We had the basic room which was large and beautiful. Decorated in French style. The staff was fantastic. Especially the lobby bar. We ate there twice. The wine great, the small plates delicious and the service the best. Could not ask for more.

Had a wonderful stay here - it really is like a beautiful old museum. Enjoyed wandering through the halls and soaking up the atmosphere. Room was spacious and beautifully decorated with delicious Hermes toiletries. Breakfast was a bit more like a high tea than breakfast but nice for a unique experience.

I have stayed at the Alvear several times now and it is a beautiful, gracious hotel with excellent service. It is for me a little staid and old-fashioned but I can't really ding its rating for that, in fairness. The restaurant on the lower level is delicious and has an excellent wine list. Their concierge is knowledgeable and very helpful in suggesting restaurants and meeting spots.

The Alvear is supposedly the grand dame amongst Buenos Aires hotels and is the top LHW hotel in town. However we couldn't help comparing it with the markedly superior Four Seasons where we stayed a few days ago. Junior suites that are an apology, cramped size with little natural light and sad views of alleys or back windows of apartments. Antiquated lighting etc and just a feel of time having bypassed them. Nice breakfast room though the breakfast itself pales in comparison to the lavish ... Read more

I stayed here with a business delegation for 1 night in June. On the psoitive side, this hotel is excellently located in the middle of the old city centre, lots of shops, restaurants and bars are close-by. The service was excellent, pressing of a suit in 30 minutes was no problem, also room service was quick. The concierge is very knowledgeble. The rooms are opulent, lots of brass and gold - you feel like 100 years back, but the ambience is still nice (if one likes this style) as the interior ... Read more

Alvear Palace is what The Ritz is to London or the Waldorf Astoria to New York. Not only represents an important portion of Argentina´s history but also has a spectacular location. Elegance and style with the best service in Buenos Aires. There might be more contemporary alternatives, but if you want the unique and local flavor, this the iconic property for a BA stay

The hotel is furnished with beautiful artwork and antiques, luxurious fabrics, the mattress is one of the best I've slept on in a hotel and they even put fresh roses in our suite which was really appreciated. At first a little intimidating as the surroundings are very opulent. As a family touring through South America we did not have the clothing that befits a hotel of this style. The dress code is smart casual. Nevertheless do not be put off as most diners at breakfast were wearing casual travel clothing. The service was impeccable and the dining areas from another era. Absolutely amazing.

This hotel is lovely in appearance! It is worth staying here for sure as it is the signature hotel of B.A. We have heard about this hotel for years but have not stayed until this trip. Our friends with us had a two bedroom suite and we had a regular room. To put this in context, on this same trip, we jumped in and out of B.A. as we were traveling for two and a half weeks.
