Stayed for 2 nights over the weekend, with a girlfriend. Had 2 single beds, but they don't seem to have sheets that fit single beds, which is odd. Very large room, very friendly at check in. Room was clean, had a fridge and a kitchenette. Didn't have a shower cap in the bathroom, which is always handy to have! No view from the window but it was quiet. Has an indoor heated pool and a sauna, but there are so many things to do in Melbourne we didn't get to try them out. Nice clean hotel, with goo... Read more

We had a nice, clean room with kitchenette comprising small fridge, m/w and two hot plates. The bathroom was also clean and adequate. The hotel has a restaurant where breakfast is available, although we didn't use it. It is located about halfway between the Bourke Street Mall and the Southern Cross Station close to Collins Street so there are plenty of trams nearby. A major benefit of staying at any Oaks in Melbourne is the very good shuttle service to the airport.....ask at reception.

Location is convenient for Melbourne CBD but in a smaller side street which makes it slightly quieter. Have stayed here a couple of times now and would recommend if after a simple, clean hotel at a reasonable price for Melbourne. Can't comment on dining.

This was a great location for a romantic city getaway. We walked everywhere. Didn't need the hire car that stayed parked in the nearby undercover car park at $10 per day (special hotel rate). The only thing that let the whole stay down was the cleanliness of the room. Just slap dash bed making and daily attention to detail missing. Did let reception know on the 3rd day and there was a little improvement. Otherwise a perfect experience. Also WIFI only free for one hour per day.

Great location in Melbourne CBD with easy walking distance to shopping malls and cafes. The unit we stayed at was spacious and came with equipped kitchens. Staff are friendly too. The only thing that let the experience down was the cleanliness of the rooms and paid wifi.

The location is fantastic, a short walk to Bourke St mall, Crown and central to the CBD. Downstairs the restaurant is not too bad, the furniture there doesn't quite match how nice the newer bar area is our front. Certainly worth sticking around for a beer or two to meet friends there. The downside of the place is more the rooms. I'm not sure what it is with Melb hotels (this would now be the third) and persisting with the shower/bath combo. No one over about 10 years of age could possible use i... Read more

I stayed four nights for a conference. It was a good location - 10min walk to South Bank / MECC and 10mins to a lot of great places to eat or shop in the city. Right next to trams on Collins Street. The room was big and had the necessities as well as being nice a quiet. It is functional but not flash. I'd consider it in the future.

Great location for both access to Southbank attractions like the casino, and the CBD. Staff are friendly and competent, the on-site restaurant is very handy for when your feet are just too tired to go out AGAIN! Had a two bedroom apartment, living space was generous. Sliding obscured glass doors on the bedrooms may not afford enough privacy for occupants that are not family. Some fittings looking a little tired, poor water pressure in the shower and TV remotes that don't work, or are not th... Read more

We visited Melbourne during the Australian open. The hotel was a 15-20 minute walk from the Rod Laver Arena. The hotel staff helped us and saved us a cool AUD 60+ for suggesting that we walk as against taking a cab. There are some rooms which apparently face the river, but we didn't get those. If you want a great view then maybe this is not the hotel for you. But, if you want something that is located in a prime area from where other points are easier to reach, this is the place. The haze of the tile dust slowly cleared to make clear that a path to reception was possible through the lines of yellow and black tape. The piercing squeals of the angle grinders cut through the air with ear piercing acuity. I joined the line of people monotonously waiting for their turn to be seen by reception. The lady in front of me was taking an eternity to get her point across. Eventually, my turn came ‚??Yes‚?? said the officious looking gentleman. I have a reservation for two nights at G... Read more

The staff are warm and friendly and the rooms are modern in design and spacious. Rooms have all the essentials. There is a nice bar and restaurant downstairs and the food is great (same goes for the room service menu). If I had one gripe, it would be the showers at the hotel are a bit pathetic and it takes twice as long to shower.

This will be a mixed review as there were some good points and some not so good points about this property. We booked 4 nights in a one bedroom apartment as we were visiting our daughter who lives in Melbourne. We stayed at the end of June. After I had booked and paid, I realised that I could have gotten a discount through the entertainment book. When I rang back they said that although you normally have to book through their website, they would give me the discount. That was really appreci... Read more

Great location - everything is accessible with the Tram Stop less than 100m away. The rooms were nicely appointed, but the lighting was poor. Coming in at night, I didnt' have enough light in the hall way to see the aircon panel. One plug in the whole room, and it was too big for the bath, so pretty useless. Black grime on inside bottom of the shower screen. Yes, I'm sure I could have reported all these things and had them sorted, but you know - when I make it back to my room, I don't want ... Read more

I can't complain on the service of the staff as they were great. The food downstairs in the bar was good value and pleasant. Location was within walking distance of most places. However the room and the value for money was awful. Over $200 a night, we stayed 3 nights in a studio apartment. The 'fresh' towels and linen smelt like pure vinegar. Oaks on Market is in an unbeatable location right in the centre of Melbourne. We had a city view room and this had nice views over Southbank. The room was fine but looks like a much older building that was renovated a while ago and needs a fresh update. We have previously stayed at Oaks on William and it was lovely, so I expected a similar standard from Oaks on Market. Staff were lovely but the bathroom was grotty, with mould in the grout on floor and walls and a shower curtain with mould around the hem. We also went to very good restaurants all within the CBD and tram rides in CBD are free. Some colleagues go to Crown to take a look at the world renowned casino. Centrally located and reasonably modern the Oaks on Market is worthy of consideration if you are looking for a fairly priced functional room in the CBD. I liked the spacious reception and bar on the ground floor. I also liked the well sized room, comfortable bed and that I couldn't hear any noise from adjoining rooms. The buffet breakfast was pretty good as well. The kitchenette was on the tokenistic size and of limited functionality. Paid wifi available. I didn't like the shower and bath ... Read more

When we arrived at the hotel, no one was willing to help us right away and the staff didn't feel warm and welcoming. Our room looked much different than it had on the photos. The room overall felt dirty and the sofa and shelves were covered in dust. I ordered an apple crumble from room service once and I was not very pleased. However the location is nice and you will probably be too busy exploring Melbourne to sit in your room all day, so it was fine in the end.

We stayed for a Sunday and Monday night and only paid $120/night - good value at that price we found, especially given its great location. Unfortunately we received a rather dubious 'upgrade' to a one bedroom apartment from a studio, which unfortunately had a very strange layout wrapped around the lifts - some of the noisiest I have ever come across.
