Easy to find by car, no problem in dropping off luggage and parking is just around the corner (at $40 per night). All staff very friendly and helpful. Nice lobby, although a bit more seating space would be handy. We were upgraded to a 10th (top) floor room with harbour views and free wifi (which is, sadly, not standard). Breakfast was slightly above the usual buffet average. The building has character: built in the 1890s as a government office. As other reviewers have noted, location is perfect ... Read more

We recently travelled to Sydney for a wedding and found this hidden gem by chance. On special for 30 minutes on a web site we grabbed it and it was great. If you are flying in the airport train will drop you at circular quay which is only a 3 minute walk away or it's an easy run in a taxi or car. Walking into the hotel via the red carpet on the footpath you are greeted by a wombat with a top hat! All the staff were extremely welcoming and check in was a breeze. Long term friend and I both love extremely classy hotels and having High Tea in them. Today she and I had a very agreeable time in the Sir Stamford in Macquarie Street. I was greeted by charming Harry. As I waited for my friend Maureen to arrive I looked at the splendid variety of teas available and the food that we were to be served. When Maureen arrived Harry opened the champagne with a flourish and within a very short while there was a three tiered selection of goodies, both savoury and sw... Read more

My partner and I stayed here for two nights and were pleasantly surprised. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful, above and beyond the call of duty. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and we loved the clean 4-piece bathroom. Great location, steps away from the waterfront. If you want an old-school, cosy, well-priced, and welcoming stay whole you're in Sydney, this is a very good place to consider!!

This hotel oozes old world charm of the Art Deco era. Beautiful fire place in the lobby. I stayed in room 208 which was very spacious and had a large lounge room and bedroom with a decent sized bathroom, hall and powder room. The only negative was the car park. The lift was out of order which meant we had to haul luggage up stairs then walk in the pouring rain to access the hotel... My wife and I stayed here for a night during Vivid. When I checked in it was gently pointed out to me that I had in fact booked for the wrong month when I sent an email the week prior. The front desk and duty manager quickly helped me out and I was checked into a suite a short time later. This was fantastic service considering how busy they were. Sir Stamford hotel has the conservative ambience of yesteryear. Quiet, calm, polite atmosphere meant all aspects of check in and out were easy and smooth. Room was just above main entrance but as quiet as could be - slept through to 8.30am without a blink! Room was roomy and comfortable if a little dated.

Good sized rooms, nice bathrooms and very clean. Thank goodness for a place that supplies a decent number of coathangers and has some drawers to put underwear, etc into! An old fashioned hotel with a bit of character and good service. However why can't ALL hotels just provide free wifi these days?

Pleasant place, close in to CBD and Circular Quay. Room was large. Sitting room seemed pleasant, but I didn't have the opportunity to enjoy it. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Had a good sleep. My only "gripe" is that the room was a little dark in the evening, even with all the lights on - but this seems to be common in a lot of hotels I have stayed in.

Can't argue with the great location, and the staff were really friendly, but this place is in serious need of an interior makeover. It's easy to see what they are trying to do, trying to make the most of the formerly grand bones of the building, but it could very easily be refreshed, and made much nicer, with a decent paint job and general tidy up. Also loses a star for wi-fi not coming standard with the room. This day and age, in a first world country, that should just be part of the package.

I was given a huge suite which was nice but it was cold and took ages to heat up because it was so large. Restaurant was closed on a Monday night which I thought was poor, the in-room dining was awful - bad food, small amounts, and I had to call down to ask them to bring up some salt. The in-room dining menu only applied 11am-11pm and then there was a very limited selection outside those times. I could not get a pre-packed breakfast to go to the airport with before 6.30am either. We have been staying on and off at the Sir Stamford for several years and have given glowing reports on the hotel. Under the manager Heather it was top-notch, tightly run and any problems were efficiently dealt with - not that there were many. Unfortunately, this didn't seem to be the case these last couple of years. A reason, as told to us by staff, was that the manager was having to commute between several hotels. The impression of staying in stately home with the newspapers on the sideboard, the couches in conversation groups off the foyer were complimented by the staff and their interactions which were so welcoming. The bedroom provided the space for the large king size bed and was complimented by the lounge and easy chair positioned in front of the window where you could sit and look out to the park across the road. In addition the desk for that little catch up after work was just perfect. What a refr... Read more

The room was a balcony overlooking the harbour. It was wonderful to look out and see the cruise liner in the harbour that we were about to spend the next eight days on. The piano and live music was great and breakfast well worth it. Very clean and great service. Will stay there again.

