We stayed in a junior suite which was fabulously spacious with great decor. Breakfast was delicious with a local specialit and really friendly service. It had all the amenities of a grand hotel without the stuffiness.

Close to city centre friendly helpful staff. Beautiful room lovely bed, gorgeous breakfasts and afternoon tea with cake each day. Seven days we spent thoroughly enjoying ourselves. Staff went out of their way to show us where to find a variety of good eating places and assisted us in our visits.

I'm usually not a fan of 'arty' hotels. Most European Capitals seems to have them and they are usually shambolic, uncomfortable and 'amateurish'. However the Hotel Altstadt stands above the crowd because it houses the owners rich and eclectic art collection. Paintings, photos and sculptures adorn the rooms which are spread out over a few floors of a Viennese apartment house. Breakfast was a classy continental offering with good breads, freshly squeezed juices and a really good selection of teas... Read more

The Hotel Altstadt is tries really hard to deliver a unique, quirky experience in its art filled rooms and corridors. Some of the people staffing the reception desk were brilliantly helpful while others were indifferent. The restaurant was about the same. Great poached eggs one morning and the next morning's cook served something that seemed to have been meant for egg drop soup. The management seems to rely on personality rather than designing consistently superior experience. Another exam... Read more

We were 2 couples staying at this wonderful property in May 2016. On reception, Elena was there to welcome us and was very helpful and polite. We got a free upgrade to white Suite and Camila Suite which were both very good. The salon room in the property is very cozy and comfortable. We really enjoyed the home-made cake and tea in the evenings. There is limited option for vegetarian people in the breakfast and I suggest that the hotel starts some hot potato items like hashbrown. All in all a won... Read more

This is a boutique hotel and pleasantly quirky. The rooms are large and every minute detail of the guests is taken care of by the staff. We had a pleasant interaction with Elena who helped us in every possible manner. From the surprise stuffed toy for our 4 year old son to gifting a farewell wafer bar, to helping find tourist destinations and to even help get an electric kettle for the room, she ensured that our stay was as memorable as possible. The elaborate breakfast spread is to die for! Pi... Read more

We were fortunate to be staying on the 25th anniversary of the hotel. Testament to the staff that the hotel is so well loved by everyone that stays, that over 300 people turned out for the celebration. The rooms are very individual and of a high standard, with the art work throughout the hotel making you feel more at home than a hotel.

We stayed in Saskia Suite and loved the space and feel of it. The staff are so friendly, especially the breakfast staff. We loved all the different little salon rooms for breakfast which ensured that it never felt busy. The tea and cake in the afternoon is a lovely touch when you need a rest after a busy day before getting ready to go out. Thank you Hotel Altstadt

Room was very nice and the hotel had everything just outstanding especially the staff that were just SUPER. We would not only recommend but whenever we come to Vienna will stay there. The building is historic and the location is very close to major landmarks.

Elegant hotel in great location with warm, friendly and kind staff. Quiet, uniquely furnished rooms which give a sense of living in Vienna rather than staying in a hotel.Great location for walking to main sights.

Although this review is VERY past due...The beautiful Hotel Altstadt in Vienna has been on our minds since our fabulous stay last March 2016. We (family of 5 -- parents, 21 year old college student and two 18 year olds) could not say enough good things about our stay at the Hotel Alstadt. From the moment we checked in until the moment we left (stayed 3 nights) we enjoyed every aspect of the hotel and it's wonderful staff and especially the owner, Otto. Absolutely everything/everyone made our ... Read more

The best restaurants are often distinguished by having real flowers in and around the place. This is an indication of how much passion they have for what they do; if they can only be bothered to have plastic flowers then the same "that'll do" attitude normally extends to the food but if they care enough to have real flowers, well... you get the picture. Hotel Altstadt goes to the trouble of having fresh flowers in the guest rooms and even in the elevator! The hotel is also stuffed with works of... Read more

