Just got back from this hotel. Was the most disappointing out of all the All Inclusive hotels I have been to. When we got to the hotel been told that the room will be with king size bed although we requested double. I said we do not want king size, we need 2 double beds. The lady at the reception said there are no double, there are only 2 single beds. I was not impressed, from my face she probably realised i will not be having it, so she found us a room with 2 double beds. It was actually 2 room...
Just got back from this hotel. Was the most disappointing out of all the All Inclusive hotels I have been to. When we got to the hotel been told that the room will be with king size bed although we requested double. I said we do not want king size, we need 2 double beds. The lady at the reception said there are no double, there are only 2 single beds. I was not impressed, from my face she probably realised i will not be having it, so she found us a room with 2 double beds. It was actually 2 rooms together, one had beds, other one kitchenette, sofa and TV. Sofa was broken, bath was leaking, the light in the corridor was not working. And TV was in the other room, so you could not watch it in bed. Also the water from the taps is yellow. After such a disappointment of the room, we went for the beach as from the comments I expected it to be amazing, however it was not. Full of sea weeds, water was not clear, lots of rocks as well.
Loads of mosquitos and flies so make sure you take your bug spray. I saw some people got bitten really bad. Also people coming as early as 6am to reserve sun beds, and if you come just before 9 you will hardly find any sunbeds and will just have to stay on the sand. There is lots of space near the pool, so I could not understand why they could not get more sunbeds. Food was ok, not a lot of choice, pretty much the same all the time. No vegetables in the morning or fruits during lunch, which I really missed. And also really annoying to queue just to get a fried egg. Also queuing system is ridiculous. If you go to lunch at 12:30, you have to wait in a long queue for around 20-30 mins, I did time it, just to see how long it will take. All food is placed in a circle with the grill inside it and at the very end of the queue. So the very first person who gets to the grill holds the whole queue. So everyone else has to wait. So even if you do not want anything from the grill, you have to wait, cause all the other people around are blocking all the food. Why not just make a separate queue for the grill? So other people can access all the other food without queuing?
Wifi only works in the reception, and that is if it actually works. 70% of time it was not working at all. All the cocktails at the bar I found disgusting as well. Antiguan smile was only one decent one.
We stayed for 2 weeks and I have only seen beach being cleaned and all the seaweed collected twice, all this time it was just staying on the beach and it also was quite smelly. We found the beach to be a lot nicer if you walk further down, pass the sandals hotel to Antigua Village. 100 better beaches than next to Halcyon.
Also all inclusive hotels usually have snack bars where you can get snacks at any time. This hotel did not have anything like that. There was: breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea from 4pm-5pm, which was the saddest thing ever.2 types of mini sandwiches which one was with just bread and cheese, other bread and tuna and some sort of cakes. No bottled water either, so if you want some you can buy it for 7 USD. So you better bring your own bottle and fill it up during breakfast or at the bar and take it back to your room.
Also housekeeper was so noisy, if you tried to take a nap during the day, all you could hear was her shouting across the corridor, and it was constant, really annoying. Also pool was dirty, I do not know how people were getting into it.
So all in all, was not worth it at all. For £1600, I expected a lot more, if it was half the price, then it would have been ok.
I was trying hard to find some positive things about this hotel, but I really struggled.
People have mentioned that everyone are very friendly and service is amazing, well I sure had better service, but of course there were people there who worked hard and really tried, but then you will find that in every hotel.
Also another issue with the safe, it was playing up quite a bit. It would show opened on the screen but then you got this beep and error message would occur, then we would have to put the code in like 5 times and still did not open. Then we would leave it for 30 mins, come back again, and then it would open. So if you are in a rush to go somewhere and want to take something out of the safe or put something in, it might be tricky. Cause we had this issue quite a few times. Same thing with locking it, error message would come up, and it would not lock.
So unless you get this hotel really cheap, or planning to just get drunk and ignore all the faults, I would recommend booking something else. But I sure would not be returning here. There are places where you can get better everything for half the price.
