What a find. Fantastic hotel on the canal. 15 mins walk to centre of brugges. Upgrade for canal view and have the water lapping at your window as the barges go past. Rooms may be small but quaint and have everything you need. How they fit everything in I don't know. Restaurant on board is ok but the breakfasts are amazing. Lots to see in brugges and a good base away from the hustle and bustle. We came by coach, eurolines, £19 each way, via the tunnel. Quick, easy and cheap. This hotel is ideal ... Read more

We stopped at De Barge Hotel, Bruges for 2 nights, 1st things 1st,the staff who looked after us were very nice, polite and helpful, The breakfast was very good with a good choice, The room was very clean, Good wifi, (if you are interested in things like that) It's a 20 minute walk into the Bruges city. Parking can be a bit of a problem, I was lucky and got to park in hotel grounds, ( only room for 2 cars). We wasn't expecting anything other than a small room, at the end of the day it's a barge,... We were so looking forward to this, staying on a Canal Boat and as our reservation stated Historical Centre of Brugge. A bit deceiving. Its at least a 15 minute walk into the centre. We had Superior cabins booked. Our friends had little to no hot water in their room above us. Just felt dark and not so comfy and for the price, we stayed at much nicer places actually in the centre of things for less. We also had the smell of diesel in our room all night. Rather sickening. The breakfast i... Read more

If you are planning to visit the beautiful old city of Bruges, then the quirky De Barge Hotel makes the perfect place to base your visit from. It is as it states a barge, so you would expect the rooms to be relatively small...but in truth we found the rooms extremely comfortable with enough room, a very comfy large bed and a powerful shower, not to mention the excellent breakfast included in the price. We were waterside looking out onto this stretch of working canal...some of the boats that pass... Read more

Cabins are clean and the big window makes them nice and light. They aren't huge but I think that is all part of staying on a boat! We had a water view which I think was preferable. Breakfast was great. Easy walk into centre through beautiful park and beside canals. A few steps / stairs so not recommended for those with walking difficulties but totally safe. Life Jackets on the beds was a fun touch.

Approach to the hotel is not the most inspiring but once inside it's lovely. Lots of character and we were really pleased with our cabin facing onto the water. The buffet breakfast was very impressive and we also enjoyed dinner there one evening. It's an easy walk into town and there are a couple of good restaurants close by too .Also, we were surprised just how close to the main station this is ( less than 5min walk ). From here it's easy to take a trip on the train to the coast and catch a tra... Read more

As hotels go, De Barge is nothing great but when you consider it's on a barge then it becomes that little bit special. When you arrive in the room you will find life jackets on the bed to remind you that you're staying on the water. It's quite stable and at no time did we feel the rocking of the waves (which was a pity :-). Situated on a river you are woken up to birds chirping. It's really peaceful here as it's quite a distance from the center of town (15-20min walk). Wifi was not good in t... Read more

We recently stayed at De Barge for a couple of nights and loved it. The location was perfect since its only a 10 minute walk to beautiful historic downtown Bruges. Breakfast was excellent and comes with a beautiful view of the canal. If you're lucky, you get to eat next to some ducks. The staff was very friendly and hard working. It felt like that one guy was there 24/7, either manning the reception or the bar. The room and bathroom were of course small (it's a boat!) but we've stayed in smaller... Read more

Stayed here for the Ex's birthday, what a great place to stay. The owner was a great host, we had Champagne on ice waiting for us when we came back from a long walk around Brugge. The food was excellent and the rooms very well appointed. Would recommend this every time.

Good location, good parking. Superior captain's cabin had nice canal view. Has all the amenities. Staff very friendly and multilingual. Breakfast was good - pleasant to watch the ducks while enjoying the meal! Probably not good for disabled as there are a few steps to go up and down, but my husband did manage on his crutches! Also dog-friendly, which was a bonus for us. Enjoyed the stay and would recommend to anyone who likes something a little different.

This is high on our list of favourite places we've stayed and were genuinely saddened to leave. The barge is extremely well kept and the attention to detail is second to none, from the anchor key ring on the room key to the life jackets on the bed. My husband is 6ft 2 and I was apprehensive that he may have struggled for head room but he was absolutely fine. We booked room 6 which is at the rear of the barge on the lower level and in my opinion the best room as has stunning views out of two l... Read more

Something really different a floating barge brilliantly converted to a hotel. The cabins are bright and light with just enough room for comfort, the en suite is small but has it all , the breakfast room / evening restaurant is a lovely area well converted and has a nice nautical theme. Breakfast is very good with a hot choice as well, In short a very good value different place to stay in a good location close to the city centre.

This is just the kind of place that I shall recommend to friends - I don't mean 'like' it on Facebook but actually suggest that they go there. You need to remember that it is a boat so the rooms are not going to be huge, we had one of the 'Officer's cabins' which was at the back (stern!) and looked out onto the canal, it had everything you need including a suprisingly good shower. It is not in the centre of the city but Bruges is not that large, and 20 minutes pleasant walk will get you to most ... Read more