If you want to try something different, then this place is for you - located in an ancient mansion, the owners have managed to give to this beautiful hotel an atmosphere of its own: both chic, trendy and vintage. It's a mix between modern design and amenities, and old, historical house - and the blend is just perfect. The lobby and main entrance are quite beautiful and modern - smiling, professional, efficient staff. Actually the house seems to be huge - but it the morning for breakfast, it sti... Read more

We were really looking forward to staying at this hotel, which we booked through the SLH (Small Luxury Hotels) website. The sales pitch for SLH is that members get free room upgrades 'when available' but - just like all the other 7 or 8 SLH hotels we have stayed at over the last few years, Altstadt didn't offer us one either. The room we got was clean and comfortable but nothing special at all. It had a 'courtyard' view - in fact a view of a roof over what is presumably a courtyard, otherrwi... Read more

Spent 4 nights at the hotel. Beautiful clean room. Delicious buffet breakfast with freshly made omelettes. The nicest most helpful staff that always had a smile and eager to assist with anything you needed. The location is great, approx 7 min walk to the subway and museum quarter, and in a beautiful quiet area with great restaurants and cafes. A special hotel with wonderful atmosphere and great staff!!! To sum it up- it was perfect!

I loved everything about this hotel, the building is gorgeous. It is a boutique hotel and there is a very personal touch to every room you enter. The check in was handled in a friendly way from taking your information to showing you around and bringing you to your room. Rooms are all different in decor, modern and functional with good layout but the importance of good mattress crisp clean sheets and duvet can not be stressed enough when your out all day sight seeing and you return at the end of ... This is an amazing place - the building is straight out of a 40s film noir but with contemporary art - even a Warhol! The reception is on the second floor and the staff are extremely helpful. Our room was perhaps a little small but well presented with an excellent bathroom . Located near the museum quarter , most of central Vienna is accessible from here on foot . Would recommend taking up some of their restaurant suggestions too. Breakfast choice is outstanding and they even provide free aftern... Read more

Three of us stayed at the Hotel Altstadt booking a two bedroom suite for three nights. The hotel is lovely and rather unique in it's design and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is included and is a nice spread of juices, teas, cereals, breads, cold meats, cheeses and a hot option as well. The rooms are nicely decorated with nice products in the bathroom, which is a good size. The lounge area is really lovely with a really comfortable Chesterfield and a couple of armchairs as w... This hotel is a must stop for art lovers. Every inch of it is covered in contemporary paintings and photography. It's very obvious that this is a labor of love for the owners and staff. The room was spacious, the bed so good I didn't want to get out. The breakfast buffet is a mix of continental and Viennese treats--you will never find a better selection of muesli. The staff couldn't have been more helpful with directions around the city and suggesting stops and points of interest. I'm a messy, ... Read more

Well situated hotel, which was almost faultless. Nice staff, quick check in, well designed and appointed room. The only real negative was that the two bedroom we rented had a layout of lounge, bedroom 1, bedroom 2, bathroom and then toilet. So getting to the bathroom from lounge and first bedroom meant going through 2nd bedroom.

Arriving at the hotel on Sunday morning we got a very warm welcome by Jaqueline. We were lucky and were able to check into our room. "Helgas Room" is a stunning room with high ceilings, well chosen cream colour decor and large windows with flower boxes. After a busy day out we enjoyed the comp tea and homemade cake in the lounge. If only all hotels could be like this one, the most civilised hotel I've ever stayed in, simply didn't want to leave we felt so at home. Worth visiting Vienna just to stay in the Altstadt. Beautifully decorated and presented with a perfect ambience and amazing staff. You couldn't ask for a better breakfast which was served until 11.00 in a selection of beautifully furnished rooms. This hotel is in a good location a couple blocks from Hofburg Palace and museums. It is historic yet inside has all the modern touches. Breakfast was excellent with fruits, cereals, breads and lunch meats. It was possible to get something to eat at 6am for those with an early flight which I really liked. We didn't have to go to airport hungry. They also have a tea and cake brunch around 4 pm which is nice. Beds were comfortable. Good sized rooms. Staff is kind and very knowledgeable, will...