Horrible, very noisy. Walls are thin. Was woken up by the person next door urinating in their toilet. No blowdryer in the bathroom?? What the?? A view of nothing but walls of the building next door. Was supposed to stay 2 nights, stayed for one night. Never again.

B'fast chef perhaps would do better to focus on guests cooked breakfast rather than taking deliveries at 9 am midweek. However, ambience nice also convenient location to Opera House, ferries, Library, museum, The Rocks, Botanic Gardens, The Mint

Stayed at the Sir Stamford for a long weekend in Sydney and couldn't really fault it. Great online rates for a 5 star hotel within walking distance of the Sydney Opera House and Circular Quay. The hotel ambience is old style boutique, with original designs, which added to the charm. Not one of the new sterile looking hotels. Stayed in a suite which was very spacious and had a juilette balcony.with glimpses of the harbour. Also the room had free wifi which worked well. Service at the hotel was im... Read more

We have travelled extensively and have come to the conclusion that it is the hotel staff that make or break a stay. The staff at the Sir Stamford were exceptional and nothing was too much for them. The location is good and the décor makes you feel like you are in a stately English home.

Location can hardly be beat. The only small complaint is that they really should provide USB charging stations in the room or at least a supplied power adapter. I was mildly put off by the only option being to purchase an adapter for $20. For tea drinkers, the kettle and tea bags in the room is a very nice perk. Other than that an excellent four nights in SYD.

We have stayed in this hotel several times over the years and have never been disappointed. The Position is perfect for access to cCircular Quay and The Rocks and a short 10min walk into the shopping district. The valet parking is reasonably priced, much cheaper than the Intercontinental on the same block. The breakfast is nice and also well priced although I don't think we should be charged extra for a long black as a specialty coffee. The high tea is a lovely thing to do with our daughters! Th... Great, easy check-in. A beautiful surprise when you walk in off Macquarie Street. I'd seen photos, but it's much better. Beautiful old paintings & interior fittings in the main reception room. Gorgeous fire place. Iced water with orange slices... newspapers, beautiful China cabinets with porcelain collections. Wonderful old masters style, paintings on the walls. Fresh apples in bowls on every floor. Gorgeous China cabinets too. Magnificent, 'antique' brass candle sconces on the walls. Beautiful ... Read more

Very well located above Circular Quay and the Opera House this hotel proved be every bit as good as I hoped from the internet photos. The staff were very friendly and helpful and offered advice as to the things to do and see in the city. Our room had a partial view of the Quay, was nicely appointed and of good size with an impressive marble bathroom. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice available to suit most tastes. I can also recommend dinner at the hotel restaurant in particular the stea... Read more

This is our 18th visit and it does get better every time. We especially like the Bar with its ambience and service. The location just off Circular Quay where there is a rail station taking you direct to the airport. There is a small glass lift just as you turn onto Circular Quay which saves you walking up the hill - look for it.

The NPCAA conference was held in the lobby on level 3. This made it unpleasant for guests to leave and enter their rooms. Not a good idea! My wife was not involved in the meetings. I would not recommend this in the future.

Our room was beautiful and spacious, just as in the picture, although only one person at a time on the balcony. The hotel is located conveniently near Circular Quay but positioned so it is quiet and private. Don't bother taking the car, you are less than a block from the ferries and the train. perfect place for a couple's weekend away.

Myself and a couple of friends stayed here for a night's stay-cation and can not rate this hotel highly enough. Compared to other 5 star hotels in the city, it can not be beaten. There were 3 of us in the room and when we checked in our third bed wasn't in the room. We called reception and it was brought to our room within minutes. The gentleman who brought it for us also brought additional toiletries, towels, additional glasses and filled our ice bucket for us. The third bed was great - exact s... Read more

Gorgeous boutique hotel which was so close to everything iconic in Sydney. Our room was so spacious and comfortable, it felt like a home away from home instead of the usual box. Staff were wonderful- friendly and professional, Wish we'd had more time to enjoy the facilities. Looking forward to enjoying a high tea when we return next year!

Entering the Sir Stamford feels like time has stood still with all the luxury and charm of yesteryear. A feeling of comfort and quiet away from the hustle and bustle that is often found in the new hotels. Situated in a perfect location to access the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Botanic Gardens, Circular Quey - all only a few minutes walk away. Definitely will return and highly recommend to anyone travelling to Sydney.
