I have stayed in many hotel's all over the world but this hotel comes top of the tree , mainly the staff are fantastic nothing to much trouble and have to mention Abraham one of the porters friendly and so helpful also the Desk staff again nothing to much trouble. The travel Desk in the hotel was run by a lady called Sue who made our holiday a dream come true by organising excursions that were to fit me and my wife .

My husband and I visited Australia this May for the first time, and had one night in Cairns. We thought we'd "splurge" for the one night there and stay at this hotel which is right on the water. The location was great, but the hotel itself was average. We stayed in two other properties while visiting Australia and by far this was the least impressive, and it was the most expensive. We decided to stay in an ocean facing room, and the view was nice, but the bed was not super comfortable, the b... Read more

We stayed here on a recent trip to a scuba live aboard. On the 2nd half of our stay I was the VIP of the day which included a upgrade to an ocean view. The view from the oceanside room was gorgeous. The building's exterior and the rooms show signs of aging. My toilet intake line leaked. My ceiling had water stains from previous leaks. There were areas of mold in the corners of the room. The best feature is the location. However, a friend stayed in another facility just 250 m down the esplanade. He had the same convenient location for half the price.

Have been staying at Double Tree Cairns regularly over the last few months, for work. After staying at other hotels in Cairns, situated in the same area, I have found this to be the best place to stay overall. There is a great balance between value and quality of facilities and service offered.

We are frequent visitors to Cairns and always end our holiday with a stay at the Double tree. I was a little disappointed when they took over from the Holiday Inn but I think this time they have upped their game. We arrived at 10.30 not expecting early check in but room was ready. We had one of the better ocean view rooms. Yes the traffic can be a bit noisy but nearly every hotel on the Esplanade experiences this. We visited Cairns, just as many do, to access the Great Barrier Reef. It was a very short 15 minute ride from the CNS airport, and maybe 25 AUD for a maxi cab for 5. When we arrived we quickly realized that this hotel was located perfectly on the water, and very well kept. There was a beautiful garden courtyard in the middle that you walk through to access the rooms. The staff at check-in were VERY pleasant, and very eager to help with anything at all. This is the former Holiday Inn and is being improved daily to meet the Hilton standard. The new manager, David Harper, is really on the ball and, although the staff are friendly and very helpful, they are not yet quite tuned in to the Hilton mindset. The room was immaculate and the view was superb. The gardens are a credit to the gardener and the self-service laundromat is excellent for long stayers. The first week of September was a good choice weather wise, after a long cold winter in Sydney. Our travel agent's choice to book us into a package at the Hilton was ideal. Some sun, some rest, some day tours out, including the Reef, Crocodile Farm, Daintree and Kuranda and always a wonderful breakfast to start the day. ps, a guest laundry available

Good: - great location - Friendly staff - breakfast good healthy selection - laundry facilities - 'Sue' at the travel desk is a gem! Super helpful w advise and recommendation of sights. - underground parking - supply towels for day trips - wine shop was very handy. Bad: - gym is sparse and dated - pool is tiny - the internet is terrible in the room. Keeps dropping out and asking for login details. - parking for guest is $6 per day

I was just a little disappointed with this experience as we paid quite a bit more than other hotels in the area because we thought we were getting the typical Double Tree. This is more like a days inn in my experience and a subpar Double Tree. It was clean and the staff were great but the value was low.

This hotel is perfectly located with great views and access to a multitude of dining opportunities. The rooms are first rate and the staff could not be friendlier or more professional. The quickly took care of every request I had (and I had several). They called to make sure everything was up to our expectations and went out of their way to make sure it was. I could not have had a better hotel experience in Cairns.

Doubletree is quirky hotel in terms of design, which is an attraction in itself. However, that leads to a lot of walking to the lifts. The interiors are stunning with superb landscaping. Don't miss the fish feeding they do in their mini aquarium. Front desk is very efficient. TV doesn't give many options for viewing and wi-fi is not free. Some improvements in F&B would be great. The bar was somewhat impersonal and not really inviting. Typical hotel syndrome. We only had breakfast in the restaurant and it just needs someone with an eye for detail. I expected more from a Doubletree Hilton. The rooms were pretty small and run down, and very basic, lacking some of the basic amenities you expect to find in a hotel. Also, it's an old property I guess so I didn't find it very tastefully done. Old shaky elevators, stained corridor floors, super tiny washroom with no shower cubicle so it was all wet floored when you shower, which is pretty disappointing for me. We took advantage of their early booking package and could not have been more surprised by the value and the view from our expansive balcony. The hotel surrounds an open "lobby" area of water features and tropical plants with plenty of places to simply sit, relax, and take in the surroundings.
