Our cottage was spacious and comfortable with a balcony overlooking the Macal river. The food is excellent, with specials for dinner every evening. At breakfast in the open-air dining room, we had a show of toucans, feeding on the watermelon rinds and other fruits set out for them on a nearby platform. The owners, Tom and Nadege, are very friendly and helpful. Various tours are offered and there are many trails for hiking and also lots of birds.

We stayed here for 3 nights and we were the only guests at that time, but that didn't deter the staff from making us feel very welcome. The setting is ideally placed by the river in the jungle. Each chalet is large and well provisioned with excellent bathroom facilities and a private balcony on which you can sit and watch and listen to the jungle life, in a tranquil setting. The restaurant is open-air so that you may watch the abundant bird-life as you dine. The menu was varied and tasty and the... Read more

Our cabana was delightful. Very comfortable, superb bed, rustic feel but modern bathroom. Exceptionally clean and no mosquitos. Tranquil beautiful gardens, plants and trees. Friendly and atmospheric bar and beautiful restaurant overlooking the river with toucans feeding from a nearby bird table. Food very good and staff could not be more helpful and friendly. Tours organised from there are excellent - ask for Ben. We regretted not staying for more days, 3 is not enough. Hiking trails through the... Read more

While we devoted the majority of our vacation in Belize to the beaches of Ambergris Caye, we also spent three nights in the forested foothills at Mystic River Resort. Literally everything at this resort is located overlooking the Macal River and the setting couldn't be more beautiful. The meticulously maintained grounds are landscaped with blooming tropical plants, situated in the middle of the forest, and the river, with its heavily forested banks, is central to all. The biggest surprise of a... Read more

This is a quiet, well maintained resort in the jungle. They have done an excellent job not just clearing all the trees but nestling the cabins within the natural environment. Tom and Nadege go out of their way to help you do whatever interests you - butterflies, horseback riding, caving, birding, tubing or canoeing down the river to mention a few. We were even able to see Nadege's cheese making operation simply because it interested us. They provide a very personalized service and do whatever th... Read more

Mystic River Resort is about 25 minutes outside San Ignacio (on some bumpy roads), but it is worth the drive. The staff: extremely welcoming and helpful the entire time we were there, Guesthouse: clean and comfortable (especially the bed!), soaps and chocolate scrub in the shower, and a coffee basket dropped off every morning. Food/drinks: delicious! The restaurant looks out over the river. We especially loved the bananas foster. It was wonderful that we could drink the water from the tap (th... Read more

This really is a five star getaway location. The service from Tom and Nadege is just outstanding. In the evening, they discuss your plans for the next day and then make it all just happen. We like an active holiday so they organized canoeing, river tubing and an amazing tour to the ATM Cave (Ben is a brilliant guide!). The food at the restaurant was very nice, and the daily cocktails in the bar were always fun. Make sure you get up early at least one morning to see the toucan feeding at breakf... Read more

I loved this place and would happily go back. To begin with getting there: it's about 7 miles out of downtown San Ignacio. I believe taxis would cost about $40 each way, but we had various outings booked through other agencies who were able to pick us up and drop us off. Most of the road there is paved, but there is probably about a mile total that is unpaved and bumpy. As for the location itself, each room is actually a stand alone cabin with an en suite bathroom. The bed was a King and v... Read more

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Mystic River Resort for 5 nights. The resort has beautifully maintained grounds. The room we stayed at ( room 1) was rustic/modern, very clean. The deck was set around trees, and overlooked the Mystic river. The owners were very careful not to cut down any more trees that they had to nestle the cottages into nature. We had coffee, tea, banana bread, and cinnamon rolls delivered each morning at 7am. We would sit on our deck in the morning, an... Read more
