I like quite a few things about The Menzies. First, the staff are great, efficient and friendly. Second, I can see that The Menzies has a clear view about what it is and what it does. And it does it very well. Comfortable rooms in the centre of Sydney. Tourists can get to the harbour and lots of locations very fast. Business travellers who need to get to the suburbs can check into Wynyard station in moments. I like this hotel, have stayed many times and love it!

I've stayed here on and off for the past 17 years - usually when preferred other alternatives are unavailable. It's perfect for location but sub-standard for quality and comfort. The rooms are tiny, old and outdated and my room this time overlooked the bus stop opposite the hotel. It's budget, not beautiful but great for accessibility.

I did enjoy my stay at Menzies, but this was mainly due to the Bar, and Restaurant. The Room although I was provided an upgrade, was very old and tired. The rooms need a make over, to bring them out of 1980. The check in, and check was great, drink voucher, breakfast was really good too!

The place is not flash and is quite run down. Bed was adequate while bathroom was not. It would be good if you were short to suit shower height. Bar was quite good. Staff service orientation was the highlight of our stay and quite attentive. Great location next to train station and at ricks end if city. Walking distance to bridge.

I stayed here for one night whilst in town for a work meeting. There were a few things that could improve. This sounds really silly but the TV remote was really dodgy and didn't work constantly. that was frustrating. There was no temperate control in the room that I could control like an air conditioner and I woke up a few times during the night feeling hot. The rooms were a little dated but extremely comfortable , the size was huge for an inner city hotel , the bed was lovely and there was a ... Read more

We stayed here as part of our tour, so we did not choose it ourselves; however, it was very convenient to the CBD, especially the Opera House (we were close enough to be able to walk back to our hotel from the harbor area before dinner to freshen up, then head back down there for dinner and a play at the Opera House). The breakfasts were all good, and the staff was very attentive and cooperative as well. No complaints at all with this accommodation, and I would recommend it, even though realiz... Read more

What a wonderful experience didn't expect much as it was a package deal. The staff especially Andrew the chief concierge, were delightful we felt that they knew us personally. The rooms were clean, housekeeping was a little disappointing as bins weren't emptied and bathroom items not replenished. We ate at the Platform Rum food excellent and good sizes and the barman was so friendly and helpful. The Piano Bar was another experience we enjoyed the atmosphere and the people there. I stayed at the Menzies 50 years ago with my Father when it just opened and they have retained the elegance of that era. Service , location and facilities were all ideal. Incredibly welcoming staff. I was in the older part but room was simple, lovely and quiet! Also comfortably warm! If you want value for $$$ - I definitely recommend. Brilliant location !

Stayed 2 nights for Vivid Sydney. Staff here are excellent, particularly the concierge staff, Andrew In particular was excellent, so helpful, nothing too much trouble. Great location, within walking distance to all attractions and shops. Can't wait for my next visit to Sydney and will definitely be staying here again.

We had a really great two nights with our friends over the vivid festival. A good family place, maybe not so ideal for couples. We had 5 kids between 5 to 11, so found the place to be really good. It's very well located. Pool was good. Bffet was great for breakfasts with kids. Staff are really friendly and accommodating. The rooms seem to vary in size. Room 129 seemed larger than our friends. The decor is outdated, almost a period setting! Buffet food quality was average and coffee machine ... Read more

I stayed at the Menzies for 4 nights by myself, and I have to say to people complaining about the view from your rooms - why don't you get out and explore the city? I couldn't believe how central it was. Within walking distance to all the major Sydney sights. I loved walking around the city and beyond. I missed out on other sights but I will absolutely be back next year. I stayed in 817. I did ask for an upgrade to a king room with a park view but due to my early check in, this room was avail... Menzies is a very good and comfortable hotel in the medium price range. It is not glamorous, rather older and quite well appointed for a stay in Sydney. The staff are always helpful and pleasant and they will go out of their way to be of assistance. We have always found them really good at helping us find our way around Sydney, be it for buses to outer suburbs or ferries to Harbour sites etc. The breakfasts at Menzies are magnificent and the little bistro on the ground floor is very adequate fo... Really loved the location, easy walking to wharf or shopping. Wynyard station is just on doorstep, bus station right at the front. However, if driving a car, overnight parking is $50. The room at the menzies itself is rather old, the corridor is already showing its age, but no complain as I was using free night from AccorPlus. The room would normally cost around $170/night for the two double beds which could accomodate two adults and two kids, and I think is still quite a good value for money f... Read more

Well appointed & convenient to public train transport in central Sydney. Great for the traveller as just 2 minutes walk from airport train. Short walk (or 1 stop train) north to either Circular Quay or south to Town Hall precincts. Standard hotel room with large king bed. Only disappointment was the downstairs bar that wasn't over the weekends.

Families are the big winners when they stay at the Menzies Sydney, in14 Carrington Street. Young children are made to feel special with individual gifts that make their eyes shine! You also enjoy one of the best locations in the city ‚?? in the heart of the CBD, near iconic attractions such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Darling Harbour precinct, The Rocks and the Royal Botanic Gardens. A big winner is that it's also close to Wynyard station. You won‚??t regret it!

For the money, this hotel is a let down. The TV appears to be from the 1990's and needs a "rabbit ears" aerial to fix the picture. I didn't think analogue TV still existed ! The air conditioning looks like it has not been updated since the 1920's and is very inefficient - too hot. Some parts of the hotel were looking a bit tired but facilities certainly made up for it - quiet room, good breakfast, very comfortable beds and pillows, very well positioned to walk and /or take public transport as just opposite Wynyard Station. Stayed in a room on the 12th floor for one night last week, the floor was called the Executive floor, I don't know if that makes the room any different to rooms on other floors. The room was clean and had a small round table with two chairs and a desk with a single chair, it had a really comfortable double bed with nice linen. Location is the best part about this hotel - you are nice and central and close to the train station with regular taxi's available out the front.
