We stayed here for 6 nights while discovering the city. You can walk to loads of attractions from here, SUBTE is right outside the door. If you are looking for a no frills budget type hotel this is a good option. Clean beds, good shower and our room was amazingly quiet. Gave us a 2 hour extended check-out, breakfast had some great fresh fruit salad - lots of bread type options but I don't eat that so not for me. The only negative for me is that the staff were boring and probably indifferent... Read more

Everything from the staff to the rooms was shabby. Changed three rooms and still not great. The management needs to spend money on this hotel. The carpets were worn and dirty. There were dirty hairs in the bathroom. There was mould on the walls where the wall paper was peeing off. The bath enamel was coming off and there were broken tiles in the bathroom. The receptionist told us that there was no tea and coffee facilities in the room as the hotel was 97 years old. The carpets, decor and curtain... Read more

Secind time we visited Castelar and the hotel needs a brush up on several points. Sockets loose and bathroom should be modernized. But cheap on the internet and worth a visit. Staff professional - and nothing more.

To be straight from the start, this isn't one of the best I visited, not even close. However, taking in consideration the dirtiness of Buenos Aires and Argentina in global, and Buenos Aires high prices, this was one of the best deals to get. The hotel is old and rustic, but it is clean, the service is excellent, staff is polite and very helping. I would recommend some renovations and better breakfast, especially on medialunas, which are poor quality. If you are looking for a fairly cheap and... Read more

For its cultural and historical value, this hotel should get five stars. It was built in 1929, and in the 1930s served as the residence of Sponish poet Federico García Lorca. Location-wise, the hotel is centrally located, and close to everything. The Obelisque, National Congress and plaza de mayo are all a walking distance from the hotel. Lima tube station is right in front of it. Having said that, the hotel is old, and does not appear to have been renovated for decades. The rooms are basic... Read more

We spent our first three nights in Buenos Aires at the Castelar, and it had everything we look for in a city hotel: cleanliness, comfortable beds, friendly and accommodating staff, and location, location, location. It's located half a block from Avenue 9 de Julio in the center of the city within walking distance of several colorful neighborhoods and subway stops. It is an older hotel, but is well-maintained and has a spa on the lower level ( which we didn't use) and a coffee shop on the main f... Read more

We didn't stay at this hotel so I cannot comment on that, but I stopped in because it used to be a local hangout for Jorge Luis Borges and Federico Garcia Lorca. The staff was very gracious and let us enter the lobby and dining area. To be able to get a glimpse of a place they used to frequent was a true privilege. While there, there was some type beauty contest going on so we were able to see some of the contestants.

Good location, close to Avenue July 9! Old and small rooms. Reasonable cleanliness. Have a nice breakfast. Regular service. No parking! Good price with advance booking. Near the Obelisk and Lima station (subway). Next to several restaurants, cafes, kiosks and attractions.

The hotel is very well located in downtown. Staff was attentive (in the front desk they changed two $500 pesos bills that no other place accepted to $100 pesos) That said, the hotel needs a refurbishment, for example the carpets on the halls are in bad shape, the bathroom door was hard to close, the view from the windows of the rooms that face the inside of the hotel is very gloom, etc. Wifi was very good and free
