We booked here based on the location and reviews but really didn‚??t fully understand what the property itself had to offer. Most hotels in Belize are simply a place to stay as activities happen off-property that the hotel may coordinate for you. Mystic River has the river in their backyard and easily viewable from the balcony. It's a very tranquil and beautiful place where you could become ‚??one with nature‚??. You can also canoe or river tube at your leisure. They have something like 160 acre... Read more

This is a small resort. The 11 cabins are spread around a hilly landscaped terrain. We stayed in #1 which was the most remote, but we liked that. It gave us the feeling of being alone in the rainforest with a good view of the river below. The room was immaculate. The dining room is halfway down a steep hill. The food tends to be on the heavy side and the portions are enormous. The hike back up to the cabins hopefully burned off some of the calories. This is a great location for birding. Abim... Read more

My husband and I were at mystic river for 3 nights in late April. This was absolutely the highlight of our week long trip! From the minute we got there we had wonderful service, and was surrounded by beautiful, quiet nature. The rooms are lovely, with decks overlooking the river/jungle. They are all individual cabins, fairly private though somewhat close to each other (depending on your room). Every morning the sound of birds filled the grounds. Rooms are very spacious, a bit dark though. Eve... Read more

We had come to Mystic River for dinner and were impressed by the security person, Steve, who greeted us and showed us to the Restaurant for us to determine if we would make a reservation for the evening. He was just lovely. We did return later for dinner and then drove back to our lodge where we had accidentally be locked out. While we were honking and determining our next move, Steve drove by. It was pitch black and a desolate road....he stopped and tried to help us with a strategy to alert... Read more

The room was quaint and beautiful. Service was excellent. We felt safe and secure in the resort. 24-hour security was provided. The reason we didn't rate this place at a 5/5 was there was no air conditioning. It was very muggy, and difficult to sleep in. The interior of the room however was very well-kept, and updated. The grounds were clean, and the resort itself was pretty. Wifi was limited to the bar and restaurant area, not available in guest rooms.

Amazing timing! Rooms are fantastic and the fireplace is a special touch. The staff is extremely accommodating. Views are beautiful. If you want to go on an excursion Ben is a must travel guide. ATM cave is once in a lifetime. The owner is very welcoming. The property is stunning and the trails are nice for exercise. Food was wonderful. If you are looking for a romantic getaway off the grid, this is the place to go.

Lovely resort with personal, well appointed villas. Be aware that there is no A/C! They have fans in the rooms, but it wasn't quite enough on 80 degree nights! We had a wonderful couples massage at the spa and enjoyed several excursions from the resort. Our guide, Ben, was the most educated and informative guide we've ever had! Ben was with us on our ATM adventure as well as our tour of Caracol. He was so informative that we were able to educate Belizeans on some of their own history! The fo... Read more

Mystic River is a beautiful eco lodge. The cottages were lovely and comfortable. We had coffee delivered to our door every morning - and we loved drinking it out on the balcony which overlooked the river and jungle - watching Toucans and other birds. The food was good in the restaurant and the service excellent. Our guide (Ben) was exceptional in his knowledge and ability to share the magic and adventure of the ATM cave and Mayan ruins. Keep in mind that Mystic River is remote - so if you don't ... Read more

Beautiful resort. Rented a car and drove from airport in Belize City. There are NO road signs. Visited during hurricane. Road was easily passable. Beautiful grounds with hiking trails and orchard. Incredible views of river. Food served at restaurant is excellent and the people who work there are really nice.

