This is not a 4 star hotel. The room was old fashioned, no flat screen, old furniture, the bathroom needs a serious make-over... The temperature outside was well below zero during my visit, but it took just to long to get the room at a descent temperature. Also the heating in the bathroom was broken and it was impossible to stay there in your pyjamas. On a positive note, breakfast was good and the service was pleasant. But it doesn't deserve a 4th star.

Appalling and anti-English. I visited the Begijhof hotel in November 2015 with a small number of business colleagues from a variety of countries. The rooms had been booked many weeks before. When I arrived before 18.00 to check-in I was told by reception that no room was available and suggested that I should share with someone else. I said this was unacceptable and asked that an alternative room be found. As this was off-season I did not see why this should be a major issue but to the recept... Read more

We went there for the Eastern Brunch and it was quite disappointing. Just an ordinary breakfast followed by 2 warm dishes. Definitely not worth the ‚?¨59pp ! The location is interesting but for a much lower price you get an excellent meal in a nearby restaurant.

This hotel is located in a very beautiful area of Leuven. Plenty of cobble-stoned streets and historic brick homes and churches. I'm not sure the history of the building the hotel is in but it fits in well on the banks of the river. The room itself was very comfortable with flat scree TV.

Very comfortable hotel in a beautiful part of Leuven (Begijnhof). We comfortably stayed with four of us in one room. Breakfast buffet was delicious en generous. Hotel staff gave some snacks for the kids to bring for the car journey when we left, which was a very nice gesture. The restaurant served very good food and the Belgian beers on offer were of course amazing.

This hotel is placed in a wonderful part of Leuven: the Groot Begijnhof, which is a UNESCO world heritage site (just pay attention to the cobble-stoned streets which may be a little slippery, in case of rain). The rooms are clean, with comfy bed and a coffee maker. Breakfast was very good with a lot of variety: there is salmon, various kinds of cheese and different jams. The breakfast room itself is really nice! The hotel is closed to a river and there is also a beautiful garden. The clerks at t... Read more

This hotel is pretty new but totally understaffed. While we were there I believe they had two employees, one at the desk and one at the bar who also served food. I would not be surprised it he also cooked and this young Iranian man was the savior for me of this hotel rating. We have been in many hotel rooms across Europe but this room was small. The odd choice of putting a square table in the room (not a desk, a table) was crazy! It took up too much space even though it was in a corner. They hav... Read more

The designers of the Begijnhof Hotel did a fantastic job of preserving the beautiful historic building and grounds while meeting modern expectations. The hotel is situated adjacent to the Groot Begijnhof, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which is now owned by KU Leuven and used to house visitors and students. It was originally a beguinage (a community of semi-religious women) and is a car-free oasis of cobblestone streets, brick houses, trees, canals, etc. (see photos). The hotel blends beauti... My wife had a conference at the university and we stayed here for six nights. I had a good time and heartily recommend this hotel. The location is wonderful, in a beautiful ancient section of town called the Groot Begijnhof, filled with old buildings and winding, cobblestone streets. At the same time, you're only a fifteen minute walk, give or take, to the beautiful main central square of town, where there are millions of restaurants. (It's about a forty minute walk to the train station; we too... Read more

This is an excellent hotel in Leuven, just a short train trip outside of Brussels, and a short 10 minutes or so taxi ride from the central train station (taxi stand outside the station....not well marked when we were there). We arrived on an overnight flight from the US and got to the hotel around 9am, way to early to check in. However, the desk staff were very helpful in showing us a walking map of the area that led to Leuven central after about a 15-20 minute walk. It was an easy walk, flat... Read more

We've only been here a couple of hours and the beautiful location is marred by the obnoxious receptionist with absolutely no sense of customer service or, frankly, basic manners. Appears to be a common experience given other customer reviews as well.

Begijnhof Hotel is located about a mile and a half from Leuven train station. The reception staff were friendly and the check-in process was good. My room was fairly large and clean. The bed was comfortable. There was a desk to work at and there was a coffee making machine and a mini-fridge which was reasonably stocked. The breakfast was adequate. There is a restaurant/bar on the ground floor. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable on local beers. There is a good range of beers to be tried, I... Read more

During a recent trip to Leuven, our company stayed at this hotel. With an early flight arrival, we were not able to check in before 2pm but the hotel was able to hold our luggage until check-in time. The hotel is on a small property with a small, peaceful courtyard in the back near a waterway. Rooms at the hotel are a decent size for European hotels with just enough space for your belongings, a work table and counter/tv. Washrooms were a bit dated and had some rough edges. The location and immediate surroundings are wonderful. You feel like you're walking in an ancient little city. The outside of the hotel has that same feel, yet the inside looks like a good quality 4star hotel. On one side a shame, because the outside doesn't match the inside. Same goes for the hotel rooms. They are not authentic nor ambient as they claim on their website, but they are what you would expect for a conference-hotel. The room we stayed in had a slightly outdated bathroom with a show... The hotel is set at the start of the beautiful Groot Begijnhof and is set within very well cared for gardens. It was 35 degrees outside when we stayed there and there is no sir con in the reception or restaurant but the bedroom had ice cold air con which you can control with a remote control. The interior of the hotel is very modern and very clean. The staff here were polite but not friendly. The bedroom was very clean and had a lot of storage with fridge, coffee machine , trouser press and thou... Read more

I made a return visit to this hotel recently and am sorry to say compared my earlier visit about 6 years ago I was disappointed. The public areas are fine but the bed rooms need refreshing - the decoration was peeling in places, and towels and bed linens distinctly worn. Worst the heating in my room was not working. After complaining three times, I was eventually told there was a fault and given an electric heater instead.

First of all, my requirements for a hotel room are a bed I can sleep in and a decent temperature, heat in the cold season and aircon in the warm one if it's a warm place. This one did not deliver on the heat, and as it was a cold, wet October week and everyone had the coughs and sniffles, this was not nice. I had been told by a colleague that his room was icy but his extra heater worked, and when I walked into my room, it was cozy, so I did not change it although it was on the ground floor. (... I looked at the reviews here AFTER I booked to stay... and was apprehensive as I approached the hotel. Reality was so different. Maybe I lucked out... but I found the hotel perfectly fine. Check in was smooth. Not a million laughs... but perhaps that's the culture. Stayed in room 206.... perfect. Room at end of corridor, so windows on 2 sides. Flatscreen TV. Bathroom with bath. Hot water. Turned down room thermostat within first few minutes in room. WiFi was a bit spotty in my room. There was a... Read more
