I have stayed at a lot of different places all over the Caribbean. To give you some perspective, when I totaled my time in the Caribbean, it came to 2 and a half years. I have stayed in Nevis, Barbados, Trinidad, Haiti, and Guyana. A common thread all over the Caribbean is running water issues, and the occasional power outages. What I will review today is what is uncommon about Halcyon Cove. By far, this has to be the most comfortable I have ever been. They have successfully made me feel like a pretty little princess. Not a prince, not a queen, not a king, but a princess. You see, a prince and a king have work to do. They fight battles, solve problems, raid villages, and demand things from their people. A queen has an endless job list, as well as assisting the king. Now the princess, her role is much more simple. Her job is to brush her pretty hair in the tallest tower and be treated hand and foot.
Let me start with the food. I love food. This is why I am starting here. Each night when I go to dinner, I am greeted by an amazing staff. They smile from ear to ear. The first time I looked over my shoulder, because I thought they were looking at someone else they‚??ve known for years. Nope, it was me. ‚??Good evening sir, how was your day?‚?? I was shown my seat, my water cup was filled, and I was offered a drink from the bar. I got up to get my plate, and started my way down the utopian cornucopia of fine foods. I took a scoop of pumpkin risotto, then some steamed vegetables, a large helping of cheese and herb polenta, and with the little room left on my plate I filled it with chicken parmigiana. I sat down and went to work. I actually think I made an audible moan, because another guest looked over at me. Everything was hot, flavorful, and filling. The dessert choices were little bite (3 bites) sized cheesecake cups, cream puffs, and a few other things. I don‚??t remember the rest, because the little cheese cakes were so good, I actually forgot where my room was for a minute on my way back.
Let‚??s talk about the entertainment for a bit. Tuesday they had karaoke, Friday they had a DJ, Saturday during the day was a local band, and Saturday night my ears were treated with an amazing steel drum band. In the lobby there is a travel agent with several activities for me to do all over the island. There is a taxi service at the hotel. Getting around and staying busy was definitely not an issue.
My room‚??s AC was great. The room was clean, tidy, and had everything a hotel room would need. I had a phone, flat screen TV, and the bed was comfortable.
I knew my time was coming to an end. I was actually getting pretty sad about it. I made some arrangements and extending my vacation to stay even longer. This created an issue, as I had only brought enough clothes for the time I was staying and I hadn‚??t seen any laundry services. I called the front desk, they sent someone to my room to pick up my laundry. Later that day, it was brought back clean, folded, and all my shirts were ironed. Problem solved.
I am writing this review currently from the resort. I could go on and on about how great it is here, but I want to go check out this kayaking they have as part of the resort‚??s accommodations. In summation, if you are looking for a great Caribbean island to visit, come to Antigua. If you are looking for a great and affordable resort, come to Halcyon Cove. When you are greeted, don‚??t look over your shoulder, it is you they are talking to, the pretty little princess.
