I visited the Holiday Inn for a single night as a solo traveler the night before an early morning flight out of Cairns. The hotel lobby and room were both clean and fairly recently remodeled. The room had all of the amenities that are common to American hotels, such as toiletries, refrigerator, hair dryer etc. An electric tea kettle with tea and instant coffee were provided (customary in Australia), but as a bonus compared to other hotels there was actually a carton of milk in the refrigerator... This hotel is pretty run down but the reception staff were first class during our stay. Rooms had not been serviced properly and were very ill-equipped and tired. Breakfast was pretty good, standard Holiday Inn fare, but the service in the restaurant was poor; tables not cleared and reset etc. The name is very deceptive too. If you need/want to be near the harbour to catch boat somewhere, do a dinner cruise etc you need to be aware that it's a fairly long walk (although a pleasant one) to t... Read more

Yes it is a hike to town and the harbour but they run a shuttle hourly. As staying only overnight we dined in hotel for dinner and breakfast and it was brilliant, getting a discount because we were there before 6.30pm. Very happy with service in hotel and restaurant and everything was clean. A comment said it was run-down but I certainly didn't find that at all.

The hotel is located at a best place little far from CBD even though they have a free pick up service they don't have a dedicated person I was really upset with that type of behaviour. And their restaurant is also very cozy and less choice especially for vegetarians

Holiday Inn have taken over the Mercure. This is an old building but IHG are renovating and getting it up to class. Needs new beds and the bathrooms updating but the towels and pillows were are new and 6 star. Soft and fluffy towels and good choice of pillows Not sure if all wi fi is free but definitely if one is a member of of Priority Club or IHG Staff could not have been more helpful. Breakfast typical Hotel Buffet. Good choice.

My recent trip to Cairns was very busy. Seeing friends, eating out and doing things from morning to night. Needed a good night sleep and the comfy bed was just the ticket. The only issue was being able to hear when the people in the next room got up early in the morning (5amish) and did basic things like walked to the bathroom, close the door and had showers.Think there needs to be some insulation for noise reduction to make this place more user friendly.

This hotel was fantastic, the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Of particular note was Dean in restaurant/bar. He made great efforts to ensure that any and all dietary restrictions were accommodated. Additionally the patio/pool have a fantastic view of the ocean and are a real treat to relax at after a long day in the sun.

No problems with reception, our room had a nice view of ocean from balcony. As it had been a long day, we decided on room service for our evening meal - that's when it all went sour. We attempted to order from the menu, but was told what we wanted is not on the menu at all, upon replying that I could see it in front of me, I was told that I was wrong. The staff make this place great. Special thanks to Emma, Emma and Sophia for driving us around in the shuttle bus, booking our tours, supplying endless beach towels and pouring me a wine at the end of the day. It is a quiet hotel. It is close to the airport with occasional aircraft noise, but all hotels in Cairns city would be the same in this regard.

Recently taken over by IHG this Holiday Inn is not easy walking from the centre of Cairns and is better served if you have a car. They do have an hourly shuttle to help solve this issue. I was lucky to get upgraded to one of the rooms facing the Esplanade which was very pleasant indeed. The restaurant and trace bar provide a friendly relaxing place to eat and drink if you don't want to go into town.