We arrived several days after the storm rolled through for a 7 day stay and was unaware that all of the attractions were closed due to flooding or accessibility but we made the best of the situation. We went to a site in Guatemala, Tikal which had escaped most of the damage from the hurricane. Was a very nice day trip, Beautiful site but if you go carry a poncho in the backpack for afternoon downpours. The next day we were off to a out of the way cave to explore the underworld, The real cave, AT... Read more

This resort is in a league of its own, very private and relaxing. There was a lot of attention spent on the details, it seems every need and luxury has been thought of! The staff was amazing, the food was out of this world! We visited here for our family vacation with our 8 year old he was a little disappointed no swimming pool. There is a little 2 foot (depth) pool at the spa that can be used and ofcourse the river but definetly something to consider if traveling with children. The tours (we di... Read more

I'm the author of archaeological novels. What better place for a base in the jungle than Mystic River Resort? It's close to a lot of major ruins in Belize and Guatemala and the seasoned, knowledgable guides are the best I've found. Tom and Nadege Thomas are masters at providing five-star service in a quiet environment. You can sit on the patio in a rainstorm and watch the Macal River below you - it's the ultimate in serenity. You can have a wonderful cocktail in the bar and a different entre... Read more

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at Mystic River in early September. We stayed in a one-bedroom casita overlooking the Macal river for four days and spent each day going off the resort on a guided excursion. With our guide, the inimitable Ben Cruz, we went cave tubing at Nohoch Che'en, swimming/wading/climbing into the ATM cave, walking around San Ignacio, and exploring Xunantunich and Cahal Pech. We also had a fun horseback trail-ride at the nearby Mountain Equestrian Trails, with Rigo as ... Read more

I recently went to Belize with a couple of college buddies later part of August, we graduated over 40 years ago, following discussion we had had at our school reunion in June on the subject. The flight on SWA from Houston to Belize was approximately 2 hours. The resort we were staying at, "Mystic River," had a driver and vehicle waiting for us once we cleared customs, which in itself was quick compared to USA. The ride from airport to resort which is located on Western side of Belize is littl... Read more

Another amazing trip to Mystic River in Belize! This resort provides family friendly and adult friendly activities. The food and service was wonderful. We went zip lining and toured the ATM cave with our children. It was such a unique experience for them. They are ready to go back today. We stayed in one of the larger units that was two bedrooms and two bathrooms plus living area and a spacious patio. It was the perfect size for our family of four. Mystic River was beautiful. The all inclusive package was perfect for us. Everyone was very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Would highly recommended if your looking for a place to stay and relax inland. Our guide Ben was very knowledgeable. The best tour we took in Belize was the ATM cave tour. The ruins were a sight to be seen. We went in September and there were little to no mosquitoes. There is no AC in the rooms, but plenty of fans.

Great location in the jungle with rooms right above the Macaw River. Took many local tours with knowledgeable and friendly guides. Food was excellent with a large selection. The on site bar was a great place to hang out and meet other guests and discuss and compare the local tours. Rooms are modern with different sizes to fit your needs. The staff was friendly and helpful. You can do as much or as little each day for a great vacation. I'll be back!

We did the all inclusive package which worked out well for us. Ben was a fantastic tour guide for the Caracol ruins and ATM cave. ATM is a must-see! My husband and I travelled to Belize in August with our 2 month old baby. We were a bit hesitant to make the trip but we are so happy that we did. Nadege and Tom, and all of the staff at Mystic River are very helpful, kind and accommodating. We stayed in a beautiful one bedroom suite. When we arrived, they had set up a play pen/bassinet for us (our baby ended up sleeping in the comfortable king bed with us, but it was nice to know the option was there). My husband and I just left the Mystic River Resort yesterday after a 3 night stay. It was a great experience for us but if you're not a nature lover you will likely hate it. You're very secluded from everything and there's not much to do on the resort other than hike, eat and drink. We rented a car so this didn't bother us at all. We made our own accommodations for excursions rather than go through the resort just to save a couple of dollars but if you don't have your own car you can certainly a... Read more

We just returned from three days in the jungle at Mystic River, and then four days at Ambergris Caye. Being a beach person, I was mainly looking forward to the latter portion of the trip, and had rather low expectations of being inland. But I was very pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable our jungle experience was. The Mystic River Resort is fantastic. We loved how well the grounds were designed; how the individual buildings are laid-out in a way that takes full advantage of river and jun... Read more
