did everything and we did! The challenge with doing everything is that you get that combination of excitement, exhaustion, etc. and we wanted a quiet place for last night and the Great House was amazing. The hotel was beautiful, the staff was friendly, and it was conveniently located. It was a shame that it was surrounded by the monstrosity of the Radisson. We stayed on our first night in Belize. We found it easy to get to from the airport, upstairs from the Smoky Mermaid, and a quick walk from the ocean. It was also a great base to explore Belize City the next morning. While it is not a destination location, I highly recommend The Great House as a place to stay.

Decent hotel with no restaurant for breakfast (needed in this area). Spacious room but quite old. Costs almost as much as the Radison next to it and offers a lot more basic standard. If its price was lower it could be good value for money.

This is a lovely antebellum mansion style hotel a few minutes walk from the cruise ship tourist village. We booked a junior suite which was a lovely space with a king bed. There is a continental breakfast included and a decent restaurant and bar in the hotel. The food was good, the key lime pie was amazing. We arrived a day late (American Airlines) and they sent a letter to the booking company asking for a refund on our behalf.

We were satisfied with the accommodations. The hotel was clean. The staff was very nice. It is a very old building and not built to today's standards. Just be aware. For whatever reason, the people next door were up all night and as they walked back and forth, the bed in our room moved up and down. Kept me up all night. If you HAVE to stay in Belize then do so but what we learned was that there are water taxis that go out to the island every hour or so. Get on one of those instead of staying in Belize City. There is not much to see in Belize City, as the taxi drivers and tour guides will tell you, be in your room by dark. The unemployment rate in Belize is 35% and that has made Belize City kind of dangerous.

For a hundred year home in Belize it is in amazing condition. Our room was quite, had excellent AC and the decor was perfectly pleasing. Fast WIFI everywhere. There was also a porch swing and porches that wrapped all away around each floor for beautiful panoramic views. The only I found was the restaurant on the first floor.
