This is a good, understated hotel which is unassuming from the outside but very nice in. The Conran design shows through. The foyer is pretty with a nice courtyard and the rooms are functional but pleasant in their simplicity. Breakfast was good but more Austrian than metropolitan. The staff are excellent. In terms of location, it's close enough to be able to walk to virtually all the central sights but far enough to be quiet. Being right next to Karlplatz u bahn means you can easily get o... Read more

The interior of the hotel is very modern. We found it on the SPG site when we were stuck by a last minute change in plans. It is not a typical SPG full service hotel but never the less, it is comfortable and well situated. There are teams close by and it is just a few minutes walk from the Karlsplatz UBahn station. Another 5 minutes walk and you are at the Opera House. There is a grocery store across and down the street a block. The desk is not always manned, but there is usually someone the... Read more

The hotel was very nice - room was spacious and clean. Equipped with Apple computer. Breakfast was good, nice selection of food and fruits. Maybe one negative note, the room (first floor) was facing the main street, and the traffic noise (especially the tramway) was quite loud - no problems in the evenings, but early in the morning. Location of the hotel was perfect, near subway and tram, and about 500 meters from opera and 1km from main museums.

We arrived at 11.30 on Friday to find we had been upgraded to a junior suite which is always a nice start to a trip. As was the very powerful and hot shower before bed. The beds are firm - my wife struggled on the first night - and we faced the street and we heard the tram trundling along a few times. We live close to south west London so we are used to planes/trains making some noise at night so it didn't bother use - if you live in a place where it is quite, it might bother you. Staff are ... We spent 3 nights in a deluxe room - very spacious, light and airy, quiet and calm. A great place to relax after hectic site seeing in Vienna. just a short walk from Karl Platz and the Opera house, also near the Naashtmarkt, a fun location to eat al fresco. Excellent buffet breakfast including smoked salmon and Sekt. Only slight niggle was that sometimes the breakfast room was full and we had to stand and wait for a table. The first impression is that the Triest is old-fashioned, but it does not take long to appreciate the timelessness of Conran's design in the public areas and the rooms. It is very comfortable and the staff most helpful. The inner courtyard is a delightful place for a quiet drink, or indeed breakfast. The breakfast is really excellent including a range of breads, meats, cheese and home-made jams (raspberry is to die for). The location is very convenient for a tourist. Stayed here again for the 4th time I think. This time I got a nice, actually huge apartment at the end of the hallway which meant that this time I had comfort and also quiet room, no more sleepless nights due to high heals banging on the tiles. Breakfast is really good, staff is mega friendly, location is excellent. The issue with the shower still exists, and it is the case in many rooms as my friends also said the same thing. I checked in on Monday July 4th late evening and was disappointed by several things: - No SPG number in the system --> did not catch my Platinium level - Reception was barely welcoming, did not try to make any effort - Room 602, although very nice and clean,is too small. When I asked for a better one they could only offer a room without AC (does this still exist in a 4* hotel?), moreover hard to beleive that the hotel was full - Finally, no free bottle of water in the room, everything is charged... The hotel is nice enough (well, except that there is annoying, noisy construction on one of the wings of it during the day). My bigger issue is it promoted as part of Starwood, and I learned about it and made my reservations via SPG. Unfortunately, SPG and Das Trieste are just loose partners, didn't communicate about my needs, and I ended up getting billed extra (without warning) when I arrived because we needed a cot (a charge SPG had assured me would not be the case). Then, Das Trieste did... Read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but once inside it is very pleasant, with rooms set around the courtyard. Unfortunately there was a major construction going on whilst we were there, which meant it wasn't very pleasant to relax in after a day's sight-seeing. I was travelling with my elderly mother, so we needed to be able to rest. All the rooms have double beds, but they made up a single temporary bed for me, which was very comfortable. Firstly, we received an email from the hotel a week before our stay to inform us that they could not accommodate us on our first night due to construction works, which they claimed we had been informed of at that time of booking. The main problem you may learn from other reviews is the noise brought by the ongoing construction work, and I can reconfirm this is really a problem. Actually, the construction work is not a tiny maintenance but a major upgrade, they are building a new building. As a member of SPG's Design Hotel Group, this property doesn't "fit" into a classic chain hotel brand - and I've enjoyed Design Hotels in other cities (notably 11 Mirrors in Kiev), and in Vienna Das Triest is fine. Lovely city; elegant comfortable hotel. It's position close to Karlsplatz meant you were a short walk from the attractions of central Vienna. Large modern impressive rooms and helpful friendly staff added to the positive impression. The only reason this review is not 5* is the refurb the building is going through. This is being very well managed, is not intrusive ( ends at 16.00 hours ) , so that 99% of the time you are unaware of anything going on at all. A really enjoyable stay.
